Just one further comment - if someone buys your collection, then your CD copies will be illegal - you can only retain a copy of an LP/CD if you still own the original.

: to start, what i want to do is'nt illegal these are my records. i've been to computer shops all over the central coast asking how to put my records on cd.they either don't know or never get back to me.i have a buyer who's showing interest in purchasing the lot.i have a computer,windows 2000,cd burner,also a technics hifi rack system 125 watt amp with turntable,tape to tape cassette,cd/dvd player.my question is... where do i go form here?i'm 53 so please if you can help don't bombard me with techno speak i'm not very computer literate i'd really like a hand with this. thank-you paul johnson.

: If you have a sampler, or a sound module, all you will really need is a basic keyboard called a MIDI Controller. This kind of keyboard doesn't have any sounds in it, all it does is play the sounds in other pieces of equipment. For example, if you have a sampler and you have a few samples loaded into its <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=memory&v=55">memory</a>, you can just hook up your MIDI Controller to the sampler and assign the samples in your sampler to various keys on your keyboard (usually they are assigned automatically across all of the keys). Then you use the keyboard to play the sounds from the sampler, and you record the performance into your recorder (computer, 4-track, etc). You can also use a keyboard that comes with sounds, it will be able to do the same thing as a MIDI Controller. Just as long as your keyboard has a MIDI Out port, then you'll be okay.
