midi out?

I'm trying to play a midi file on n-track studio or record the midi file to a wav. file, but I get a message saying
"Error opening midi out device"

Can someone help me with what this means?
Is it possible to fix if I'm using a SB Live card?

Thanks in advance,
coolo

check the 'sound out' selections in n-track

hey coolo this should be easily fixed your card is a good one. The message means the midi info sent by n-track is not being read and converted to audio for some reason by your sound card!

Simply check 'audio options' or whatever they are listed as in n-track. You may not have a suitable 'sound out' selected for n-track to send it's midi info to so try different settings. Also u may have a similar facility for the card itself? Have a look, u should be able to select different options which will work.

Something worked

Thank you very very much steve. Thank you thank you thank you.
I switched the playback option under soundcard mixer from line in to midi, and it's working cool.
I'm very excited now. This has completely made my day.
Thanks again
coolo

I think it's great that you reply to mostly everyone's calls for help.
It seems there are so many beginners but few people who are willing to share their knowledge so freely.

hey thank you! nice to be appreciated

and I don't get paid for this either!:)

Mixing and stuff!!!!

I am completely new to all this stuff and just wondered what program I could use to take a music track I have and add speech over the top of it. Therefore making a mix, I see all these techno mixes and want in! As I say I am new and need the basics for all this! If a program is free its even better as I have very little funds at the moment but anything is cool! Cheers people!

Re: Mixing and stuff!!!!

Try:

n-track studio ($35)
Multiquence ($35)

only available on line at www.program_name.com

These should do the trick.

easiest way from midi to CD

I have a Mac, running Steinberg's Cubasis (free version that came with my synth), and an Alesis QS-6. I'm using the serial interface to connect them.

I would like to find the shortest path (i.e. the easiest and least expensive method) to get the sound that comes out of my QS-6 (well, ok, out of the speakers!) onto a CD. Hey, I'll make it easier than that! I just need to get it into a format (on a Jaz disk) that I can take over to my buddy with Toast and a CD burner for _him_ to put it onto a CD. But what format is that? What's the best way to record it?

I humbly request even obvious answers. I think I'm making it more complex than it really is. Thanks in advance for your help!

] I have Win98 running Cubas, so I hope you can follow the same path with your Mac

first I open up my Medie (recorder/player)
then press play button in Cubas on the tune I'm working on, then press the record button on the media player, this will record your midi song into a wav or aif, then record the wav file-aif to your C.D burner which will convert the song into audio

Hope this was of help

Ps: you may have to play around with the recording properies in you media player to get the best quility when recording

Re: easiest way from midi to CD

Ok, follow-up question: what media player? The only ones I have are the QuickTime player and a RealAudio player, neither of which can record (as far as I know). Am I still missing something here?

info regarding computer

I want to purchase an audio cd burner for my husband...our computer is a Pionex and has been upgraded to 14.5 GB....what must we have to be able to use a cd burner....my knowledge is poor...HELP! Thanks

Re: info regarding computer

any CD burner will probablly do Donna if it's a new PC. They plug in via USB or serial ports or are used to replace the existing CDRom drive - easily done:) It should come with suitable software too.

notation software

Is there software capable of converting cd/mp3 music to notation?

Re: notation software

You would have to convert the MP3 to WAV before you could translate it to notation.

recording

sorry you'll have to excuse my ignorance but i'm a little confused.
Can u record from guitar/instrument straight into the computer? if so how?. I have downloaded soundforge but i dont have any sound to work with(do i need a sound card or something), i have tried to record but it tells me this cant be done on the demo version? if it cant i have wasted my time cause the only reason i need it is to work on my own material!!
Also i have no idea off how to work soundforge, is this the best program for me or are there simpler programs to use?
Thanks 4 you're time, waiting patiently to hear from you.

Re: recording

Hi there

You can record into the computer but you will need a soundcard. Most PCs have them these days so I will take the liberty of assuming you have one.

You can plug a microphone into the sound card and record the guitar that way or plug an electric guitar into the sound card (altho' this doesn't produce great results).

Then you will need a recording program. There are heaps here. You should be able to find some freeware titles on that page.

