imacs with firewire

Could anyone recommend some firewire-based hardware that would allow me to input live vocals and instruments for multitracking and sampling on my imac? it's a 600 mhz g3 with a firewire jack and I thought there must be some alternative to the mini jack. It doesn't have to be pro, but a "high-end consumer" kind of thing would be great.

Firewire audio interfaces have taken some time to come into being. They have been around for some time now but it seemed up until recently, that most preamp and audio interface companies, other than MOTU, have backed off from taking the protocol on full swing so there has been a limited selection.

It's ownly quite recently then that the units have become better and more affordable. For example, the very interesting M-Audio Firewire box that has just been release at NAMM.

Should be in the shops by march and is easily the cheapest firewire audio interface on the market...

I have heard good and bad. If I had the money and wanted one that work AND needed a decent audio application, I would buy the M-Box. I would probably wait for the M-Audio firewire box though.

Edirol stuff has a reliable edge to them. My friend at the local music shop claims that they never seem to get any complaints about them... Never used on myself so it's all speculation..

I am using a Kenton Control Freak Studio and I was wondering where I could get a list of controller numbers for Cubase, Grm tools, sonic foundry etc. Im hoping there is a website somwhere with big lists of them! I know there in the manuals but the studio im at doesnt have any, any ideas?

I don't think what you're looking for actually exists.
You are essentially looking for an unpacker.

The concept of Refills is a way of distributing sounds without extracting individual sounds from the files.
(I assume for copyright reasons)

Try the propellerhead forums...

pops and crackles using dmx6 fire 2496

I am getting pops crackles delays and generally ropey performance from my terratec dmx6 fire 2496 sound card in windows me - I'm using an ECS k7s5a mainboard, amd xp1500 cpu, 256mb pc 133 sdram, geforce 2 mx 400 agp card, no pci devices, just the sound card and onboard lan card - I have formatted and reinstalled windows several times, fiddled around in bios, all to no avail.
After installing windows, I run the mainboard drivers, lan, graphics card (downloaded latest fron nvidia) and terratec - Even cd audio playback stutters and pops -

The same sort of thing happened with my soundblaster 1024 and I thought it was that but I am totally stumped
I have noticed much lower latency in vst applications, but general windows and game performance is slow stuttery and scratchy in the extreme...

Any ideas out there ?, help please ....

Removing vocals or any instrument from a stereo mix is covered in the FAQ's that you are expected to read before posting on this forum...

Put very simply, convert the MP3 to WAV and then use Yogen Vocal Remover or the AnalogX version and you will end up with a result of some sort. Then convert the WAV back to MP3. Easy! But getting off one's bum and reading the FAQs is recommended :P

ASIO

I have used Sonar and Cakewalk for many years along with an EMU APS. It died recently and I bought a Soundblaster Extigy Platinum Plus w/ firewire. I am new to ASIO terminology and was wondering if I switched to another sequencer/audio recording software
I could record 8 channels or more at once?

It might just be me, but I don't really understand the question. The Audio/Soundcard has specific hardware offerings that can be used by any software application that supports the card either directly or via ASIO..

The way I see it is, an ASIO driver is the middle man between a computer operating system (and/or it's applications) and a hardware audio interface.

i just signed up for mp3u membership. i recieved e-mail with user and password to keep for my files. when i try to log in, i am told my password is invalid and i can't open mp3u. i would like to get in so i can learn this membership and how it works. can anyone tell me how to let this site know that there is a problem with logging in? i know that i am putting in my password exactly as i did when i signed up. i don't want to pay for something if i can't use it. please help. thank you

I am also a victim of MP3U. They charged my credit card. But I cant open their file.

When I browsed the internet, I found out that you can dowload KAZAA for free!!!

All you have to do is go to download.com or visit their website at Kazaa.com
