you need set of midi cables plug end one in to the midi out of your keyboard and the other end into the midi in on your sound card. tnen you need some composing softwear you should have got cubasis with the platinum card, that will do nicely. next read the electronic help files in cubasis on how to set up the sound card to work with the softwear and away you go.
as for tutorials on using the card you could try the creative web site. www.sblive.com.

Best software to copy audio cd's

What is the best software to use in backing up an audio cd?
I have found that lots of my older cd's are starting to skip etc and any replacements are going to be backed up so then I'll always have the original to copy from in future.
I know that most cd recording software can do the task but which is the most accurate and reliable?

Thanks for any informed replies.

Re: Best software to copy audio cd's

If CDs skipping have u tried cleaning with soap+water in a straight line from centre to edge of disc? Only imperfections on surface should cause skipping (or a faulty player).

A CD ripper would probablly do the job best as these take info straight from disc to convert whereas CD recorders take the audio signal from the soundcard thus introducing an quality question. So long as you convert to standard rates (16bit/44100Hx stereo) you shouldn't notice any difference between rippers but chech a few out and listen carefully through headphones for background hiss im quiet parts or distortion at loud parts etc. Check rippers in software section - link near top of main page. CDex freeware + very good.

midi to mp3

I have some midi stuff I wrote with encore...
I would like to convert it to MP3.
Does someone know how to do it ?
I can bring help on Delphi 5? Interbase and OOP
stuff .....
Thanks ..

quite easy

Yes Paul - put the midi track into a sequencer and simply record it or 'bounce down' to an audio track. Make sure you have proper selections in soundcard options to enable card to record the midi output back to the audio track. Export the track as .wav then convert to mp3 with something like 'CDex' - freeware. You may also be able to simply play the midi file on PC and record soundcard output with a simple sound recorder or audio editor - 'Sampled' again freeware may do this.

Re: Best Buy Software Synth , Have your say...

I really like NI Pro-52 for Analog Synth sounds. It is awesome sounding and intuitive to program. Also it runs in VST and also standalone which is very handy. I always wanted to own a prophet and now I can without all the hassels. The GakStoar and Model E are powerfull synths and offer lots of different sounds and great presets. The Rainbow synth is pretty cool, with lots of knobs and you can make your skins too. The ones I don't like are ReBirth, Neon, Muon Tau and SC-101. These synths are dull, mostly because the synths they emulate are so limited. The 101 and the 303 are really pretty limited synths so unless it's Acid music they are pretty useless. IMHO there are too many analog style synths. I want to see some really good VSTi Additive synths, Granular synths etc. I've got reaktor but I think it's a bit CPU intensive and too complicated. Having that flexibility is great but most times you just want to dial in a sound and tweak it around a bit, rather than designing a whole synthesizer! I have been meaning to check out the Waldorf PPG because it looks pretty interesting. I also like NI B4 because it sounds awesome and it's like a Hammond B3 in your computer.

Re: Best Buy Software Synth , Have your say...

best ones must be VST instrument compatible as that's the future (and the present). Also must not use too much CPU unlike Reaktor. Must be userfriendly (not overly modular - Dynamo good idea). Must come with great presets cause the experts know it all anyway. Must look nice if u gonna spend time looking at it. Must resize well unlike RetroAS-1 which won't fit on my screen no matter what resolution or DreamStation which too small (can be used as soundmodule).

damaged cakewalk files

: : I have had the same problem with .wrk files and pro audio 9, but I find that they can usually be opened by an earlier version of cakewalk. (5 or 6 does the job for me). Good Luck.

bad news

a terrible occurance we all dread! The golden rule is to always make backups even if on the same hard disk as this may have helped in this case.

If file is corrupted all my be lost but you might try things like moving it around say to floppy disk then back to hdrive - it's a long shot but may do something. Also have u right clicked file and 'open with' Cakewalk as well as trying to open from within program? Maybe even uninstalling Cakewalk then reinstalling may help - again a long shot but if desperate try anything!
