What sound card should i get?

HI,

Im looking to get a new pc and I was wondering what was a good sound card to get, which will work well with music programs - such as cool edit and also studio packages - for future paths into production and stuff? (Im fairly new to this!)

I second the M-audio 24/96. It's decent card.

What you need to do is establish how many individual inputs and outputs you need to process through the card at the same time. The M-audio has two in/out and an SP/DIF.

I use a m-audio 24 96 card , that I rig from my mixer to my tower!!and use acid 4 for recording etc!! its good !! check out the site --m audio--

it keeps saying I don't have enough ram to record even a 1 sec long clip or load ANY wavs, yet I have 519MB of DDR free right now. What could be the problem?

Seperating Tracks on Cd

Hey was wondering if anyone knew a program that would allow you to seperate tracks on an audio file where all the music runs together, basically i have some full cds that i downloaded but they are just one continuous cd and i'd like to figure out how to split it up into tracks so that i can change tracks on my cd player. thanks

Get yourself an audio editor. Load up the track, cut a space in between the tracks. Copy and paste the individual tracks to another audio document and then save the individual tracks.

I don't know a better way...

Im having problems loading 'encore' onto my laptop - the files copy across ok but when I try to open encore I get a message which says 'Problem' but gives no details - any ideas?

No idea myself. You might want to contact the makers of Encore and ask them. Tell them what operating system you use because that will help.

MP3? Yikes. Lossy! Lossy! Lossy! SHN or FLAC for me. They may be a tad large (roughly half the size of the file in wav format.) but you don't lose any data. As for sortware, seems Geoff's got you covered. I just don't like MP3.

Well, have you plugged the mic into your soundcard? Do that first of all. Install Yahoo messenger and you will find there is an audio setup wizard built into it which will test you mic levels, bandwidth and general settings. But if you are behind a firewall, using Yahoo to do a bit of speech chat is problematical because it's hit or miss as to whether Yahoo's chat feature lets you get talking.
