Confused about Soundsamples/fonts

First of all, My purpose is to buy a soundcard and software sequencer to record my guitar and voice at 24bit/96Hz, then orchestrate it using my GM keyboard with sound samples/fonts to create a DVD-Audio disk, or sample it down to CD-Audio.

This is what I plan to buy:
$200 - Ego Systems/ ESI-Pro Waveterminal 192L Soundcard (24bit/192Hz) with optional MIDI I/O.
$40 - Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 Upgrade ...(because I'm on a tight budget).
Already have - Casio WK-1300 General MIDI keyboard, mics, guitars and amp.
I Hope to download free soundsamples/fonts. I'll buy them if absolutely necessary.

My question is, since the Waveterminal 192L Soundcard doesn't include any sound samples or software, only the EWDM driver (ASIO 2.0 & GSIF compatible), do I need to buy any software other than Cakewalk (like, Gigastudio32) to apply samples/fonts to my MIDI tracks? Or, is there a work around, because I'm on a tight budget? Also, since I'm new to digital recording/mixing, any info or advice on software or hardware would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Confused about Soundsamples/fonts

If Your sound card dose not load sound fonts you can use Audio Compositor to create wav files out of MIDI useing an SF2 sound font. You can even edit sound fonts, and the program is cheep.

Re: Confused about Soundsamples/fonts

Consider Cakewalks compatibility with VST instruments and have a look around some VST soft synths and samplers and work out if you could get away with using those for your sounds.

How well have you researched your Audio card? I don't know the card you have chosen. Maybe I will go and do a search for it..

Re: Confused about Soundsamples/fonts

This card has exactly the right I/O that I need, it does 24/96, it has the ASIO 2.0 I need for cakewalk, the price is right (at $139+$49 for optional MIDI - from http://www.doctoraudio.com/specials.html). And, I got a response from another forum saying that Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 has the samples and synths to get me started. So, I ordered the card. Gulp! I just hope I made the right decision, but I did research it pretty well. There just isn't a lot of writups on it, but I did find some, and favorable. Following is an extensive thread concerning the 192 series...

: Lots of cards sound good on paper.. I would research more and more cards. Check out M-Audio, RME, Echo etc... Ask around some more for people that have used the card that are willing to give an honest opinion. Not trying to scare you but it's worth doing as much homework as you can before you take the plunge..

Rimmer:
This sounds to me like an awesome card(especially the 192x version, but that's over my budget).I was lead to this card from some website I don't remember, and was very suprised at the price I can get it for.
You can view specs, and even download the manual from the website (it's written in pretty bad English - their a Korean company - but the specs 24/192hz are awesome, and the I/O is perfect for me). I haven't been able to find any other reviews on it. Tell me what you think.

100% CPU with iSong

Anyone else notice that iSong music software burns up 100% of CPU? I've tested this on Win99, W2000, WinNT and WinXP - all with the Jimi Hendrix CD.
I wrote to iSong but they told me to bog off.

Cheers.

Computer to tape recording

Can anyone guide me to record some of my m3's on hard disk to tape. What equipments are neccessary to record?

Re: Computer to tape recording

You will need the computer, a tape machine and a lead to connect the computers audio output (probably a stereo minijack which incidently look like Walkman headphone jacks) to the tape machines audio input (usually phono connectors (aka. RCA's). The connecting lead can be bought from places like Radio Shack (Tandy in the Uk). Play the Mp3, get a level in the tape machine and your off..

The only other way I can think which might be better quality (due to the often low quality audio ins/outs on computers) is to burn the Mp3's to CD, and then connect the CD player (which will more than likely have better audio outputs than a computers') to the tape machine and record that way.

Re: Computer to tape recording

Hello ,
I like to know , Is there any way to get better quality audios while recording this way to tape ?When ever i record the way you described , It is fully noisy...Hope your reply .

Re: printing directory of burned CD's

you could to a screen capture of the directory tree in window (Print screen button)

or you could pull up a good old DOS promt and type DIR /S (from the directory you want to see) and copy and paste it into some text printer (eg. Word, Note Pad)

Re: Musictime installation trouble {version 2.0}

Walter

It is now 10 months later and I hope your address is still the same. My father used MusicTime, I have an installation CD and 1 3.5" disk. I know that when we did the origional installation I had the same problem. We solved this by getting the Anastasia font from one of the other disks.

Unfortunately my 3.5" disk has damaged and I have trouble installing myself. I can assist you with your problem if you can assist me. Can you please e-mail me the ~INS0762.LIB file on the 3.5" disk. It should be more or less 22k. The one on the CD is 141k but not the correct one.

Thank you
Waldo

Need Karaoke songs for my new machinee

I just purchased a new Karaoke machine, I think the files that came on the demo disk are .cda files. Where and how can I download some of my own?

Re: Need Karaoke songs for my new machinee

I believe CDA stands for compact disc audio. In other words, you have wav files. If you want more, then the chances are that they'll be 10MB per minute of music. Big downloads. I thought the format for karaoke was .kar. Those files are much more smaller and easier to find on the web. But it depends if you are talking about a specialised piece of hardware or your pc for karaoke, I guess. I'd talk to your dealer first and see what options you have.

My Last Resort!

Can anyone help me? I've been driven mad by a song I keep hearing every now & again. I dont know who sings it or the title. It's a little on the rock side I think. Sort of like the voice by John Farnham. the only lyrics I can remember are something like:
'From the east side to the west side, from the west side to the north' ( cant remember anymore of that bit) then goes it goes on..'and we'll believe in the word of mouth' ( i think!!) I know its a long shot but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it, I must get that track!!)

Just pump the lyrics that you know into google and see what comes up.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

I try to connect my midi conroler to my new pc with windows XP (I use cubase)
In windows 98 this was not a problem
Now I have no sound
WHAT TO DO ????????????????????????????????

Re: HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure your new sound card supports MIDI? they are pulling that out of a lot of cheap on board sound processors in the Windows machines to cut down on cost, increasing profits. If you have a MIDI controller in your sound card try to find the drivers on microsofts site.

mp3 files- appear fine but not recognized by burning software

some of my downloaded mp3 files are not recognized as valid by my conversion/writer software (HP myCD). The files are recognized and play well in Media Player as 192 bitrate and stereo. However my tag editor doesn't pick up the info and I cannot convert them to wav for CD. Is there really a problem with the file format, or is it in the ID some how? if so, can I change it?
Thanks,
