Sheet music

I'm looking for the sheet music for the musical Notre Dame de Paris, in particular "The age of the cathedrals"

Re: Sheet music

Hey Bugsy,

Have you been to the offical web site for Notre Dame de Paris? You could <a href="mailto:mistralmer@aol.com">ask them</a> if or where it is available. Also, check out the online sheet music stores;
Here's the <a href="http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Shopping_and_Services/Music/Sheet_Music_and_Notation/">Yahoo Sheet Music and Notation directory</a>.

Best of luck.

advice on starting out

help required.
i am thinking of taking next stage in computer music production from using wav files and usual magix/acid software to production using midi.
my budget allows for 2 options.
1. evolution controller keyboard plus soundblaster souncard (£300)
2. purchasing a secondhand keyboard with its own sounds

has anyone got any any advice on the best option to take if indeed they are the best options.
any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: advice on starting out

I'd say get the soundblaster ensuring it supports soundfonts and you'll have a lot of potential there. You'll also need a good sequencer - Data Beckers music Centre Pro has excellent midi funcionality and is very cheap too! For good synth sounds you can use a soft synth many of which are very cheap. Controller keyboards are a bit naff so why not get a very cheap midi keyboard which don't come in at much more anyway.
RAM is important - u should have 96MBmin so if not u can get an extra 64MB for £50.

is there a program that will change mp3,s to a format that will allow me to play cd,s on my sterio player
LOU

Re: converting formats

Yes. But the MP3s have to be converted to a format that can be played on a standard stereo.

Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MP3_CD_Maker/">MP3 CD Maker</a> and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MP3Burner/">MP3 Burner</a>

Samples...

I bought a Gregorian chant CD for sampling at one point and it cost be a few pounds. You could pay a similarly small amount for choir recordings from online or high street music shops... it's an idea.

I have used this place in the past but do so little sampling that I haven't really ever got into it. I suspect you will find something though...

MP3 to Midi ????????????????????????????

please email me if you know hoe to convert an Mp3 into a Mid thanks

Re: MP3 to Midi ????????????????????????????

Download a converting program software.
I use Media JukeBox.
http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/
its an all in one kinda mp3 player similar to realjukebox but also allows you to convert mp3 to wav files under their Tools menu.. Converter... Change format to uncompressed wave... now they also have option to directly record mp3's to your burner.. but i've been unsuccessful with that so you might want to just stick with wav conversion.

How do I capture the audio traks out of a vcd onto a blank CD-R?

Please tell me how I can copy the audio tracks of a vcd into a blank CD-R? Thank you

slowing down in tune?

I'm into transcribing old tango recordings: that is listening to those old recordings from the 40's for a thousand times and writing down the notes for all the instruments. It would be nice if I could slow down the recording so it would be easier to hear the harmonies. I tried using pitch control but then of course the tonality changes and that does not really help. Who knows what software (preferrably for Mac) I could use to slow down music without changing the pitch?

Time stretch...

You want to 'Time Stretch' which will adjust the speed of the playback without affecting the pitch of the music. It is a great feature that can be found in many different audio editors for the Mac including the Popular 'Bias Peak' or 'Spark'.

I did a search in the file area on this site for Time Stretch and came up with this. Haven't used it so no further comments. There are others so go take a look for yourself.

Did you have any luck getting your running?
I have about the same problem!

Re: I've no idea - can't get mine to work either - apparently no

i had the same problem
after configuring the software i tryed a new thing: i reversed the midi-in/out cables on the keyboard and voila! it worked

if still not, then make shure your midi works (play a .mid file and make shure sound comes out), if not then reinstall your soundcard drivers to get the midi working
then set up a midi-keyboard: goto preferences>multimedia> click on the midi tab> select the midi connection (from the soundcard) >add new instrument> then in your sequencing program select the right midi port
make shure the keyboard is powered & on
should work by now

if not then there could be a conflict with the sound card: each manufacterer has it's own midi-adapter cable (!!), so if the one from radioshack doesn't work, oder one from your soundcard manufacterer (creative, terratec...)

if you've still got problems with the setup, email me (doodydexter@yahoo.com)

good luck

Advice on package

can you suggest a software package for the pc along the lines of Startracker on the old Amega - basically i require a 12 track or more sequencing package, that is easy to use! - i've tried cakewalk & it's too complex

Regards Mark.

