How can I remove vocals from songs and then rerecord the Vocal T
How can i remove vocals from songs using Cool Edit Pro 2.0? Would really appreciate someone helping me out here!
Re: how can i remove vocals from songs . and rerecord the vocal
: : : how can i remove vocals from songs that i have ripped from cds with acid pro 3? is there any shareware available to do this?
: : Ok my question is simular but I would like to take a vocal track and resave it to be used for a techno or trance mix is this possiable and how,
: : since I have heard some techo/trance that this was done
:
: Yes! The process is involved.
: In your wave editor, take the stereo song (it HAS to be a stereo song with the vocal DEAD CENTER - nothing else works right!), highlight the left track, and invert it (reverse the phase). Mix the resulting file down to MONO - this step removes the vocals from the track. Now, take that original file and select the right track. Paste over the contents of that track with your new MONO-vocals-removed track. Reverse that phase on that. Mix to MONO again.
: If everything was done correctly, you should have a vocals only track, since that's the only information that wasn't dead-center on your stereo track.
: If you want to do vocal removal via a plug-in, check out Analog X's Vocal Remover. It's free.

OK, I'm way new at this...my husband just downloaded Winamp & AnalogX and we tried it out on a couple cd's (both from the actual cd and from things burned to our computer). Now if I want to make a copy of the song with vocals removed how do I do that? My 9 year old needs it for an audition next week.
Thanks

Sorry, but this is commonly made mistake: cancelling the vocal is possible, leaving only the vocal is NOT!
It simply can't be done (yet)!

The only tool I know of is Pandora RT by Prosoniq. Works pretty well (not perfect but usable) with mono and stereo music. It's a plug in included with their sonicWORX Studio software.

Did anyone get this to work??
I tried it on a WAV rip from a CD (not a mp3-not that stupid) and the vocal is dead center because I can remove it and just have a vocals removed track but can't keep the vocals. Can you elaborate more for us John? Or can someone else tell me how they did it to keep the vocals only?
Please email me at fan1alanis219@aol.com with any info, thanks!!

Sorry this reasoning is wrong; it doesn't work!!
It's not (yet) possible to obtain a vocals-only track

dj mix tracking
I need to insert tracking into continuous DJ mixes. Any suggestions of simple programs for PC? I've used sound editing programs to cut and paste into new files and then piece them together to burn on CD later but that seems like the long way around. Thanks for any help...

Max, try Nero CD Burner, or CD Architect 5 by Sonic Foundry. These will do the job. I personally use both of them. The diffrence is that CD Architect 5 lets you master the mix, by using compression, limiters, and noise gates.
Re: dj mix tracking
Use a program called Vegas Video (from Sonic Foundry) It lets you insert track index positions where ever you want, and also burns onto cd. Its the only one I've found thats good for this type of thing.
Re: dj mix tracking
Check out Ableton Live ...
It lets you load samples while playing live
Looking for the best condencer mic for acoustic guitar, cheep.
Is it posible to get a cheep, really decent sounding condencer mic for acoustic guitars (a nylon string and a steel string) without spending more than a few hundred dollars?
Re: Looking for the best condencer mic for acoustic guitar, chee
Other than the Marshall. You could check out a used AKG451 (they are quite expensive new. Overall, I rate this mic as a great all rounder for acoustic guitars. I wouldn't be without one.
Other than that, consider the very reasonably priced Studio Projects B3 or the C1 if you want general purpose LD condensors.
Note though. A good microphone is 'nothing' with a decent preamplifier. Look at the FMR RNP and the Studio Projects VTB1 which are both reportedly a steal for the price. Mackie XDR pre's are as low as I will go as I have heard the difference with a recording done through a decent mic preamplifier.
Rimmer
p.s. Another reportedly decent mic is a Behringer ECM8000. Cheap as chips and reasonable apparently. The only downfall for me is it's omni directional as it's apparently designed on a more expensive test microphone
In reply to Rimmer
In reply to Rimmer.
You said that a good microphone is nothin without a good preamp... I was just going to hook the mic directly to the BR1180 (it has phantom power if needed). If I am going to spend money on a mic, should I also get a preamp? I didn't realize preamps were an issue.
Thanks for your replies.
Re: In reply to Rimmer
There are a few things to consider to get a clean and professional sound to tape (as it were).
1. Sound source. There is nothing more important than getting the sound you want at source.
2. A proper and short signal chain. Providing you have the sound source you are looking for, a properly chosen and decent quality mic to a decent mic cable to a decent mic preamp to a decent interconnecting cable to a decent recording medium. If you are converting to digital as most people do these days (mainly due to the fact that tape is rarely used these days) then you should also consider the quality of the A/D (analogue to digital convertors).
3. That's about it...
Preamps are the most missunderstood essentials in that recording chain. As with any chain of devices, the end result is as good as the weakest part of the chain. Where people miss out is in the mic preamp which some people consider more important than the mic. I am divided on that one..
The lowest level of acceptable quality preamp I would use happily is the XDR preamps in the Mackie VLZ pro mixing desks. If you want a cheaper solution, then the M-Audio audio buddy is a great buy and doubles as a half decent instrument DI. It has two mic/Di inputs and is cheap.
Up from there, I would head for a Studio projects VTB-1. Valve single channel preamp compared by many people I really respect to valve preamps costing around $500.
There is a company called FMR that make a well known and surprisingly cheap compressor called a RNC (stands for Really Nice Compressor). They have recently bought out an RNP (really nice preamp... ;/ ) which is highly regarded.
If you want to do yourself a favour, buying an RNP and then an RNC and linking the two together as a front end signal chain will do you very well from vocals to violins. You would need to turn the input trim on your HD recorder to zero otherwise you will essentially be using the preamp in the Boss which can't be very impressive at that price. The boss will colour the signal with it's average (not knocking it, just being realistic) A/D convertors so you are not matching the level of the front end components but the sound quality should improve noticably.
Check out the above and don't forget the VTB-1. Check out the Studio projects C1 and B1.
Check out these guys
http://www.poetica.nl/
There are Mp3's that have been recorded with a studio projects C1 through Joe Meek and Mackie (comparable preamps to a Audiobuddy, the Mackie that is...) preamps.

