Hey Mat: The first thing you need is software to record into, there's a lot a stuff out there so check out some demos on this site under multitrack recording, sequencing or editing. A good editing program like Cool Edit 2000 is not a bad place to start because you'll just be dealing with stereo tracks, and will be able to get a feel for pc recording AND a good editing program is something you will always use. Next a good soundcard,SoundBlaster works with most programs but if you start doing any serious recording you'll eventually upgrade. You have to make sure your software is compatible with your soundcard. This means that there are drivers available to let your software "talk" to your soundcard. If you have a mixer you can plug this into the line in on your soundcard, enable record in your program and start recording. Check ya later

I am searching for a system which puts the sheetmusic on a screen (terminal), for big band. This means 18 screens and every screen must display the part for the particular plyer.
I know Harry Connick jr. has such a system for his big band.

I am a student , major in Industrial Design
My thesis project is to design a digital sheet
music display,but I need some information
about when a musician play an instrument
what do they need? not just a 18" screen.

Freehand Systems, Inc. has just come out with a digital sheet music reader. This is the first of it's kind that is a stand alone viewer.

EXS24 Problem!

I can´t get my EXS24 run. I have Logic installed, Zone release, but EXS24 always wants a CD... I have a file called "EXS-ES-EVP88 Authorizer 1.3.SIT"
Where do I have to do with this file??

You know I have the same issue with this Logic stuff alone with VM-3100 pro Roland. I was told by the pro's at my music store that you have to have the platinum version of Logic audio off the CD it will work. I will gettting a copy of this disk soon and I will check it out. I have a 66key, 8 sound Yamaha keyboard with MIDI out/in and a PC with soundcard that will allow MIDI in. What is a good software package that will allow me to record a bass track (electric, acoustic & synth), a drum track or tracks(emulate a complete set, cymbals, snare, toms & kick), chord structure and melody tracks and then mix them all together from my PC? I want to be able to lay down all tracks individually from the Yamaha keyboard (connected via MIDI to the PC - no microphone inputs). Then mix them on the PC to make a complete song. What is a good software package to do so, and that is easy enough for a novice on a Win98 machine (500Mhz/128MB)to get decent results? Please let me know.

you may be misunderstanding. If u connect keyboard via midi cable only data will go to pc NOT any of the sounds from your keyboard. This data would be turned to sound by the soundcard using it's midi sound chip. To record your keyboard sounds you need to use an audio line in from keyboard line out.

You'll need a sequencer for the job. there are many around why not try staring out with a free one. Quartz Audio Master is very good. Cubasis is a good relativly cheap one, there is also the Logic range and Cakewalk too. Your computer would be totally acceptable. You should have a good soundcard like a SoundBlaster Live! for good quality recording + playback.

I am not at all concerned about using any of the sounds coming from the music keyboard. I want the PC to serve as the sound generating unit. I only need the music keyboard to provide the human interface. The software package will need to have all the facilities to emulate musical instruments, like piano, synthesized keyboard, bass, drums and cymbals...would be nice to have saxophone, trumpet and full orchestra and/or string emulation as well. The second thing needed is track record capability so that I can play each individual part (bass - chording - rhythm - melody - through the music keyboard) and then mix them into one composition in like a post production. CD Burner Software

Can someone help me....I have been trying to use the new CD Burner I got, and I have been trying to use the REAL JUKEBOX in addition to CD WRITER software. I have wasted so many disks, because after I think I have songs recorded, it gives me an error message. It only takes on about 6 songs. I know it has to be able to hold more than that. And it will not play back songs on the disk if I try to play them on a regular cd player... HELP

Hey, what error does it give you?
Does it have an option for burn CD track at once or disk at once?
If so, use disk at once for music, track at once is only used for data

There can be many reasons for this type of problem
so the best way to solve it is to contact the technical
support people from both software companies. You will
find their contact details by looking at the software
"Help" menu.

With all this new software available now
...is it possible to remove 6 string guitar( lead, rhythm )and vocals from recordings...e.g.. c/d's.
My reason being it would be excellent for learning songs, backing tracks..any help here..?
the type of music i am referring to is blues beats.

Unfortunately there is no software that can remove
particular parts of a song.

Hello. I need your help. I made a the sequence in Cubase 5 r1 and suddenly he presented for me a mistake, I could not save the file. In fact, the file was already saved, then I opened it again but it appeared an error message, where he asks for me to save again and to restart the program, however it doesn't work. What does. Not with Freeware you don't have a chance. It's a long process with several conversions and this makes the end result unreliable, but:

Convert the mp3 to wav with a decoder (plenty of Freeware ones of these)

Convert the WAV to MIDI with DigitalEar, Akoff, amazingmidi, intelliscore and others on this site.

Then your notation software will support the import of MIDI, including Sibelius

The WAV to MIDI is the hardest bit.

Roger's solution will only work if the MP3 is a
recording of a single instrument, otherwize it is
not possible to convert a full audio recording with
multiple instruments into MIDI.

midi instrument wont record in cubase vst 5.0

It worked fine the other day. I cant figure out what is wrong. it plays old midi files back fine, but i cant get the "in" light on the transport bar. what is the deal? anyone pleas help. i have a deadline and have been trying to solve this for 4 hours.

lp recording on apple titanium laptop

I hope someone can help...I want to burn copies of analogue lp,s. I use an apple titanium laptop and cannot work out how to connect the pre amp to the soound card as the only access to same is via usb or firwire connection to same. Is there such a thing as an rca to usb/fire wire cable? Or is it necessary for the turntable to be run through a separate d/a converter prior to the lap top. The program I want to use will be Roxio Titanium 5.
Hope I'm not wasting your time but as you probably already know I'm new to this business.

I wish I had your laptop.
Firstly Apple have an AV cable which plugs into your USB port. It has composite video and RCA stereo audio input. You will have to take the pre-amp outputs and connect them into that AV adaptor. Roland and Stereo Link also have a great audio interface and you can find out more thru the threads at macfixit and powerbookcentral both are great sites. Of course add http:// before and .com after.
Now you will want to eliminate the scratches and the noise so if the Toast filter is not OK then Fusion Vinyl or Raygun will plug into Cubase or Peak respectively. I hope this helps.

audio editor or software sampler???

hope someone can help me.....

I use cakewalk 8 in my studio setup. With my music i use many samples, i have created libraries of samples and put them all into soundfonts using vienna (No problems here)..

Now my dilemma when using my soundfonts within cakewalk (not a problem again)... When i come across a sample that i want to edit, I want to be able to play my sequenced track and edit the sample at the same time (so cakewalk is playing my track in the background and I want to hit different keyboard keys and to edit the samples start and stop points all while my track is playing, so can i just find the exact part of the sample i want to use within the track). When i have found the part i want i can just save the edited wav and re-import and save to my sounfont and then i've got the exact sample i want to play in cakewalk...

So.....Do i really need a software sampler as the editing i will be doing is minimal (just finding the best start and stop points and the best pitch to use... or is there an audio editor that i do this..

I've purchased mellosoftron this can to the job but is very messy and unstable.. Is there other audio editors that has midi features like this I can purchase

I've look at many audio editors such as cool edit, wavelab, awave studio, sampled etc...All have the editing features but not the midi features for me to play a wav via midi keyboard and edited on the fly..

Hm..I had a similar problem with a terratech card, but I just had to press "Update" in the "Device manager" (Win95-98) a couple of times. Each time it was lost.
