Help to Edit Out Voice Tracks on CDs

Dear Anyone,
Is it possible to edit the voice track or tracks on a CD out (and then record them on a cassette or burn them on a CD) so that only the music remains? What software would you recommend? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Re: Help to Edit Out Voice Tracks on CDs

Hello Nanako,

yes this is just about possible please see below for several messages posted over the past week with answers which explain what you need to do OK?

Music notes taking software ????

I enjoyed visiting your web site. I started to play the Sax few month ago. I
enjoy playing tunes that I'm familiar with. I write the notes in a notebook
(by hand). I'm interested in a free download software that allows me to type
the notes and print it (possibly also playing it on the computer to hear how
it sound...).
Any suggestions ?????
Thanks for your help. If you don't know the answer but can direct me I'll
appreciate it just as well...

yep have a look round www.sonicspot.com at 'Notation' software - no freeware but some cheap. Also 'audio/midi sequencers' often have notation functions/staff editing etc.

MP3 Recording

What software can I use to burn mp3's onto disc's in mp3 format? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Combining Several Songs into 1 File

Is there a program that will allow me make cuts from various mp3 songs and combine them into one file? The purpose is to create a soundtrack for a slide presentation.

Thanks for your help!

You can use WinOnCD 3.7 and higher, works perfect.

I simply want to add to what others here have said. MP3 is a data format, so if you want to burn it onto a CD in that format, just do it as you would any other file. It won't be an audio track, instead it will be data.
If you want it playable on any CD player, you will have to have software that can do MP3 format onto audio tracks. Despite some belief, not all CD burning software can do this. I found the Adaptec which came with my burner would only do .wav format to audio tracks.
I went out and purchased CD Stomper's Click 'n' Burn Pro, and it does a great job with MP3 files. Adaptec's full version also does well, but it's more pricey. Of course, any burner software should handle saving it on CD as an MP3 with no problem whatsoever. . .since they all handle data saving.
Good luck!

Re: MP3 Recording

I record MP3's to CD all the time. I just use the software that came with my burner. The CD's do play on regular players too.

you can't burn mp3's onto a cd. You have to change the format to a WAV file. Download Winamp and you can change them useing there player.

I don't think mp3s burn to CD?? Look at FAQ page of this site (

That is an absolutely retarded statement. MP3 is a digital data format. Can be burned just like any other data CD.

Yes that's right - I meant mp3 not readable by standard CD play

Re: I don't quite follow what u mean. Harmonies involve the use

Many thanks for your reply, an instruction souce would be a help but I do read music and my intention was to use a piano score as a profile and accoustic bass to the lower line viloin to the upper line and possibly two other instruments to the middle lines. What do you think????. Your reply will be appreciated. JIM EADY.

If I follow you -

if u can load the score into your Computer as a midi file then your sequencer will play this file? Now u can have the file played by any of the 127 midi voices supported by most soundcards by telling Cakewalk which one to use. This is easily done have a look round. Now you could copy the midi file onto several different tracks and assign different instruments to each of these tracks to have a wide instrument base. This would sound a bit confusing obviously so open the track in the edit grid you want to be the bass and simply delete all the notes you don't want the bass to play and repeat this for the other instuments. This will do it if I get you right?

REPLY TO STEVE IF I FOLLOW YOU

Steve: Many thanks for your interest. What you say makes a lot of sense when it is put in those terms. I am about to busy myself with Scott's Cakewalk Power book. I also intend to read up on
acapella harmony and this should enable me to put a bit of variety into my own harmony lines. Once again many thanks. Jim E.

great, glad to be of help best of luck Jim

It takes some time to create music no matter what kind it is. You'll have to just mess around with some programs and see what sounds good, what you like, and what works well with your system.

If you want to jump right into some software that isn't TOO hard to figure out try Fruity Loops. It's got a few really great features and sounds quite nice for what it is.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Yes try the demos - the more the merrier

CJB is right you'll need to spend the time with various demos to get the feel for what you want to do and what is possible with each program. Have a look round www.sonicspot.com - a user friendly data base with many downloads. You can build up a lot of experience with demos before forking out for a program you reallt like. Tried instant music packages like Ejay? Ultimately limited but very useful for the beginner.

Wav Normalization for Linux?

Does anyone know of any Linux shareware programs that normalize? I would optimally like to have wav files normalized, but anything on Linux is a start. I would like one that's command line executable.

Most audio editors...