Re: Looking for the best condencer mic for acoustic guitar, chee
I like MXL mics from Marshal electronics. Not to be confused with Marshal amplifiers! you can get them at www.musiciansfriend.com or www.music123.com Really good mics for the price. I did some work for a steal string acoustic guitar player, and after I gave them the final cut they wanted to know what the microphone was called so they could get one. MXL-1006; Around 100USD

Re: Looking for the best condencer mic for acoustic guitar, chee
I was wondering if there is any market leader in nylon string acoustic mics at around the $700U.S mark, or simply what is a good mic for around that price.
I need the best way to copy from BR1180 to CD
I've been working with a Boss BR1180 without the CD drive. I would rather spend less than $350 on an external CD recorder than pay that for the one that Boss sells for the BR1180. I'd like some advise on what the best way to do this would be. I'm not going to have a computer much longer so I won't be able to get a burner for my computer. I also want to do this digital, using the digital output from the BR1180. I am wondering how the track layout would be for several songs on one CD. Would I be able to burn a track, then select another song on the BR1180 and then burn that track, then select another on the BR1180 and then burn that track? Would be best thing to do just be to get the BR1180 burner? I thank whoever replies to this.
Re: I need the best way to copy from BR1180 to CD
I've got a BOSS BR 1180CD, and when i try to back-up a song,i.e., burn a data CD, I keep getting this message: "CD WRite Error!

Acid Pro 4.0
I wanted know how can I get my microphone to work on Acid Pro 4.0.
Re: Acid Pro 4.0
: I wanted know how can I get my microphone to work on Acid Pro 4.0.
check your mutimedia vol controls in your control panel settings,..
right click on property's and select recording menu.
make sure your inputs are not muted.
Re: Acid Pro 4.0
: I wanted know how can I get my microphone to work on Acid Pro 4.0.
The same way you get any microphone to work with any audio software - you just have to choose the right port for recording in your audio properties.
For instance, if you have a soundblaster, check microphone, and plug your mic into that - if you're running a real mic with a mixer, you can plug the mixer output into the line-in jack.
If you're using another type of card, the answer is similar - just look around - you'll figure it out.
By default, your audio card might not be set to record the input you want it to record.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood recorded Relax on the album Welcome to the Pleasure Dome. It was not, however, featured in Videodrome, to my knowledge.
It WAS featured in Body Double, and of course in Zoolander.
You can probably get the song off the Zoolander Soundtrack, which should be current.
It's also downloadable off Kazaa.
If you want to figure out who did covers of the song, go to google and type Relax Covers.
Here's a list from the Covers Project:
Relax covered by Captain Sensible
Relax ? covered by Powerman 5000
Relax covered by New Bad Things
Relax ? covered by Kevorkian Death Cycle
Relax ? covered by Unit:187
Relax ? covered by Buzzkill
Re: songs dj puts on?
the in scene where zoolander is about to kill the prime minister, the dj puts on like 2 or 3 songs..there is a mix that he puts on, and they keep on switching it to RALAX..
does any know the name of the mix song that keeps on getting switching with ralax
Re: who sings this song?
I found what I believe you're looking for on Kazaa, it was not labeled under an artist though. It plays in the credits of Zoolander and I found it under Zoolander soundtrack on Kazaa. I am still trying to figure out the artist of this cover.
