Re: just burn problem

If your trying to download songs from the internet try using WinMx. You can download it free off the net at www.WinMx.com. It doesnt dicriminate against bit size, modem, file type etc.. But I dont use Kazza, so I dont know how it works.

converting audio tapes, cd's to karoake

Hi. I am a 1940-50's person and am wondering if there is a program or software out there that will convert The Platter's and John Denver tapes or cd's to karaoke, with the ability to diminish the lead singer and alter the pitch (especially on the Platter's songs). Thanks for your response. Alan

splitting music tracks to hear only one voice level

Greetings:
I love to sing and am a member in the choir as well as a gospel quartet. I lost much of my hearing in the Vietnam war so whenever a track or recording is given to me to learn, it is hard to pick out just the "alto" or "lead" portion I am to do. I have heard there is software (maybe even shareware) out there I could use to make my listening task easier. If anyone knows how I cam accomplish this, please contact me. My work e-mail address (Monday through Friday) is Tom.Barnhill@ccci.org and my work phone number is 407-854-1341, just ask for Pastor Tom.
Respectfully,

How To Burn A CD!

I downloaded Nero to start trying to burn some cd's off the internet, but I don't know what to do next. I bought a whole bunch of CDR's, but I don't know if I need to format them before I start to burn the CD's, or even what my next step should be from there. I would also like to know if there is an easier free software than Nero, since this is my first time. Please respond as quickly as possible. Thank You.

Re: How To Burn A CD!

hi,
Burning a cd is very simple. NIT CD Maker 2000 plus is the software you need. This is a very simple software. You can burn from HDD to CD, Audio CD,Data CD, VCD.

virus alert

Be careful ppl, I almost downloaded a virus from this site! BEWARE!

Please post a more useful comment like what program you
downloaded that contained the virus, what the virus is
called, and how you detected it, otherwise it simply
looks like your message is a hoax.

Message to everyone - use virus checking software with
ALL downloads, even from sources you trust. I do.

Protect yourself with a decoy system... (TIPS HERE)

It's also good to test - run your programs in a safe partition or on a dummy system. For example, on a PC, you can use the freeware programs InControl and TestRUN to both monitor and deflect most changes to your system after installations or running new programs.

On a Mac, there are similar programs, and many backup utilities will help you discover which files have changed and allow you to replace them with fresh safe copies. One freeware program called Verifier (i think) lets you generate a checksum (kinda like a password) for any file you choose. After that, any changes whatsoever to that file will immediate show up when you run Verifier again to compute the checksum numeric code.

For those Mac users who need an expedient way to test programs here's another way....

use freeware SystemPicker to change your active system folder to any other available system folder on any available drive. This is perfect for fooling those programs that install extensions and control panels and the like without your permission.

You can even create a dummy system folder just for this purpose. Using freeware, DropAttribute, or any other Typer utility, set the type/creator codes of a blank file to match the Finder, and put it into a new folder.
Rename the file Finder, and rename the folder System Folder. Need a blank file? Delete your Clipboard file in your system folder and restart. A blank one will show up. Move it out of the system folder and rename it. OK. A system folder needs a system file, so create a blank System file in the same way, this time setting the type/creator codes to that of the real System file. Once these two dummy files are in your new System Folder, all you have to do is create the corresponding subfolders in it to get it to fool your new programs. The main subfolders to create are Extensions, Control Panels, Preferences, and Apple Menu Items. Just to be sure, you should create all of the other subfolders that you notice in your real system folder.

OK after all that is done, you should be able to run SystemPicker (freeware) to set the active system folder to this new fake one. You do not need to restart. To avoid restarting, hold down the optionkey while SystemPicker is running. You will see "restart" change to "OK".

Now, when you run a new installer or program while this configuration is active, files will be added to the fake system folder and not to your real one. This process is even more enhanced if you put this fake system folder on another drive, or on another partition. Partitioning is my favorite technique.

By the way, you could always create a REAL system folder on another partition and use SystemPicker to switch to and from it. I often do this on my system so that I can run Norton Utilities on MacOS 7.5.3 to fix my MacOS 8.1 hard drive---all without needing the CD-ROM.

Well I hope somebody somewhere found this useful

where can i find logic vs for free

[The body of this post has been lost]

Download Logic

I don't know where you can find that, but "Logic Fun" can be downloaded from the German part of the emagic website. Don't worry, the program is multi-lingual, and defaults to English. Logic Fun doesn't have as many features, but it works very well and does the main things.

Mixman Studio

Is there a version of mix man studio that is compatible with Win XP Pro

Re: Mixman Studio

I just got one of these products, I'm also looking for an XP or 2k patch, but more fervently: is there any other software people have heard of to use this machine without the mixman software? Like a linux hack or a winamp style control, maybe something that lets you map out the funtions of each button? It would be cool if that was the case - I wanna use it for native mp3s to incorporate into a DJ set, and I don't like the mixman studio. Peace- B

I have put up a new Samplitude Forum

I think Samplitude needed a forum of its own as opposed to always be a fraction of a multi software forum, so I have put up a forum at www.kuhrt.dk/samplitude

I hope the forum will evolve into being just as much a discussion group as a plain problem solving tool.

