music downloads
Can you tell me what free music download site is compatible with Windows XP?
Re: music downloads
All internet sites should be compatible with XP. Do you mean sites that have software compatible with XP?

recording album to cd
What software do I require to convert my old LP's to CD?
Re: recording album to cd
First you need to record the LP using a suitable audio recorder (Cool Edit or such like). Then you'll need something to burn the tracks onto a CD (Easy CD or Nero). Have a look in the software section for suitable stuff.

Backing up Playstation Games on Mac
I am having problems backing up my copy of several games due to copyright protection. Does anyone know where I can find patches to enable me to get around the problem. I am using a mac.
Thanks for your help.
??
This isn't really the place for that. It's a music forum. I'm not suggesting you are doing anything illegal as it is legal to make one copy as far as I know. I will say though that I have a playstation and have never damaged a disc, I am quite kack handed too ;0-
The simple answer, since i've started, is there is no copy protection as far as copying the disk is concerned (as far as I know). The copy protection comes into play when you put the CD into the playstation as the playstation game disks are black backed and CD's generally aren't. Back it up if you like but you will never be able to use it unless it's a PS recognised black backed CD...

how can i record vocal onto music with Reason?? i need to sing w
thanks..
Re: how can i record vocal onto music with Reason?? i need to si
: thanks..
Mary, as far as I understood from using Reason for awhile now, and I feel like
I pretty much figured out most of reason, you cant record audio using reason.
Reason does a bunch of things. U can export as audio a loop or
the full song in reason from the Drex, Redrum, Subtractor, the sampler, etc...
but you cant record from your mic or so, at least I dont think so.
However there is a solution to ur problem, which is to get another audio recorder software.
There are some freeware so it shouldnt be a big problem. I suggest
either cool edit 2000, pro, or SoundforgeXP, and what you do is play the song in
reason, and record in the audio recording software at the same time.
Then the vocal track will be on beat. You'll probably need a multi-track software to mix in all
the tracks from the vocals and the reason tracks. If your objective is to get the vocal track in reason
so u can play with the sound attributes, then I dont think that's
possible unless you are able to save the file as
.smp or u load it up in redrum or something or u r using midi, then maybe.
Hope that helps.
Re: how can i record vocal onto music with Reason?? i need to si
if you you want to put recorded vocal to reason - then try to do it with recycle. (save waves as recycle files and load them to DrRex)
it is quite easy then to ajust vocal samples in the song
Re: how can i record vocal onto music with Reason?? i need to si
Id say the best way would be to record into another program, then import the .wav into Recycle (a must if you have Reason), save as a .rex2 file, and open in Reason's DREX. Then you have the vocals on slices too so you can play one word, one phrase, etc. Hope this helps, Im just getting started with this method myself.
: : thanks..

Doesn't Reason....
..... work as a plug in as well?
This IS the simplest solution then. Plug it into a program like Cubase VST or Logic Audio and you have a full sync'd up studio.
Steve...R
sing while the music play..
yes u can also export your reason track to cool edit then sing alongside it there. It will be on the beat, u can then import vocal take as a redrum sample and it should be in time - atleast that's the theory. btw u can also chop up you vocal and import the 10 or so vocal lines to the redrum to trigger individually. you can the do interesting repeats of vocal lines/single words.
Wav to mp3 freeware?
Where can I find converters for a PC for converting wav files on my computer to mp3's. Anyone know of such an animal? Thanks
Re: Wav to mp3 freeware?
There are loads of "animals" that will do the job. CDex works well and, best of all, is completely and utterly free..

Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
And Why do u think so??
Re: Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
I think cubase is the most powerful. Also when using cubase with reason it has loads of all the synths from reason and the editing of cubase. I like cubase because you can do audio and midi, and it is like a multitrack. However i did start out on fruity loops, i had loads of fun with it. Fruity loops is easy to learn on. Reason is somewhat harder, and cubase without someone teaching you how to run it is mind bogging.
Cubase or Logic for mac OSX ?wich one is the best?!?!
I really can't understand wich one is gonna be better, as right now , with a jaguar system installed, i cannot use neither of them?
Pleae help me!
Thanx

Re: Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
Personally, I think Fruity is the best, but a mix down is required such as Acid, to get the best fidelity using "other" EQ plugins.
Reason is a fantastic program also but beyond a poor musicians budget, including my own.
Using fruity with a knob box like "Sweet Sixteen" (plug plug!!) that has a midi note to control converter from a cheapo consumer keyboard is amazing with Fruity, and running plugins like the orange vocoder or simsynth makes one forget that this is a software synth!
Steve is right in saying you can get results right away with Fruity without studying the users manual for 3 days.
Over all, the more the merrier as far as software goes, but if I were only granted one wish, Fruity would be it!

