HOW DO I RECORD TAPES?

I have sounblaster live! value and roxio ez cd creator 5 platinum. I want to know what i have to hook up and how i hook up to the soundcard to record cassette tapes into mp3s?

1. Connect the headphone socket of you cassette to the line in on the
sound card
2. Record each track as a WAV file using a suitable piece of software
(have a look in the software section).

3. Convert the WAV files to MP3 using a suitable piece of software.

It's that simple.

Andy's pretty much right but you can avoid the problem
of exceeding 0 db (this causes audio distortion) on
your PC if you have a Line Out socket you can use on
your cassette player instead of the headphone socket.

I want to get my Sibelius stuff onto cd, but my writer needs it to be wav. or mp3. Please can someone tell me how to get my Sibelius stuff converted so I can make cds? The Sibelius people told me to look on the site, but as my site licence is an educational one of several, I have not got the box for the cd. Thanks.

well you should be able to export a wav file in Sibelius surely??? You will be using your soundcards General Midi soundchip nodoubt for sounds? Either that or a software soundcard? Well if Sibelius does not export a .wav file u can open up a simple audio editor while Sib is running and press record. The audio u hear should be recorded to the editor then u can export this as a wav file. U will need to look at your soundcard settings + possibly unmute 'what u hear' or 'PCM' something like that. Only wav files will burn to CDRs (make an audio CD) for playback in a CD Player.

Roland XV-3080 with Logic 4.5

I am using logic 4.5 with a roland xv-3080 synth but i can not seem to select the sound patches as you normally would in logic. I have to set all the logic instruments to GM Device 1-16 then set the patches manually on the roland.

There must be an easier way !

midi not functioning properly

I have bought the software for converting Wav
to Midi and MP3 to Wav. But, my issue is
that when I make a Midi file from
a compelete song that has 6 to 10
instrument or channels, it only put
all the voices in one channel and makes
annoying noise and it just has too muany notes in one track with big intervals that are not playable. I mean it mixes
\voice, Guitar, Keyboard and Drun all
together. How can I sequesnce the midi
file, so it will put every instrument
in a track or sequence and make it like
the Midi files that are already on the web?

this info should be in the programs documentation. If your getting the best job it can do (it is a difficult process wav>midi) then u will have to open the midi file in a midi sequencer and try to rearrange the various notes to seperate midi tracks + assign different instruments to these tracks. U would then export the new midi file + it will play on a player properly. www.sonicspot.com is a great site to look for a midi sequencer. The free one Quartz Audio Master would be very usefull for this.

midi sequencer - Quartz Audio Master is freeware!!!

hi d,

what u need is amidi sequencer. They actually usually sequence audio too so an audio/midi sequencer. Quartz Audio Master is a #very# good free!!! a/m sequencer. You will get 16 midi + 4 audio tracks on it and it looks very nice + nicve to work with. For sounds you would use either your soundcards builtin midi chip?? Or if not a software midi synth/player like Yamaha SXG-50. I think taht's it. But with one of these you may experience a long latency (time from hitting keyboard till u hear sound). If u not using a keyboard no prob. If uu are u really need to get a soundcard like a soundblaster Live! which has quality midi chip + quality sound output. To render midi track/multi tracks to wav u first record all the midi tracks onto an audio track of the sequencer - press play/record simple!! Then u have a wav file there to export. Good luck!!

Beginner REALLY still needs help

Ok, I'll make this real simple for those of you who insist on turning me on to windows software. I'm on a Mac as in Apple (not IBM, not PC, NOT windows) in other words I can't use software that isn't written for a Mac. I'm a begginer at digital recording. I've done 4-track TAPE recording but not digital. I have ProTools 5.01 (the free version), I have a Teac 4 channel mixer with meter bridge, I have a Power PC 8500 that's been accelerated to a G3. Although it seems to be a simple question I'm having a hell of a time getting an answer. How do I get sound from the source (guitar, keyboard [not midi], voice, etc) into my Mac? Can I use the 4 channel mixer? I know about Sound Manager and I know about the RCA jack in the back of the computer. Thanks

Heres another mac-user. Im not working with protools but cubase and i think it makes no difference on putting the sounds into the comp.
First, if you have a free version of protools by means of demo it probably cant import files. If it can you have to get your outputs from the 4track into your inputs of the comp. Then you go to your internal soundinputdevice of the comp to put it on external Audio to receive. for the protools the same in your audioappliances. Put your monitor on in the mixing desk to receive

i not know mac!!!
but - if u have a soundcard?? then simply plug the stereo out into the mic/line in of yer card. u may need a cable with big jack on one end + small jack on other. i think the cube has no line in but yours should have. set mixer to high + line in to about 3 to get low noise signal. u may have to look at your recording settings to activate line in. if u no line in u can get a USB 'breakout box' plug yer mixer into this = the mixer into usb port.

Converting Cassettes to CD

I have a lot of books on tape that I would like to record onto CD. I've tried using my computer, converting the cassette to WAV files and then burning onto a CD but haven't been successful, mostly frustrated. Is there an inexpensive way of converting cassettes to CD? Can I hook up a CD burner to a Tape Deck? If so, which version of the CD burners out there will do this? HELP!

What's the problem? The way you've done it should work, so there's
obviously something else that's stopping it working.

First thing is, when you've burnt the WAV files onto the CD,
can you see them using Windows Explorer (they should be seen as
CDA files). Also, have you closed the CD at the end of the burn
process?

Details of your system and the software you're using would be
helpful.

2 things must be your problem
1 - u not putting FL into song mode from pattern mode before exporting
2 - u not creating a pattern sequence/song in the playlist window
u could be doing both!!

problem with KORG and MIDI Sequencer

I am trying to get a KORG 800 II keyboard to interface with a P.C. runing a Cakewalk Sequencer .aaaaaaaathe P.C. talks back and forth to the keyboard with no problem .But all the instruments in the standard "General Midi " are wrong.For example the Grand Piano might be a Claranet or the acordian might be a french horn .I think the Korg has all its music definitions as non standard in ram and I have to find a way to tell it to use a standard "GM MIDI" definition chart . Anabody out there know about KORG.
