Actually music is about the only thing old Ataris
are good for - they had MIDI built in and were the
starting point for Steinberg.

I used to use Cubase 1.0 on an Atari 1040 STe.

Anyway - the solution is simply to format your
floppy disks in your PC as 740k (single density)
disks and save your files onto them which your
Atari will read because they use IBM format.

MIDI to CD

A simple question with a big answer. At the moment, the big three programms are Cubase VST, Logic Audio and Cakewalk Sonar. They are all professional standard midi sequencing and audio arranging/editing packages used in home and pro studios. They cost a lot (although are often availabe by other means or cheaper cut down versions.) If you want something more instantly gratifying you could try Acid Pro of Fruity Loops which are loop based composition tools but not what you would call Pro packeages. I use Cubase VST 5 and its absolutely superb and really powerful. Cubase is good because there are many effects pluggins and software instruments available which integrate with it, many of which are free (on this site for example).

IN MY OPINION I THINK THAT LOGIC AUDIO IS ONE OF THE BEST PROGRAMS IT MAY NOT BE THE EASEST PROGRAM TO USE BUT I CAN SAY THIS MUCH ONCE YOU LEARN IT YOU WILL NEVER LOOK AT ANOTHER MUSIC SOFTWARE AGAIN. playback of Adaptec CD recording skips on CD player

I copy (direct CD) tracks onto my Philips CDRW (800 series) from my computer CD player and when I play the new recorded CD on my home CD player, it skips. I make sure I do not have any programs running in the background while I am recording..but I still get skips in the recorded CD. What am I doing wrong? (Microsoft Windows 98 / 2nd edition / GenuineIntel / 376 MB

How old is your home CD player? Some older models have trouble reading
CD-R and CD-RW discs. Have you tried the discs on
anyone elses CD player?

You can also try the following:

1. Stick to well-known brands. I've had problems with TDK discs skipping
recently. Maxell discs...no problem

2. If you aren't already, try using 650MB discs instead of 700MB

3. DicectCD isn't really suitable for making audio CDs. Use EasyCD Creator
or one of the other programs which are designed for this task.
There are several shareware/freeware programs in the software
section.

It doesn't work that way. Midi is control information to tell a device equipped with Midi what to do. It would tell a synthesizer what notes to play, how hard and for how long etc etc... There is no audio information associated with it.

The general way to record Midi to Audio is to get the midi to play a synth and then record the audio output from the synth itself.

splitting a song in to two or more parts while burning a cd

I have produced two CDs of my daughter's songs. Now I want to make a demo CD using these two CDs to explore the possibility of selling the same commercially. For this I need a software which can split the songs so that I can record a part of the song on the sample CD.

Ron,

sounds like you could do with a compressor to smooth out the sound. If you want less attack then set the compressor to fast attack and long release and a ratio of about 3:1. There are quite a few available on sharewaremusicmachine.com. ANother good one is AIPL Warm Tone which is a tube warnth emulator. Also, a little light distortion can help to 'warm up' a sound.
Compression sounds like the best tool though.

CDRWin - kernel32.dll Error

Several times when i try to backup a disc, i don't get any cdr window popping up saying "operation successfully completed" nor "Error WRITE...." ; rather, i get a window popping up saying "CDR win has caused an error in kernel32.dll. Cdr Win will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer."
Well, i've deleted and reinstalled the program severals times as well as restarting computer. But this does not solve the problem.
ANy ideas?

I'm not really surprised, since it's practically impossible.
Almost every program on the planet probably accesses Kernel32.dll
at some time.

There are two options: Contact the people who wrote the software
and see if they're aware of the problem, or rinstall Windows

There is an option "Remove vocals". Simply load in a file and use it. Just don't expect good results.

If the "Remove Vocals" option didn't work then that
is because it often doesn't work, and also cannot
work in many cases.

where does one start?

i would like to know what software i should be using:
I want to be able to use a program to produce my own trance, house, future funk etc etc etc. but i would also like to be able to use my own samples which i make in the bedroom with my guitar and bass and bongo and congo's. Is there anyway i can record that directly using my computer and then upload it to mix into to tracks i create. Should i be using a combination of software or is there something that will cover all my needs.

I THINK THE BEST PLACE TO START IS WITH LOGIC AUDIO. I'VE BEEN USING LOGIC FOR OVER 5 YEARS TO PRODUCE DANCE MUSIC (TRANCE) WITH LOGIC U ARE ABLE TO DO EVERY THING IF YOUR THINKING OF BUYING IT I RECOMMEND U BUY THE PLATINUM VERSION THAT IS IF U HAVE THE BUDGET. what remixer should I use

I used to do a bit of electroacoustical music at university(four years ago) and I remembered using the program soundedit 16....I don't think I can use that anymore....anyone know of a similar program that I can use with windows 98 (2nd version) ? Try Nero Burning Rom.
This nice programm can burn your sets and cut it in pieces so you can here it just like an official mixed cd.

Convert them to WAV files. They are interchangeable with CDA.
Have a look in the software section.
