WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED????!!!???

I use Sound Forge for most of my loops...I use Acid 2.0 afterwards...one day, when trying to pull up the files on Acid, I get a message that a necessary Riff header is missing. Not only that, all of the icons on my wav files were not wav icons anymore and when i clicked on "properties" the files showed a file type of "SFK" file....how do I fix this so that my wavs can play again in Acid or WMP???

u installed something?

u can open a folder window go to view/folder options + from somewhere there associate any file type with any program thus overidding any automatic associations cause by an application install.

Re: WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED????!!!???

The SFK file is a soundforge extention file to the WAV file that you are using. Its not a WAV file therefor it won't play. Look for the .WAV file it should be there.

.sfk

Does anyone know why SoundForge creates those sfk files, and more important, is there an easier way to loose em, instead of deleting manually every damn time?

Re: .sfk

found it, damn, that shit was easy (pref/file/delete temp files on close)

Ping Pong, Bounce?

Do you mean Track Bouncing when you say ping pong record??

I used to use a Tascam Porta studio when they first became popular and used to get ten tracks out of it. If you think about that mathematically, it works out. It's pretty dangerous doing that in the respect that bouncing involves mixing some of the tracks and then routing them down to a single track and then having to do it again. As you probably know, if you don't consider 'everything' before you press record (levels, compression( DBX off generally) etc etc) then you could screw up the original performance. Apart from that, the quality of the overall sound is going to get pretty ropey. Avoid it if you can...

I looked for some information on the Fostex x-77 but couldn't find much. I suspect you could bounce with it which is usually done by literally setting the tracks with material on to 'Play' and then selecting the tracks to record to, to record. The input selector on the record track might have another option than line in, like tape in or something like that.

If I find any more information, I will post it for you..

I dont know about programs that convert mp3 to midi, but i know there are wave to midi and vise versa convertors. They are freeware too. You can probably find the downloadble file here at hitsquad. So, just convert your mp3s to waves, and then convert them to midis. I could be wrong though.

Re: Converting Mp3 files into Midi

If you're looking for a program to convert an MP3 file into a true MIDI file (i.e. a MIDI file in which each instrument is on a separate MIDI track), then it's not possible. There is nothing available that can extract the notes each instrument plays from a fully-mixed track. There are programs which can cope with tracks containing single instruments, but nothing more.

CONVERTING MUSIC FROM ALBUMS TO CD's

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A WAY TO TRANSFER MUSIC FROM ALBUMS TO CD's USING A COMPUTER. I HAVE OVER 350 ALBUMS AND WOULD BE INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO DO THIS. CAN YOU PLEASE ME? THANK YOU.
JIM

Re: CONVERTING MUSIC FROM ALBUMS TO CD's

Jim,

Here's what I recommend. Try DART's CD-Recorder software.

Here's why.

You can record a wav file of your albums on to your computer harddrive using anything that records wave files from your sound card, but you will have to either record each individual song as a seperate wave file, which means that you will have to start and stop your recording software for each song, BIG PAIN - or you will have to record one side of an album as a single wave file, which means that you will have to use some other sound software to seperate each song into a seperate wav file to record (or translate into an mp-3 file) onto your CD. Also big pain. CD-Recorder will do this for you (more or less) automatically by sensing the gaps between the songs, then breaking one side of the album into seperate wav files for you. Along with that it has sound processing equipment built in to allow you to get rid of clicks and hiss.

I have recorded about 25 - 30 albums onto CD, but let me warn you it is a time consuming and somewhat laborious process even with good software. It is a labor of love. So if it is an album that is already out on CD, I recommend going to the discount used CD store and picking up the CD for 4 - 6 bucks. If it's something that is simply not available, then go with DART.

You will need to plug your tunrtable into an amplifier / reciever, then connect the tape out or tape monitor outputs to the line input jack on your audio card.

