Yes it can cause a lot of trouble which is why I wanted
to see strong pro-active support before risking it. The
problem is that if people don't know they've selected
the email notification and then they get one they cause
all sorts of problems by reporting us to various SPAM
sites - we always get removed from these list but it's
best not to be there in the first place.

I still like the basic idea though.

I was hoping you would pre-empt my solution from my
last comment...

Basically as we half of the people selecting the
automatic notification and the other half ignoring it,
to resolve this issue once and for all in the true
spirit of bureaucracy we should place pre-selected
buttons incapable of being switched off on 50% of the
pages and remove them from the rest.

I am not arguing a point at all. I just presented an idea in the form of a vote. I thought the final word would be made by the website and seeing Jason responded favourably to the suggestion I thought it was worth persuing.

I have said before, I am happy either way and am in no way trying to shoehorn this one home.

I like your presence here. I have but a handful of people that I respect here and you are one of them. I wouldn't want you to get cheesed off with me over this. I would rather let the whole thing lie if we were going to fall out.

All in all, it's up to the web designer to decide these things, and the webdesigner is the expert in such matters.

Firstly, my apologies to all the people who I haven't
replied to in this forum over the last week - I've been
very busy working on solutions to our server problems.

I am now happy to announce that the problems are now
fixed and you shouldn't see those annoying "Internal
Server Error" messages anymore, also this site is now
running faster.

What happened was that a recent increase in traffic to
this site exposed a technical problem with our software
that we were previously unaware of.

After much work we have corrected the problem, and we
have also placed additional servers on order.

I'll be back to responding to messages soon in this
forum.

Hi.

I'm looking for a program which I can use for sound effects and background music in improvisational theater.

I want to be able to set it up to play different sound effects by pressing different keys.

But I also want it to be able to do background loops or "random" effects like insects or bird sounds in a forest.

Ideally I'd like it to be able to set up a script of some sort to be able to change the volume and balance of the sound effects to give the impression of different distances and directions of sounds.

Anyone got any ideas of a free progrm which I could use?

Hi, There are programs called "trackers" which can do all sorts of wonderful things, and many of them are free. The one I suggest you try is jeskola buzz. As for software programs, the cost of buying logic, or cubase *and* a sampler is kind of...steep.
There is a porgram called Orion which has a built in sampler,a few synths, and a sequencer. Also, there is fruityloops. These may be all you need. But, if you want *free* check out buzz.

The playing of different sounds from a keyboard is going to require a sampler which allows you to map your own sounds to different keyboards. These sounds could be anything you have recorded. Samplers allow you to spec whether pressing and holding a key on the keyboard or pressing and letting go of the key will stop of allow the sample to play to the end.

Samplers like the ESX24 can plug through a multitrack program like Cubase or Logic (etc.. etc..). Any software multitrack audio environment that complies with the plug in architecture of the sampler could bring in the sampler for use within the program. This would mean that you could also have prerecorded samples played whenever you wanted through a song arrangement of those samples.

I doubt you will find your solution for free though... ;/

What do u want ot seperate the vocals or the instuments? Sound forge is a good program for removing vocals from a song. No program can remove all vocals in every song 100%. Some songs its easier to remove than others. Sound forge 6.0 can break a song down into just samples!! Also try AnalogX its ok!

Quite a whle ago I came across file which I think was on this site which was instructions on how to turn an SW60XG card into a standalone module-I can't find it now-ha anyone else got it or do they know where I can get it ?
Does anyone know where I can get a Yamaha XG Soundfont bank ?
I've just upgraded my PC and couldn't fnd one with an ISA slot. I can't bear to do without my XG card but don't fancy spending a fortune on a new one !!

kaaza duplicate download problem

I'm having troubles with Kaaza. I download mp3's and it goes to my shared folder. However, now there seems to be a copy made everytime I download an mp3 that is sent to my documents folder. The mp3 files in my documents are significantly larger, like 5 mb compared to 50 in shared folder. No where did I indicate that I wanted files going to my documents in user options. Also my virus engine doesn't detect any problems. Can anyone please help???

Simple answer: Get rid of Kazaa and see if the problem still occurs. Make sure you are aware of the security issues on Kazaa such as worm virii. Update your anti-virus software as soon as possible.

How to record a mix with Cubase

I'm new to Cubase, so this should be an easy question. I have my decks and mixer going into my soundcard and they plan thru the system fine. Now I want to record a mix. How do I go about it? How do I route my mixer into Cubase and record an audio file?

In the windows mixer make sure you have "line in" selected as the record device, and the level is not all the way down. Then hit record in Cubase and play.

I take it you mean that you want to transfer all your CDs onto your hard disk in MP3 format? If so, Nero won't do much good. Go to www.cdex.n3.net and download a copy of CDex. It's free, and will automatically copy the tracks from a CD and convert them to MP3.