Re: I have put up a new Samplitude Forum

The page, you link to could use an update :)

It refers to Samplitude 5.3 released in 1999. We are now close to 6.5, and SEK'D is no longer assosiated with Samplitude.

convert .asx to .mp3

Hi guys! I'd like to know how can convert asx format in mp3. Are there many software?
Thanks!!!

Re: convert .asx to .mp3

: Hi guys! I'd like to know how can convert asx format in mp3 / wave. and with software i can do that.

: Thanks!!!

I Know How!!!

YOU DON'T NEED A DECODER, RETARD.

These are the steps to convert .asx to .mp3

1. Go to the folder in which your nasty .asx files are contained. Click on on the "Tools" tab on the toolbar at the top of the screen.

2. On the Tools menu, click on the "Folder Options..." tab.

3. On the "folder options" tab, click the "View" tab. On the list will be a list of options with check-boxes to the left of them.

4. Scroll down to the "Hide extensions for known file types" and uncheck the box next to it, then click Ok.

5. Your song file will now have the name as well as the file extension showing on it, such as "Britney Spears - One More Time.asx"

6. Right Click on the song and click "rename".

7. Delete the ".asx" portion of the song and instead type in ".mp3", so your song will end up saying "Britney Spears - One More Time.mp3" and you will have a mp3 song.

Whalla :)

You don't how to do it

This is not the way!!!

I still can't convert the file into a wave because the convert software doesn't requnist it.

Re: MC50/MC500 Midi File converter & Sys Disks 4 U

: : I have many files which were generated using my mc50 sequencer over the past few years. i now use my computer as a player and editing tool. I can change the files using the mc50 one at a time but as there are over 300 files this would take a VERY long time. Is there ANY converter from the .sng file to standard MIDI file available?
I would be VERY gratefull if anyone could point me in the right direction

cubase problems....

i have recently inherited a computer equipped with Cubase VST and have been learning slowly to use the software.... however i have two problems which no one seems to be able to answer:

1) how do you record two different tracks (eg. guitar and vocals) simultaneously? i can record in stereo but not as two separate tracks with mixability etc.
2) the click track is horribly out of time! i have messed around with metronome controls loads but the timing is always slightly off.

if anyone could offer me solutions to these problems i would be forever grateful.
cheers

recording quality

I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 on an HP Pavilion 501n. I'm using the onboard sound card microphone input to plug my guitar and keyboard into. After finnishing a small project, I find that the volume isn't as loud as everything else audio on my computer. If I try turning up the mic/in volume when recording, it looses sound quality and gets all fuzzy sounding. Is there any other sound card I should look into for recording? Anything not too expensive? Or maybe just adjusting something with the one I have. Any help would be great.

Re: recording quality

The microphone input is for just that - a microphone - nothing else. What you should do is amplify your guitar and feed the output from the amp into the LINE IN on the soundcard. You should be able to connect the headphone socket of the keyboard into the LINE IN, or feed it through an amplifier first. Just make sure you keep the level low enough that ou don't begin to distort.

Re: Midi-keyboard on Windows XP

Have u tried going to ADD NEW HARDWARE in the control panel?

Re: Midi-keyboard on Windows XP

Look on the site of the manufacturer of your soundcard!
Are the right drivers being installed and/or configured?

recording cassettes

Hi, I would like to save the music on my few remaining tapes, by recording them onto my hard-drive. With so many programs to choose from it's hard to know which one to go for - can anyone suggest which is best. I'm looking for good quality sound obviously, but don't want to download too large a file. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, Phil.

Forum email replies on by default...

I just did a check to see how much usage there is of
the feature to receive an email notifying you of a
reply to your message in this forum.

The result is that 50% of messages starting a thread
are using this optional feature by ticking the box just
above the "Post Message" button.

So, is 50% good enough or do you think we should turn
this feature on by default so that you have to tick the
box if you don't want notifications via email?

Jason.

Take charge of your destiny: Click your own damned box!

Aw, c'mon Jay... do you really have to ask that ?
I was hoping you'd set the record straight with the final decision. Personally, i think the "default on"mailing would just bog down your servers with additional requests and form processing. I think "default OFF" serves another useful purpose too:

It potentially keeps the lazy dumb people from interacting with us too much!!!

On your first point, I agree - there appears to be no
need for default notifications.

But I disagree with your second point. As an unwashed
simpleton myself, it won't stop me from posting :)

Jason.

Re: Take charge of your destiny: Click your own damned box!

50% ain't bad. I think the consideration of Default ON was for the benefit of the few that don't press it when they would be better off pressing it. That was all.

If anyone knows what the button does (it's pretty obvious) then then can turn it OFF if they want to. If you don't know what it is, I suspect you will benefit from it on.

It seemed like a small point when i posted the suggestion and to some extent it still is. I can live with it either way but I think it makes sense to consider it a general benefit to those who need decisions made for them.

Whatever way.. If you have a way of working out how many people click it by percentage jason, then maybe a month trial with it on will show how many people turn it off rather than turn it on.. More trouble than it's worth? you decide.

regards

Rimmer
