you are in the perfect site! ;) It depends really on your budget.
There will always be something for you to buy if you have the money for it.
On the other hand, you COULD make music through downloading and not buying.

First you have to decide on a number of things such as: -
1) What type of music are you going to be making. (There are programs that are more
specific for some genres and so on)
2) What's your musical knowledge and skill. (There are programs that create music
for people with no background in music and some expect you to be an audio engineer,
so defining this step is important.
3) How much are you going to make (ex. Are you going to get drum loops or kits so u can
construct the loop yourself)
4) There are freeware software which you can get, but they dont usually
have the same range of features. Thus you are faced with 3 choices.
a) Buy software b) Crack software c) Use freeware only.

Here are 3 suggestions for where you can get software.

by E.Y. "Yip" Harburg who died in 1981.

This means that the copyright is still intact and
won't lapse until 2031 or 2056 depending on what
country you live in.

Until then you have to buy the lyrics as no one is

I would like to help, but if you can be more specific, it'll help.
Sonic Foundry makes a lot of sample CDs but in my opinion, they're
extremely over-priced. Getting audio samples (wave usually) from any source
should work just fine with ACID. Again, u werent specific, but
I am assuming you are taking about ACID pro 3.0. There are many sites
that offer samples, if you go to google.com and write
in 'download audio samples' or e.g. 'download bass audio samples', you can probably
find some. If you are looking for drums for example, you can find many
decent ones in mp3.com. Finally, Morpheus can provide
a HUGE directory of all types of samples. Hope that helps

I have a Sound Blaster Live! Experience sound card. I don't know how you would do it with more than one mic, but there are some things that you could get that would plug in to the card that woould allow you to do what you're asking.
You never did say how big a band you are talking about, and that would govern what kind of mics you use. Concert band, use 1 mic per section, and plug it in (I use PowerTracks 7.0 which has an on board 16 chanel mixer, capable of handling two pages of mixer chanels - 32 total).
Jazz Band, same set up, but you could use one mic per instrument, but set up differently, and not need to go to the second page on the mixer.
A combo, or Rock Band would be even easier.
Sound Blaster Stuff is available from Creative Labs.com, while the PowerTracks set is available from PGMusic.com. Sound Blaster is American Made, while PGMusic is Canadian. Both are Musician-friendly, and work WELL together.
Try them out. My guess is that you'll like the results, and you'll get back exactly what you played.