Since standard audio equipment uses what is refered to as an RCA jack and sound cards use what is referred to as mini RCA or 1/4" jacks, you will need to get an adapter cable that connects the receiver/amplifier to the sound card. You can find these cheap at radio shack.

Because the truntable uses a (sonically) weighted output, you cannot connect it directly to your sound card, you must connect it to an input that is designed to take a turntable output. Don't plug it into a CD or Tape deck input, you will get horrible sounding results.

Good luck, it you have any questions, here's my email. maxsmartin@aol.com

what comparable software is out there for a mac?

Re: CONVERTING MUSIC FROM ALBUMS TO CD's

If you have a component system, a computer and a CD burner you can:
1. Get wires that connect from your computer into the the back of your stereo reciever. This allows you to listen to music on your computer through your stereo. The people at the store will know which wires you need, and I've found that the "Video" connectors (where you'd normally use for a TV) on the back of the receiver work best
2. Connect your record player to your receiver.
3. hook up your burner to your computer.
The rest I have no idea about. In fact, I'm not even sure this will work. But, it might. I don't see why not.

TURN THE CAP LOCK OFF JIM...

IT MAKES THINGS really hard to read...

This is a common question and has been answered numerous times.

...........

Basically, you need to plug the Record player into an amplifier as the level from the record player doesn't comply with the audio input on the computer. Once the record player is plugged into the amp, a feed from a Tape REC(ord) channel on the back of the amp should be run to the input on your computer.

Any software that can record audio from the input on your computer will make a wave file that can be burnt to CD.

Steve...R

Is there a machine that plays lps to transfer to CD....

There are alot of LPs that are no longer in production/for sale. ie;ethnic, oldies etc.

Is there a device not by computer, that is available to transfer LPs to Cds with a possible way of removing noise/static. And or adding/subtracting your bass/treble etc., to your liking for the final recorded cd.

Reallly would like to know the specs on this if at all available.

Music Infomation

I need to know what kind of music software can I use on my computer to create beats, tracks and etc for my music. I want to produce and record my through my computer.

Re: Music Infomation

if possible could you please send me some infomation on drums. thank you.

Re: Music Infomation

i wont to know if you have any infomation on music from the olden days to the new school.
the infomation i am looking for is what year was the music mad in and what kinds of instrument is used.

Re: Music Infomation

: I need to know what kind of music software can I use on my computer to create beats, tracks and etc for my music. I want to produce and record my through my computer.

There are countless types of programs that you can
create beats, tracks, mix, synthesize, convert,
etc... Here's a list of the best.

- ACID Pro 3.0 (pretty good and simple for
multi-track editing - for the final mix)
- Modplug Tracker (A tracking software)
- Cool Edit Pro (Audio recording, so u can record
off of your mic)
- Reason (create music via the computer, it has
powerful synths, and has midi capabilities too)
- Percussion Studio (You can create percussion
beats and export as wave)

Oh well, I think that's enough. You can download the demo
and shareware versions of these programs from
www.hitsquad.com/smm , except for Modplug Tracker, its free.
Finally, Reason is definetly worth buying and getting!

Hope that helps,
Hish

recording streaming audio to mp3 format

Is it possible to record streaming audio as mp3 on my hard drive?

Streambox VCR

: Is it possible to record streaming audio as mp3 on my hard drive?

Streambox VCR records streaming audio & video media, mostly Real media streams.
No longer officially available, after copyright battles. Can still be found from
underground source.

Re: recording streaming audio to mp3 format

: Is it possible to record streaming audio as mp3 on my hard drive?

Total Recorder, captures streaming audio which you
can then save at pretty decent quality as wave.
All you need then is a wave to mp3 convertor/encoder
to complete the job.

Hope that helps,
Hish

The one I know is...

MacAmp which is available to Mac and Windows users. It has a record button that streams to Mp3 or Aif/Wav, (selectable). There are other programs but I don't know the names. Total Recorder springs to mind...