You guys're all lame... Can no one give a straight answer without sounding all glib or superior an' stuff?
I like Fruity the best, because it's comparatively easier to catch on to an' start doing some dynamic stuff with... For simply making beats an' putting them together, you will have loads of fun with Fruity... If you SERIOUSLY want to do music, you're gonna have to spend more money sooner or later, but if you'd rather spend more money later, an' jus' get something to play with an' kind'a get a feel for what you wanna do, for now, then Fruity's a good choice, because it's the least expensive and the easiest to start making music with. I actually like it quite a bit... Low budget, yet fairly powerfull. I did the demo when it was v2.4, an' was hooked... I actually BOUGHT IT, though I could have tracked down a cracked or pirated version... An' whenever the newer versions come out, they're always free for registered users to download... I did the demos of the others too, but I was like, "How the hell does this work," an', "Damn, this isn't anywhere NEAR as easy to get results with as Fruity"... But then, I'm a rank amateur... I also use Acid Pro alot, in conjunction with FruityLoops, which overall I like better than FruityTracks... You're also gonna want a good wave editor, like
SoundForge. But really, you should just download the demos; they all have downloadable demo versions... Spend a couple hours with each, an' then choose the one you like the best... Like boys :P

Re: Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
I believe my friend that using reason rewired with cubase (that means that u can use the electronic sounds and plugins fruity has)is the best combination
.....Here's a straight answer to that "Alias"
If anyone sounds serious and superior, it would be the people that are trying hard to offer balanced and factual advice. Each to their own then...

Re: Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
Cubase is the best one for ME. Why? It's the one I started out on. The learning curve for all these programs are steep. So why would I change to another one? The best thing that any consumer can do is RESEARCH all avable software and pick which one is best for YOU!!!!
Re: Which one is the best? Reason, Cubase, Logic, Fruity???
For me Cubase is the best.
Use and she/he will see
Congratulations Steinberg for their products
Ok guys.. my choice is Reason.. :) Let's celebrate.. .Cheers
I also tried cubase and logic.. they have bad graphics and only make midis.. Yeah.. Ok i am an amateur.. :)
More on Logic and Cubase...
Logic and Cubase certainly do NOT ONLY do midi. Other than the earliest of versions of Cubase, they both handle audio as well as they handle midi...
Reason is a good choice though but make sure you read up on the others properly before you purchase...

Steve...R
I'll try that again... They are all very different
Reason is a series of softsynths and samplers in a recorder based package.
Cubase and Logic attempt to emulate a multitrack studio.
And fruityloops is somewhere on it's own in the loop and synth construction world...
You can't seriously expect people to advise on how you personally would spend between £200 and £600 on software without telling us your background, the type of music you are playing, the type of equipment and computer you already have...
Loads more information,,
Steve...R
Carla, they are all different.

What is the best coffee or tea?
answer is they are both rather bad for you but you may partake regardless.
:) Sorry Nigel.. U r right..
To make a good song with its vocals, drums, everything... I want to get one of them but which one?
Re: :) Sorry Nigel.. U r right..
Again, you aren't pointing out helpful stuff such as whether you can already play an instrument or not. FruityLoops is a good place to start. It's very powerful but simple to start using.

Recording vocals..
I am using Propellerhead Reason. How can I record vocal while the song play.. Thanks..
Thanks Hish.. I got it..
thanks..
Re: Recording vocals..
: I am using Propellerhead Reason. How can I record vocal while the song play.. Thanks..
I have Propellerhead Reason too, but I dont think u r able to record vocals VIA reason as audio. However,
what you can do is use cool edit or such audio recording software along with reason.
Have reason play whatever you have in the background, and record using cool edit 2000 or pro
for example, it'll allow it, and u'll sure enough record an on-beat
vocal track.
Hope that helps,
Hish
music software
I was wondering if there is a music software that allows you to insert a disk or song (such as creed/sacrafice) and have the guitar chords come up for that song? I am doubting it because of copyright issues but it would save me so much time and money instead of guitar lessons.
I appreciate all replies:)
Re: music software
There isn't anything that can do this. It's a very complex task to do. But there is sheet music you can get.
