New audio demo for Vocomber!

Here's a new audio demo of 2 Vocomber VSTi units playing:

Still monophonic, polyphony will soon be implemented. A touch of delay was added on the audio demo (regular 50% feedback delay, same one on both).

Okay so I've bought a mac and need to buy a mic, but what the hell is all this other stuff - MIDI, preamp, soundcards etc.? Can I plug in directly to my mac or do I need all this extra equipment and why? What does it do?

What do you need a mic for? what are you recording? why?

More information...

You need a mic preamp for a mic before the Mac unless you are happy with incompatible interfacing with poor sound quality.

A decent audio interface is also recommended..

This problem has to do with windows XP not supporting the ATAPI methods used by AudioCatalyst. So far, I have found no workaround. My PCs have XP's Service Pack 1 installed, and now the program will at least run. However, you can only encode audio in "analog" mode, (i.e. it plays the CD through your sound card and records the sound using the wave recorder).

Like I said, no workaround for this problem. Stop ripping CDs, I guess. I doubt this weakness in XP is an accident.

I sugest to use AudioGrabber. It is amost like AudioCatalyst, everything is the same only skin. You only need to download "lame_enc.dll" and put it into directory where AG is installed. This is to get 128kbps and more. Good luck :)

I tried to check the box asci, but it will not let me check it, it seems stuck on analog... what do I do?

Yes, Audio Catalyst does work with Windows XP, and
rather well. What is happening is Audio Catalyst is
looking for your the default way it is going to use to
grab music from CDs. The most common way is to use
ASPI drivers. Go into the options in Audio Catalyst
and tell it to use ASPI. I believe its just a little
box that you check. Also there is a driver file
called "WINASPI.dll" it must be in your C:\Windows
directory. the file "WINASPI32.dll" must go in your
C:\Windows\system32 folder. Chances are, Windows
already has them there.
If Audio Catalyst still doent work, COPY the file
"WINASPI.dll" and "WINASPI32" to your AudioCatalyst
directory. To make a long story short... Just check
the box that says "ASPI" in your Audio Catalyst
options. That should do the trick.

If you go to http://www.tburke.net/info/misc/aspi.htm and download ASPI 4.60 (aspi32.exe) you should be able to use audiocatalyst 2.1 with XP. Don't bother with the later version of ASPI (4.70 + ), it wouldn't work for me anyways. Good Luck.

i also get this problem, at first i thought it was to do with new copyrighted cds, but got the feeling it hasn't.

I have a Ph.D. in educational research and I wish to conduct a project which essentially depends translating the partials (fundamentals and overtones) of musical instruments’ voices (timbres) into visual form. I am very new to computer technology of any type, however, and I am no idea where to begin to look for the software I need.

External recording with a Casio WK-1630 keyboard

I've been having some trouble lately with OrionPro..
For some reason, it unexpectedly quits when I try to open files I just saved.. All of my VSTi are in perfect condition (tried to uninstall then install everything), the samples are still present on my disk and so on.. Older files are no problem.

And when I save a project, the track names in the playlist suddenly vanish, or I can't hear nothing when I hit SpaceBar..

AnyOne know why? PLEASE help me, I have a really good dub/break beats project going, and I just can't sleep at night when I can't make music!!

im wondering if this program has the ability to split a long audio file into 2 tracks or more..so when i put it in a cd player it will sound like one big track without any cuts inbetween tracks but if i wanted to skip to a next track i could do it.

I need to transcribe and a large number of audio tapes that include nothing but talking. The quality of the sound is so poor sometimes, I want to pull my hair out! Oonce the audio files are transferred to the harddrive, is there a software solution that could help?

Rebirth like software

Ive been using Rebirth for a few years now and i ok with it. I was wondering if there any software out there like rebirth? Not as advanced as Reason, but a little more complex than rebirth, something you can use in real time too.

I used ReBirth some years ago, and was very comfortable with it. But sooner or later you'll want more possibilities..

In my case, I went from ReBirth to different sequencers, like Reason, CakeWalk, Cubase and OrionPro..

They usually have pretty good drum sequencers built-in, and you can always download VST instrument plugins that will suit you.

That's what I recommend, as you'll be able to add effects, and when you understand more, you'll see how simple (but still very good) ReBirth was.. =)
