downloading midi files from the web

I found a MIDI file of a favorite song on a web page. Now how do I download it? Or is this a no-no? I just want to use it as background music for a personal page. Is this ok? Somebody please help me?

Re: downloading midi files from the web

If the midi-file is in hypertext(coloured - and your mouse-pointer turns to a hand when it's over the text) - all you need to do is right-click on the midi-file name and the single-left-click on 'Save Target as...'. This will bring up a box which allows you to choose a destination folder for where you want to save the midi-file, and to give your own name to the midi-file if you like. Click on 'Save' - a new box will appear to show that the file is downloading. When it says 'download complete' at the top of the box, click on 'close'(download time will probably only be a few seconds unless it's a very large file - most are only a few KB).
You will be able to play the file by double-clicking on its icon - the designated player(probably 'Windows Media Player' will start automatically).
It's quite alright to copy midi-files in this way for your own use - any files which are not meant to be copied will not allow the above process to proceed.
I've made a collection in this way, and have made a CD with them all on.
I hope that this lot makes sense, and more to the point, that it works!
Feel free to email me if you have any difficulties with the process.
Cheers,
Andrew.

How can i make my napster program download files to my zip-drive? It only gives me the option of my hard drive. Please email me at PIR8EC@aol.com

rm to wav conversion

I've been tring to convert rm to wav, I got the audio magic ring to try to convert these files, but I really don't understand what I'm doing. I don't know how to set my parrameters or what to set them to.Any other info would be helpful! I am a novice at this and its giving me a headache!!

Copying/Cloning Audio CDs

How can I copy/clone an audio CD without getting that crazy "2 second track gap" that Adaptec EZ CD 3.5 puts in? Should I use different copying software? Should I use clonding software? If so, which is the best?

yes a standard format conversion

hey Steve -

I don't know if MM will do it but Winamp won't. What you need is something like 'CDex' which is freeware and very easy to use - it's also a CDripper! Click the software link near the top of the main page of this site and look under 'Format Converters'.

What's the best mixing software

what are the best softwares available today.

This site has a million.....what do you guys think are the top 3?

Re: What's the best mixing software

Out of over 3,100 downloads, there's a lot of competition for the 'best' program.

Try the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/top20/">Top 20 page</a> for the most popular downloads. There are some quality picks there.

I like Acid, FruityLoops, Hammerhead and Cool Edit 2000 quite muchly myself.

Cheers
Geoff

Re: What's the best mixing software

For my budget I've picked PULSAR and it's great!

http://www.creamware.com
http://www.planetz.com

It doesn't do HD Recording, though. 4 that I use TripleDat (also creamware). - I like it a lot.

what do u mean - recording???

If u mean recording then I'd say No1 is Cubase VST5 for it's incredible effects/dynamics section and VST instrument compatability. But it's expensive! Value for monet it's deff Data Beckers Music Centre Pro for it's excellent midi via XG funcionality. And FruityLoops is my No3 for it's ease of use, excellent features, samples and built in synth.

If u want a cut down list of progs with reviews and screenshots try www.sonicspot.com

I need a cubasis vst manual

i have an original of cubasis vst, which came with my soundcard, but no manual was provided. Can anyone supply me with an address in the UK where I can get one?

Re: I need a cubasis vst manual

So do I, Dale!
If you have any luck in tracing such a manual, I would be grateful if you'd let me know.
There is however, a manual in 'Acrobat' format, which you can include when you install the Cubasis program. Sorry if you knew this already - it took me a while to realise that it was there. However, if you are like me, a printed Manual is definitely preferable.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: I need a cubasis vst manual

Can any of you email me the .pdf file? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Dave

Re: I need a cubasis vst manual

Did anyone have any luck. I too need a Cubasis VST manual. I've been using the Acrobat manual but there are quite a few things it doesn't tell you e.g. what some of the buttons on the Edit:List Window do.

Re: I need a cubasis vst manual

Hi,
Try looking on the cd using explorer there should be a acrobat reder on there. download that then open ant pdf file one of which is the manual.
Can u help me i can not bet any notes in score edit only symbols.

Cheers

Reading music

I have limited knowledge of music and how to read it. I would say I do not know how to read music. I can tell when to go up and when to go down by looking at the notes. I sing with a group and it is hard for me to learn new songs because of my limited knowledge of reading music. I presently bring a tape recorder to practice with me and get it on tape so i can practice at home. Sometimes the time before we sing and practice is a matter of days and is not enough time for me to learn it to the confidence level i would like before singing solo. Is there a program that you can scan music in or manually digitize the notes on a scale. Then the program will play back the melody so i can learn and sing with it. I have downloaded two products already and spent hours doing so but they are not suited for this or I do not understand how to use it.
Kurt

Re: Reading music

Yes Kurt there are plenty of programs to help you along like this. Have a look at the 'notation' section of www.sonicspot.com where you will find ten or so examples. If none of them look suitable check this sites notation section (link at top of main page) where there is a bigger but confusingly organised collection. Some 'Shareware' programs may do all u need and would not need to be purchased outright.

audiocards stores

I need some new-york Music Computer stores adresses
I Want to Buy a Audiophile 2496 audio card (Midiman)

tried Yellow Pages?