...can handle normalising. I would have a sift through these and see what you can find. I would be shocked if there is nothing there that can handle the job

I still have one:

you will use the MIDI Out of the Clavinova
Setting of the transmission channel number:
default is channel 1;
while pressing the TRANSPOSER/MIDI button,
press on of the keys between C1 and D#2
to set the channel number in the range of 1 to 16

to switch between OMNI-OFF and -ON, use the
TRANSPOSER/MIDI button; setting of reception channel
in the same way as described ahead

For more info I might send you the MIDI implementation chart by e-mail

zip/stuffit file with serial number?

[The body of this post has been lost]

I think...

... that Aladdins Stuffit Expander/Dropstuff will do that. I can't quite remember, but I think there is an option in one of the menus that allows you to add a password to a file so you can't unpack it without it.

help clark learn to remix

Hi
I am new to desktop music, I want to learn how to "remix", software, "general tips of approach". any thing that can help me shed my whitness!!!
any help ....links etc are greatley appreciated.

NEED MORE BACKGROUND INFO ON YOU

First, I need to know what your experience is with
music. Are you a DJ? Do you have any prior musical training? Do you know anything about
music theory? Almost all dance music (if that's what your looking to remix) is in minor cord with
measures usually running at 8, 16, or 32 beats.
These songs you want to remix, do you want to
just cut, edit, splice, paste, and rearrange the song differently? Or, will you be working with the
accapella and lying down your own beats and melody
with samples or original scores? .Wav files or
MIDI? Again, I have no idea what your level of
knowledge of music is so I really can't help much
at this point (especially through E-mail).
I would suggest checking out Pro Sound and Stage
Lighting catalog or web page (www.pssl.com) They
have an indepth listing of "how-to" videos in the
field or area your inquiring about. I strongly
recommend the video approach as it can show you
technics as well as how to use the "generic" music software. And you can play it again and again until you understand.
Please feel free to E-mail me if you have any questions. Good Luck!

Re: help clark learn to remix

None of these people ask you whether you want to remix your recorded music with new vocals, or recorded vocals with new music. One is harder than the other.

1) Use existing music with new vocals: this is easy. You will need the following:
MIDI/WAV Sequencer with good GUI and high tempo sensitivity (3 decimals is good). Cubase, Logic, Cake

-Program/load a simple midi kick/snare 4/4 drumbeat in the sequencer (hopefully the song is 4/4; otherwise, adjust)
-Load the wav into the sequencer, and sync the song's drum track to your MIDI drum track with the tempo. Don't wav-stretch the song.
-Once you have the tempo, and all the beats line up, delete all the bars with vocals. Hopefully you have the music for all the song parts.
-Record new vocals.

OR

-get a midi version
-replace the drums with your own, add new instrument lines etc.
-record new vocals.

Taking existing vocals and adding your music is harder: you will need:
Same sequencer
Wav Editor with real-time EQ functions (Wavelab, Soundforge, etc)
A good idea of what you want to do.

-Sync the drum beats again.
-Mark the drum-less song so that when you fix it up in the wav editor, you won't lose the tempo points.
-Use EQ to drop out the Lows (kick drum) and the highs (hats). If you are very careful, you can use EQ to clean out some of the instruments in the mid range, but you will lose a lot of the vocal tonal quality.
-Apply your own drums, instruments etc.

Re: help clark learn to remix

Get a copy of Acid Pro 2.0 to mix all your waves, Sound Forge 4.5 to edit your waves, and
get all the cool plugins. One or two packages of plugins should be enough. I like Steingberg and TC series. You don't need a good I/O card for remixing. Most likely someone will give you a CD to remix with. Some people will give you in a DAT, but you can request for it in CD. Use some ripping software to rip the CDDA (AUDIO) TO WAVE, than start slicing. You can use some VST plugins or softsynth to make additional tracks. Remember, most remixes are based on looping. I found ACID is the best tool for it. In my studio, I use VST5, PRO Audio 9, and LA 4.5. I found ACID more useful for remixing than any other host (seqencer/audio) packages. I am a Protool hater, so I won't even discuss it. Fuck the standard. If I am going to pay $6k for Pt/24, I could use that money on somewhere else!!!!

This is how I started a long time ago...

1. Download Goldwave (Great program)
2. Pick out some CDs/MP3s you really like.
3. Use Goldwave to record the songs. (If they aren't hard-copy/on your hard drive (MP3/CD) already.)
4. Practice "Trimming" & "Cutting & Pasting"

Just get an idea how music "looks" on a computer. Try to set some beats up and "Loop" them. Goldwave is a good first step. I still use it and I've been remixing tunes for 9 years!

I hope this helps a little!
