Whats the most accurate/fastest way to figure the BPM of a song?
I know this is prolly a dumb question, but there it is. Whats the most accurate/fastest way to figure the BPM of a song? Im really GREEN to this whole mixing thing and im having a hard time making songs the same BPM. TIA!

Re: Whats the most accurate/fastest way to figure the BPM of a s
My answer may even sound dumber, but it really works. If you are having trouble matching beats you can go an spend a couple hundred bucks buying one of those confusing bpm counters or do what I did. Go to a music store and buy a digital metronome. Preferably one that has a audio "click" sound and a led readout. What you do is adjust the metronome faster or slower until you find the speed of your record. They cost about 12 bucks. To give you an idea of where different genres usually range check this out.
hip hop 85-95 bpm
down tempo / trip hop 95-120
techno 130-140
trance 135-145
house 130-140
jungle 185-195
hard core 180+
although this isn't exact, usually these genres go these speeds.

Re: Whats the most accurate/fastest way to figure the BPM of a s
It's been a while since I've used this one, but if you check out a program called 'FruityTracks' at www.fruityloops.com, there is a section in the program where you can click your mouse button in time to the beat of any given sample and get a read-out of the bpm. I'm sure the what and where of it will be listed in the 'help' section.
This device comes with the free to download demo version of the program. Check it out !

Dude, there is a program that i use called WinBPM. All you do is play your track (making sure it is at 0% pitch) and tap the space bar on your computer to the beat. It tells u the BPM of the track. Easy as, and very accurate!

can a PC read a MAC CD disc???
i,ve burnt some PRO TOOLS data from a G4 onto CD (ie. sessions and Sound Designer II files), but my PC CD-ROM drive won't recognise the CD at all, even though Awave 4.5 will read SD II files. Mac's can read PC format discs, so are there any CD drivers or software which will allow me to read the discs without me writing them as PC format????

help me with cubase audio sequencing please
I have a pentium III pc running cubase 7/24 in conjunctiuon with a a creative live drive II soundcard and front panel. I am trying to use this to record live instruments direct to the hard drive for a multitrack project using a four track tape recorder as a mixer. Although, I am able to record to the disk using other programs such as soundforge, when I attempt to record using cubase, no waveform appears on the editor and nothing can be heard on playback. The program is not bereft of audio capacity entirely as i am pefrectly able to load prerecorded audio samples at 44.1Khz. help me record please!
help with Cubase
Hi.I seem to be having trouble with cubase vst.I have two problems.1,is that when i record an audio track, the click also records. So then i have a track of music but also the click in the back ground. And my other problem is that after i have recorded 4 or 5 tracks my computer troughs all the tracks in the air and the music is all over the place.I was told this was a memory problem but i have 192 mb of ram and it still does it .Please please help me.Thanks
Re: help me with cubase audio sequencing please
I think this is one for Steinberg Tech Support really, but ... I varguely remember a similar problem. Make sure the Disable Audio file item is not checked. Make sure your inputs are set up. Maybe as basic as this. I have had no problems recently.

Re: help me with cubase audio sequencing please
Hey, I used to work with Cubase for Mac, but I have noticed on other HardDisk Audio recorders and sequencers for PC that they "open up" with your basic audio card as default, which is commonly not the one you are planning to use professionally. I don't know what audio interface you are using, but perhaps your problem is Cubase is waiting for audio coming from a diferent audio interface than the one you are connecting your sounds to.
You should look for the input options, and try to "tell" Cubase which audio interface you want the audio to get from.
The Layla Card, for instance, has an extra mixer window, and you have to set up input levels and stuffs like that to get your audio properly.
This is too basic, but perhaps it might help.
Good luck,
Alex

what burner do you recommend?I know nothing about these.Looking
amazon.com has some listed for under $200.I am looking at an HP 8x4x32x,also a creative labs blaster 8432 that is $132.94.I have a gateway 350,64 mb ram, pentium II computer.also is it very difficult to install your on,I was told I was taking a chance blowing my hard drive.
Re: what burner do you recommend?I know nothing about these.Look
Creative Labs make great cards and I've seen great reviews of one of their CD Burners too. Drive bay devices are easy to fit. You need to make sure you are earthed throughout installation(put your bare foot against an unpainted radiator pipe + hope the pipes are earthed!) and don't touch any of the chips, otherwise computers are quite sturdy inside.

winamp file conversion
I have some files of guitar lessons and licks that are in winamp format. I'd like to write them to CDs to play outside my computer with the new HP CD-writer I installed.
How do I convert them to either MP3 or the format to write on the CD? When I use the HP software to find all music files, the winamp ones don't show up so there seems to be no conversion utility, except for the Mp3 files?
Thanks.
help!!! how can i remove vocals from songs?

Re: help!!! how can i remove vocals from songs?
Difficult to do well. Apply AnalogX Vocal Remover to a wav track inside an audio editor/sequencer which will handle this DirectX plugin.

Re: AnalogX Vocal Remover it not good

Software for recording DJ sets??
I am a dj who wants to find the best possible free / cheap software to record Dj sets though my computer's mic jack onto my computer's hard drive. It needs to be the kind that displays the entire track in wav form for track marking and quantizing (sp?)if possible. Then burn to Cd. Anyone have any suggestons?
Re: Software for recording DJ sets??
Hi Steve,
I use a combination of Cool Edit 2000 and Sonic Foundry's - Siren Juke Box. I find this to be the best possible combination for downloads from CD or from Line or Mic connections. I use the MP3 format on both programs although the cool edit has ability to convert to and from a vast number of formats. They are relative cheap and both have a downloadable demo version.

Way around tempo recording?
I'm trying to find a way around being slaved to a
tempo when recording a sequence from my keyboard.
I'm wondering if there is a sequencing program out there
(software or hardware-based) that would allow me to record a
jam at a rough tempo of my own for a given number of
measures, then enter the number of measures into the
program, along with the start and end points, and then
have the program determine a tempo from this info.
Then I could mess with the quantizing and note editing
on my own. Does such a program exist? Help!

I am a UK trance producer, and I need feedback on a couple of tracks before i press them to white label. any comments would be appreciated
i have included direct links below, just cancel any beatnick pop-ups that appear, as the tracks are mp3s, and click download. You can email me your comments or leave them on the site. I would really appreciate your opinion. the tracks are trance, true is euphoric and architekture is a bit deeper with a d+b intro. Here are direct links to the two tracks:

How to prevent certain songs being cut off early when recording
This happens only with some mp3 files. If someone knows why, please reply or e-mail me.
Re: How to prevent certain songs being cut off early when recor
Some rippers/encoders have a feature that deletes the silence at the beginnning and end of a track. Make sure that is turned off cause it doesnt allways work properly. Hope that helps
Re: How to prevent certain songs being cut off early when recor
Nope, I'm affraid that's not the problem. The song is cut off at some random point in the middle, not at the silent end/beginning part.
Thanx for replying anyway...
