Preserving old LPs and cassettes
I'm extremely new to this whole thing, so this is might be a stupid question, but...I have just connected my home stereo to my computer (Windows 98) and would like to burn all of my old albums and cassettes. I have MusicMatch Jukebox which allows me to do this, but doesn't allow me to get rid of the 'static' that comes along with LPs. I'm on a strict budget, so paying for a program is out of the question at this point, but I know there's got to be a free program out there that will let my fix this. Any suggestions? Please email me... Thanks for your help with such a basic problem! And Happy Holidays! :)
Re: Preserving old LPs and cassettes
Try going to the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/">front page</a> and look in the audio restoration section. Also, a lot of audio editors have clean-up facilities. Good luck. I can't think of any freeware, but you will find 30-day trials that you can use.

Karaoke Software
I don't know if you can help me, but I thought I would try, :)
I am looking for some kind of Karaoke Software, that will allow me to play my Karaoke MP3s, and record my voice while doing it. I have found a bunch of MP3 Karaoke Players, but none have the option of recording my voice along with the music with it.

You could possibly have what is called a ground loop. That is an unbalanced ground in one of your AC outlets.
If you are recording from your stereo system and you have cable hooked up to it.
The cable is probably the cause. Try disconnecting your cable before you record.
The noise or buzzing will probably disappear.

Re: STOP THE BUZZING!!!!
It could be noise coming from your hard drive. I know my computer does the same. It helps to smash your fists into the screen, i know this helped mine.

Re: STOP THE BUZZING!!!!
I hear that it is the computer noise. I have the same thing happening and the other day a producer told me that I need to upgrade my sound card or get an external audio interface. Computer recording is becoming more and more useful to me so I'm going to invest and give it a shot.

single MP3 track splitting software?
I'm looking for software to burn a long MP3 onto CD that will allow me to split the single track at specific custom time points on the CD. Necessary for burning downloaded dj sets since I'd like them to not be just one 70 minute track on the CD. Don't know if there's anything out there that can do this, but if anyone knows of a program with this option I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks!
Well, this might help....
i dont know of a program that does that specifically but...
if u were to open the file in any wav file editor (Acoustica 2.1, etc) you can then cut each section and save them as seperate wav files.
there are tons of mp3 to wav programs out there to convert the files.
good luck!

MIDI ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL CONVERTER
has anyone got one so i can play my s900 sampler with my simmons pads-is that the best thing to use? thanx
Re: MIDI ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL CONVERTER
It sounds to me like you're trying to use the Simmons to trigger sounds from the S900.
You won't need an ADC for this. What you need to do is set it up so that each pad triggers
a different sample. Whether you can do this depends on the Simmons kit you've got.
As for a MIDI analogue to digital converter? I don't think such a thing exists. If it did,
all it would do is convert an analogue signal into a digital one (i.e. one half of a
sampler).

new fx plugin
I've some fresh news from a french friend.
Ohm Force (http://www.ohmforce.com) completed Hematohm, and it should be available in the coming days !
For those innocents who don't already know their Frohmage, OhmBoyz and Predatohm, Ohm Force is a french crew that creates killing effects. There are of these people who develop creative softwares that keep pushing the limit of computer music.
What i've heard about this frequency shifter let me imagine it'll be terrific.

Should I buy Band in a Box, Cakewalk, or Finale
We just bought a MIDI keyboard and would like to connect it to the computer, mainly for the purpose of the children playing songs they created and then being able to print them out.
But I am clueless about what to buy!! Cakewalk is much cheaper, but I don't really know what the difference is between all these. Any help you can give would REALLY be appreciated.
Re: Should I buy Band in a Box, Cakewalk, or Finale
PrintMusic by the same people is pretty simple. Most all of the notation software require some predefined settings.
Midi out to the hyperscribe tool and it is not that bad.
Re: Should I buy Band in a Box, Cakewalk, or Finale
My experience with Finale has not been pleasing. It makes the basic
music notation functions too complex, notation entry is inconsistent,
and the documentation really sucks. (In fact, "suckware" is the right
category for Finale because you have to keep up-grading).
Its' only plus is an effective, albeit neurotic user forum. Try a demo
of Sibelius. It has very few issues.
Cakewalk is "overkill" for your purposes. Do a search on "score notation," and
you will find free ones that are some much easier to use because the author
used the "KISS" principle: "keep it simple stupid."

Buring Powerpoint Presentations with music
I burnt an autorun powerpoint show to CD with
about 11 different wav files to be played at various
times throughout the presentation. Once the wav files
begin playing, they break-up, hanging up the slides
when it happens. They were set to play across a number
of slides. What is happening?
Re: Buring Powerpoint Presentations with music
: Try converting the tracks to mono or lowering the sample rate. Your probblem sounds like the size of the file is too large for the CD to cope with along side graphics. This is a common problem.
Good luck

Download failed
I downloaded the software to convert CD music to mp3 but when I tried to install it it poped up an error that said it could not find the file .DLL WS2_32.DLL
I need something so I can play the music off of my CD's on my web site. Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for your time. Buddy Allen
Re: Download failed
You can get hold of ws2_32.dll from http://www.uforesources.com/dlldownload.html
Put the file in your windows/system directory and see if it works okay.