: I need some new-york Music Computer stores adresses
: I Want to Buy a Audiophile 2496 audio card (Midiman)

To specify my inquiry

To be sure: No smart-aleck features, no odds and ends, no loops! Reasonable length, say one to ten thousand notes per file. Reasonable orchestration, say at least ten sampled instruments simultaneously. Being used to Commodore music programming, I am not fussy about complicated input of score. In short, I am looking for musical software that enables me to implement my compositions more perfectly than my C-64 can.

yes Karli u want an 'midi sequencer' - click link to software se

have a look round. For excellent midi integration to XG standard Data Becker's Music Centre Pro is unbeatable in the sequencer market. Otherwise you'd be using an outside midi editor like Yamaha's XGEdit alongside one of these sequencers which are actually inacurately listed - they are infact 'audio/midi sequencers'.

me again - demo

Very second best this Karli but there is a demo download of 'Audio Master' which is Music CP's big brother on sonicspot -

http://www.sonicspot.com/quartzaudiomaster/quartzaudiomaster.html

It's exactly the same really in layout and function as MCP except it has more aux sends(8 instaed of 2) and maybe one or two other features/buttons. There used to be a demos for every product on the DB site but now all gone! A bit poor that but believe me you wouldn't be dissapointed with MCP's quality, functions and ease of use. And with a 30 day money back garantee what have u got to loose!

steve

PS to make use of the excellent XG features you'll need an XG compatible soundcard or else a software card like Yamaha's SY-XG50. These software cards are no good for recording audio alongside midi as there will be a delay. A work around if u don't have an XG card is to create midi backing, bounce it down to an audio track then record your audio alongside this midi to audio bounce down with no delay.

Inquiry

Is there any musical software working just like this:
INPUT: (1) my composition
(2) the instruments
OUTPUT:the music (MIDI or/and WAVE file)?
If so: Features? Demo? Download? Cost?

audio/embedded LTC? LogicCubase

can the smpte position of an audio item
in the arrangement of one sequencer
be embedded in that audio item
so that the item is automatically placed
at that smpte position in both Logic and
Cubase arrangements?
If so, how :-? tom.

Something better than recycle?

OK, call me lazy, but I'm looking for a Win-based
program that will automatically chop up a given .WAV
file (most likely a breakbeat) into
individual samples, depending on the number of beats
per loop I specify (say, 4 or 8 for a breakbeat loop
one measure long in 4/4 time). Now, you can do this
with Recycle, but it's not too automatic because you
have to go in and de-select from the cut points it chooses,
which aren't always rhythmically in time. Is there
anything out there that would do this more
intelligently?
Curious,
-Rob

yes there is and u lazee alright ! Go find it:)

Re: yes there is and u lazee alright ! Go find it:)

do it manually in an audio editior
I use pro tools on my mac, or even Acid on PC

sometimes your sample will start before or after the given metronomic divisions. When using these within a sampler you will notice the resulting sound is either clipped or behind the beat if you do not carefully cut the stuff up manually.

When I start up Logicfun it uses "Roland MPU-401",and I have to change this for every channel to "SB audio pci midi synth"to hear any sounds.Doing this every time I start up Logicfun is a bit of a pain.I can't find anything in the audio device setup to change this

changing output assignment each boot

I used Logic Fun once and found that prob tiresome too. Have since read somewhere that u can I believe select all and change together from track view - not sure how? Tried highlighting all the outputs then making change?

Line Dance Teacher

We teach line dancing. I burn my own cds using certain songs for our teach.
I would like to slow the bpm of these songs and then burn it to a cd for a teaching tool.
This allows us to use the same music as the dance was cheorgraphed to.
We use portable cd players for our teaches

Thanks

sheetmusic

Does anyone know of a god website where you can download (pay) sheet music for specific titles, rather than buying the whole book.
Oh and preferably in a format that allows me to print on a real computer (Mac).
I can print on the darkside (Windows) aswell but would prefere something like pdf files.

cool edit pro multitrack problem

Hi
I created a drum loop in Hammerhead, exported it as a .wav file, inserted it in first track of cool edit pro, then plug my guitar into a mixer that is output to my soundcard, and although I'm playing and recording live on track 2 along with the drum loop, when I play it back, the guitar parts start to drag off time, like there's a time delay or something. I know there must be an easy answer to this. All I'm trying to do is use CEP as a multitrack recorder for some songs that I've written. I would be so incredibly grateful for an answer...

emulated soundcard?

This delay problem will occur if an emulated or 'soft' soundcard is being used such as Yamaha's SY-XG50 or a Roland equivalent. If u using such a softcard (possibly because it has better midi sounds than your hardware card) then simply switch back to your hardcard via the Audio Properties control Pannel and also change similar input/output settings within Cool Edit too. Hope this does the trick.