Try:

Looper

Hi I'm a new looper "(loopbie:-)",
I wan`t to offer short loop files to viewers of my site that deals with hearing disorders. The targeted audience will most likely not be familiar with audio on the computer. So I would also like to send them the simplest of players that will automatically play a 5 second loop of white and other background noise that I've created. Is there such a player?

Remixing

How can I make a remix. Is there any software that can detach the vocals out of the background music?

Re: Remixing

: How can I make a remix. Is there any software that can detach the vocals out of the background music?

I have posted up the same exact question in places like alt.rave, which is sure to draw a laugh. Nobody likes to give away trade secrets.

I think you are going to have to look for some kind of sampling system. I am myself trying to find one that is PC software that allows me to plug a cassette player or ordinary home CD stereo player into the computer and record samples that way. Then I can plug those into Cubase and sequence them with my Rebirth songs.

That's all I have for now. I haven't gotten many answers myself.

Re: Remixing

Making a remix requires a load of work! It's hard to answer that part of the question without writing a book. Suffice it to say you can start with a bit of a song that you like and build up some beats and melodies around that.

The best software you can use just has to be Sonic Foundry's ACID.

Acid Music Demo 1.0
ACID 2.0d Demo

To remove vocals try http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/VocalRemover/

CUBASE VST

Is cubase VST a sequencer like Emagic Logic or Cakewalk?!? Anyone happen to know whether it's the full version of it that comes with live platinium or a trial of some kind?

Setting up GEM S2 Turbo as Masterkeyboard.

Hithethere,

I'm trying to setup GEM as a Masterkeyboard, controlling a CS1x and GigaSampler. I already figured it out a little bit, but there are still some drawbacks. For example I have to enable MIDI Thru (to my CS1x) in Cubase but have to disable Thru Channel 1 otherwise this things goes freaking. I alreadys installed it the other way arround, that my Cs1x was master and worked fine, but GEM s2 as master doesn't work. If i want to play Channel 5 I also hear channel 1 on the GEM S2 and this drives my crazy.

Has anyboday got some tips and tricks upon this problem, because I want to have the GEM as a Master. Should I just buy an extra MIDI card? Becasue now I'm working with just one MIDI connection.

Thanks in advance,
Clubbie

Connections

I suspect that you should set up the master keyboard as midi in and out to and from the computer. Then connect the Midi thru from the GEM to the CS1x. This means that any information from the CS1x will not be received by anything but it will receive all the data played on the Master keyboard and any information that is being sent from the sequencer. The rest should be a matter of selecting the desired Midi channel on each midi synth relative to the track Midi channel on the sequencer. It's sounds simple to me, is there something that i'm missing???

best wishes

amp to wav.

Is it possible for me to play my electric bass guitar and have it come out as a wav. file on my computer.
If so, what kind of software would I need. I have a SB soundcard.

First off...

Don't plug the bass straight into the computer whatever you do. You need to have the bass at a suitable level to be received but the soundcard. What you should do is plug the bass into a suitable bass amp that has a LINE OUT. You could plug that into the soundcards Minijack input or better still, into a mixing desk that outputs to the soundcard. Alternatively, you could plug the bass into a DI (direct injection) box which wont cost you much and could be bought from any decent music shop. This will level the sound from use into a mixing desk of sorts and then plug that into the computer. Plugging straight into a mixing desk and then into the computer would work although you will get a muddy sound as the mixing desk is not designed to accept a guitar level input and although will work okay, it will sound unusual until you DI it.

Seeking Band Members

Hello there!

I am a bass player from Southern California seeking members for my band “1Bad”. I recorded a 4-track demo and put it online a couple of weeks ago. I did everything on the demo. It’s a little rough production wise but it should be good enough for people to get an idea of what I like to play. Keep in mind that this material is not nearly as strong as my new songs. The CD “Silence” represents my first seven writing and singing efforts.

Please understand that I’m looking for band members, not hired hands. That means I don’t care how fast you can wiggle your fingers or beat your drums. It also means that I am seeking great people as well as good musical talent. If this sounds like you and you play guitar, drums or keyboards, please get in touch with me SOON! Also, if you have decided you need to stay poor in order to be happy, please don’t contact me. I need people who are good and who truly have no fear.

If you want to hear songs from my demo CD “Silence” you may go to my web site at http://www.1badband.com and I suggest you have a listen before you contact me so you can decide if it’s your kind of thing or not.

Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you soon.