Stereo recording-mono output?
I have cubase vst 3.5 and a sounblaster live audio card. I can record audio in stereo on the audio card on the p.c and play it back in stereo, but when i record stereo in cubase form an external source it only plays in mono? I have selected a stereo audio track (track1) and left the following track open(track 2)which is selected to output any.Upon opening the stereo recording it can be seen that the wave lengths very showing that it has recorded the stereo input but it still will sound mono when played back. Am i going mad or is there a genuine problem please help?
Re: Stereo recording-mono output?
Have you tried panning track 1 hard left and track 2 hard right? The panning controls is that little green line in a black rectaingle box above the faders. I hope that was the problem. I went mad for the same reason too untill a friend showed me where the panning control was.

Real Player...
Sadly, it's a Real Player document. Some of these can infact be MP3's I have discovered although Real.com want you to only be able to play these (mp3) documents with their player which is ropey to say the least.
Depending on the size of the document, it can be anything from a URL link to a stream right over to the audio information itself.
The short answer therefore is to download RealPlayer and let it take over your system. If you can avoid it, I would...

Re: Real Player...
You can download Streambox Ripper.exe for free (I got it from Kazaa ), and it will convert .rm or .ra Real files into .wav files.
You can then of coures convert the .wav's into .cda or MP3 or whatever.
I wish you could do the same with .ram files.
P.S., I also think Real.com sucks, and would advise anyone to stay away from those bastards.

Cubasis VST does not record/play audio
Yesterday I had some troubles with my Sound Blaster Platinum 5.1 and I tried to find out the solution modifying various paramenters. Finally I resolved the problem with the sound card and it works. Unfortunately, while I was "repearing" the card, I must have touched some VST or system parameters and now I have a problem with Cubasis VST that does not record nor play recorded audio tracks. I have already checked the EAX mixer and reloaded the software more times with no result.
Desperately need help.

Hi,
I am not sure I understood you a 100%, but I have Revalver
and I understand it fairly well so maybe I can help.
You sound card should not interfere with Revalver. When you say
feedback, u r talking about noise along with the effect
while u play the guitar? When u open up revalver,
configure it to the right sound card and all. Plug
your guitar to the mic input or the line in input, and
click on LOAD in revalver, unless u want to build
your own stack, but my advise is to leave that for later,
so...click on load, and load a ready preset,
ex. metal, rock, pop, clean, special, etc..
When u load the preset and start revalver, u'll
notice that there's a lot of noise with the guitar
playing and that could be what u meant by feedback.
In that case, I atribute the feedback to a few
reasons. 1. I assume its the demo version that u have. This
is part of the way they insure that you dont use
their software and produce songs without purchasing it.
2. The quality of revalver in general is not that good.
3. Your mic input in your computer could be adding
to the noise, switch to line in.
4. One thing u can do that can GREATLY minimize the noise,
yet take off a little from the distortion, think
of it as a compromise, is to lower the input and output
volumes, espeically the main ones. Just lower it a little bit,
and that should make it much cleaner. I hope that's what u r
asking for. If not, then let me know.

HELP! How do I format blank data CDR's to work in a Pioneer CD r
Anyone know how to format the cheap blank data CD-R's to work in a Pioneer CD recorder (home stereo cd recorder deck)? I want to record all of my old records onto CD with it. The computer data CD-R's are less than 1/4 of the price of the blank music CD-R's and I heard that there's a website somewhere that gives a way of doing this. I'm not worried about the loss of audio quality.
The reason this is a problem is....
...that the Data CD don't hold the SCMS (serial copy management system) code that the music industry insisted was put on every CD that was to work with what they classed as 'Domestic CD Burners'. To my mind, this was a waste of time as everyone was buying CD burners for the computer that were faster (although less reliable and potentially worse audio quality than stand alone audio models) and didn't contain any SCMS restrictions. Consequently, even if you want to make many copies of your own material, the music industry wanted you to pay an amount per audio CD to the performers themselves (again not the performers you are necessarily copying..). This was inforced but the SCMS code on all audio CD's for burning. This is the reason they cost more.
I have a Philips CD880 that I bought in the absence of a computer (at the time) and also for the reason that you could insert an Audio cd (blank) with the SCMS code, wait for the cd burner to realise the code, and then open the door by dragging it open (the motor is off on my model so no damage can be done if done carefully) and replace the CD with any old data CD. Whether this works with your machine or not is the question. Also, the price of audio cd's in England is roughly twice the price of a cheap data CD which isn't so bad depending on how many you are planning on burning.
If this is too much work, then sell it and buy a computer based burner to ease you woes and also to stop giving money to musicians that may have nothing to do with the music that you are burning..

Does steve's Philips CD880 even work with copied audio or data CD's? CD880's were out b4 the advent of the cd burner. My old brick dosnt even play normal CD's well. It keeps on playing too fast like its on permanent forward search/cue.
