Audiophile 2496 Sound Card and Sonar3
My Audiophile 2496 sound card works fine with the DVD player in my computer and output from Windows, but when I run Sonar3 (or even Cakewalk 7.0), I don't get output from Sonar3 unless I select the Microsoft software sequencer as the MIDI output device. Using the Microsoft software synthesizer is completely unacceptable. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I was using audioGnome perfectly well with Windows XP. My hard collapsed (for unknown reasons), now replaced. I've lost my great music collection. Now I can't download audioGnome at all.

Re: audiognome for windows XP
I'm having problems w/AG these days myself. I never did before, but I needed to re-format recently & when I re-installed AG,I found that it could'nt find any servers. I then disabled the built in XP firewall, but that didn't really help either. Now it finds only napster servers & it still won't connect. Plus,no PNN servers are available either. If anyone has any ideas, please respond. I miss AG!

Andrea..I run audignome fine on my XP machine..not knowing what problem you are having, I can't help but you might try going to http://audiognome.co.uk/ or the aG forum http://www.videomasterz.com/ag/ and posting a question there.

Reverb
Hi,
I record rock music by myself using my little home studio with PC/mixer/multi-fx/ect. I'm used to leave every track (guitars, drums, bass, vocals, ect...) dry, without any reverb and put this one at the end during the mixing.
However I don't know if it's better use the same Reverb preset for all the tracks and set each one simply adjusting every wet/dry knob (or the send knob), or use different Reverb presets for each tracks (for example drums with a "drum room" preset with different settings from "vocal cabin" to use for the voice, and different from "guitar box" to use for the guitars, ect...).
I suppose that every musician knows what I mean.
Every opinion or suggestion will be great!
Thanks,
Sam
Re: Reverb
I think you should do it either way depending of which one fits the song.
A dry mix with an Aux send to an Fx unit is fine although always make sure that the effects unit is set on 100% WET or you might (will) experience some phase cancellation.
I am a big fan of using synth patches with their effects (if they sound good) as it gives different layers to the final sound. Choose the wrong ones and you'll hear the mess it makes.
Considerations like this are best made with the ear in my opinion..

I found that its better to use different reverb for each instrument because you want some tones or sounds more dominant than others and I like to hear distinctions for each intrument.

USB audio driver w/ line in _ out mixer
We have been looking for an USB driver (software mixer) with stereo line input and line output chanels for full duplex mode.
ISSUE: active playback of timeline while recording and audio monitoring of the timeline and the incomming voiceover at the same time.
Problem is that no standard windows USB driver supports this mode.
But only example. the standard ESS software mixer does.
where do we get an USB audio driver with "LINE IN" on the recording mixer and "LINE OUT" on the playback mixer(speaker)?

playing wav & mp3 files on an ordinary audio cd player
I have burned internet radio 'talk programmes' onto a cd-r in both wav & mp3 formats, but wont play on my ordinary audio cd player. Can you tell me why?
Re: playing wav & mp3 files on an ordinary audio cd player
In order to play on CD players the files need to be converted to .cda format.
Most burning programs (Nero, Adaptec, Roxio, etc.) will convert .wav files automatically when instructed to burn a MUSIC (as opposed to DATA) CD.
You may need to convert mp3s to wavs first (although some burners will now do that too).

dealing with distributers
Whats goin on folks
i'm a DJ and i'm thinking
about opening a record store.
I plan on being a store that DJs will come to but we will primarily
be catering to a general market. We are gonna hustle used/new
DVDs, Cds, and video games along with new and used vinyl and DJ gear.
I have a whole bunch of questions in regards to dealing with distributers.
My questions are not general business questions.
If you have experience in supply managment in the retail music industry
please shoot me an email. I don't have cash or anything to pay for info
but i can kick down some wax for good leads.
Peace
Starting out. What do I need?
Howdy,
Ever since I bought Music 2000 for my PS1 about 4 years ago I've wanted to take the next step and get some proper production hardware/software, but don't know where to start. It's mainly just dance music I'm interested in making. Can I run a basic package on a cheap PC or will I need to shell out heaps of cash for a decent computer? Can anyone recomened a good program to get me started? Really don't know my arse from my elbow when it comes to this sort of thing so any advice is very welcome.
Thanks,
Gareth.
some recomendations...
Staying strictly in the realm of software, these are some great programs:
-Fruity Loops (a sequencer and sampler)
-Reason (more expensive, but does EVERYTHING you could imagine)
-Acid 4.0 (a great sampler and sequencer)
None of these programs are beyond 500 bucks and have everything you need to make music. ALSO, if you're in to downloading you can get all of these programs throught Kazaa and Bit Torrent
What do I need?
Ok. I am trying to get into electronic music, where I can perform alone myself, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. If anyone could suggest software or anything for me I'd be eternally grateful. Here's what I have, and what I need:
I will be using an ibook. And I will be performing live. I need a sequencer that will play the backing track for my songs, and I can play a lead on say my synthesizer or guitar. But I want to be able to set tempo in realtime at a performance by tapping tempo on a midi device. I also want the sequencer to control patch changes in my synthesizer. For example, the synth sound will change when it switches to the chorus of the song. I need another midi device that will allow me to trigger samples on command, and these samples will change to different samples as needed in different parts of the song. I want to have an amount of randomness or improvisation, so if I feel like dancing with my audience or something I can, and the song won't progress to the next part until I trigger it to with say, a footpedal. Last, I will have one of those loopstation guitar pedals that will need to be connected with midi so I can loop my guitar live perfectly in time with everything else.
As far as I can tell, ACID on PC does all of these. But I need a mac program. I don't have a lot to spend, so if I could get a cheap program or even freeware that'd be great, but I'm willing to pay a decent amount if needed. I know this is pretty basic stuff, but I'm just trying to figure this stuff out, so if anyone has any suggestions for software, I am very thankful.