Data Beckers Music Centre Pro is a breeze + excellent too

Vocal Isolation.

I'm looking for a (preferably) Direct X plugin that can isolate a vocal and eliminate the rest of a track. Any Ideas or help would be awesome.

Re: Vocal Isolation.

Sorry but I haven't seen anything that does this.

SoundHandle for Windows

I am looking for a software for windows 98 that has the same functions as SoundHandle for Macintosh. If you know of any, I would really appreciate if you could let me know. Thanks

Re: SoundHandle for Windows

I'm not sure if there are any programs that do 'exactly' the same things, but you might want to start your quest <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_EDITORS/">here</a>.

MTV Music Generator

i bought got pissed off at and returned Mixman Studio, cause it just sucked. They only make what i want, MTV Music Generator, for the PSX. Is there any comparable PC program out there? I wanna take a track and change the notes, key, speed, all without sacrificing quality. Music Generator let me do that. I could actually compose, it was great! But i can't find one goddamn software for PC that even comes close. Any ideas??

thanx

try one pff the acid range.

Re: MTV Music Generator

Er... Yeah, Music 2000 is now available for PC. But you probably know that now anyway...

Re: MTV Music Generator

Yeah they have a PC Version but it's hard to find.
I found one at a local Target but it was the only one, and I've never seen another copy there. So if you can't afford ACID/don't want to have to afford ACID, you could search for that somewhere.

good lucks

Re: MTV Music Generator

yeah they have it for PC also, although it can be hard to find. I got a copy at a Target and it was the only one they had. I've never seen another one in circulation, and there's virtually no websites on it. Acid is kind of expensive if your just messing around, but if you can find it the PC version is awesome.

good luckys

Audiowriter software

Since I purchased audiowriter I have not been able to benfit the use of the full version. I have had to download the demo. My password is: 84984139. When I type in the password I get a message: Invalid password. I would really love to see the full version of this program. I would reccomend this software if I could get my password to work. Can you HELP! Thanks, William Brown

neumann U87

I recently picked up a Nuemann U87 on loan from a client and would love to acclimate it into my home studio but i know nothing about older mics. Even though it came with batteries, the people at my local Mars store said i need phantom power to run it. But when I engage my phantom power, I get nothing. I installed the (rather old looking) batteries, but that didn't help either. Could it just be that they're dead? They don't look like standard batteries...about the size of double-As but not as round.
So right now I have a $3,000 microphone just siiting on my living room table. Can anyone help?

JJ

Re: neumann U87

Hey, man. You have a terrific mike on your hands. I have never seen a battery option for it. It's a condenser mike so it needs a power supply to work, that's the phantom power. It sends direct voltage (48 volts) to the mike through the XLR audio cable. For sending phantom you should look for the proper switch on your audio console. On expensive desks there are individual Phantom switches per channel, but on cheap desks as Mackies there are common Phantom switches (on/Off switch) on the rear of the desk. generally on the same area where the audio inputs are located.
There used to be External Phantom Power supplies but I don't think they make them any more.
I hope this help. Cheers,
Alex

Midi sequencing

Hello!
I'm new to the art of composing, mixing and producing my own music using the computer, and would therefore be really grateful for any advice regarding the best software suitable for a beginner.
I have a SoundBlaster 1024 Platinum soundcard with LiveDrive, which came with Cubasis VST. I also have DataBecker's Music Centre software. So far, I haven't come to grips with either of the programs, particularly regarding using either or both in conjunction with the SoundBlaster Platinum.
Advice on making a start, either with what I have got, or on what software would best suit my needs, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Re: Midi sequencing

You have two very exceptional programs (and a top of the range soundcard) so no more is needed! Try messing about with MCP first as it's much easier to understand. Open audio options in it and make sure your soundcard is selected for both midi and audio. Then try the demo songs or a midi file u can download, Also read the manuals!!!

software on mp3

I would like a software program that will remove the words on a MP3 and change the pitch. I'm tired of buying programs that does not do what they say it will. thanks.

Re: software on mp3

You may have to convert the MP3 to WAV and then use this <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/htdig/htsearch.cgi?method=and&format=builtin-long&config=htdig&restrict=%2Fsmm%2Fprograms%2F&exclude=&words=vocal+remover">vocal remover</a>. Then I'd use an audio editor like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a> or <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SoundForgeXP/">Sound Forge</a> to pitch shift.

Cheers
