converting WAV to MP3

Is there a piece of software out there which converts wav files to mp3 format? IT seems you can do the opposite with Winamp or Cool Decoder, but I want to compress the WAV files I generate with Cubase...

David...yes, there is a wonderful piece of software that will convert wavs to mp3s, with just a right-click of your mouse on the wav! It's really easy, I use it all the time. It's Mr. Shannon's Right-click mp3 program. Just click on the link below, or go to:

lokk on http://www.hitsquad.com there seems to be loads - also I think you may have inadvertently answered my Cubase question - how do you save Cubase files as WAV format - is it an option to 'save as'?

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know if there's any option involved - my Cubase automatically creates WAV files of any audio I record (but not MIDI, of course.
If you want to save MIDI as WAV, you record an audio track of all your MIDI tracks, and that audio track is automatically WAV.

Do you know any specific names of software to convert WAV to mp3??

Cubase 5 file conversion

My son uses Cubase5 - does anyone know of a way of converting Cubase files to CD audio type format - at the moment he records direct from the soundcard output but ideally would like to put it straight on to the built in CD-RW on the p.c.. Have Nero software for burning CD's but presume this would still copy it as a Cubase type file - not an audio one which can be played on a standard music CD - any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tell your son to bring up the "master" faders. Just above the stereo faders is a button that is labled "Export Audio".Its a redish color. When he gets his mix sounding just right, click on that button and a Cubase will mixdown the song to a wave file. Then You can burn it to a CD-R. Hope I was some help to ya. :)

He should follow the instructions above, but if he
is recording from the soundcard output because he
currently only has the demo version then you will
need to buy the full version first.

Can anyone tell me if cubasis has the stretch to tempo function that Cubase has?This is the function where you can drag a waveform peak to a relevent time point on the time bar and the mastertempo will automatically update to the correct tempo

I´ve been working with audio restoration for quite some time. Just bought a copy of Noise Wizard, and it´s great! The declicker just beats everything I have tried before. Problems with Playcenter2

There could be a quick fix to this but I cannot find it. I have been using Creative's PlayCenter2 to listen to my CDs. All of a sudden the software does not seem to realise there is a CD in teh Rom drive. It does not recognise the Audio CD and consequently nothing is played (ie Tracks are not even listed). None of my other players seem to have this problem. Any ideas anyone.

This problem has just occurred for me. Up until now everything running fine, now does not recognise CD player. Did you ever sort your problem out - can't seem to get any sense out of Creative.

COPYING KARAOKE CD'S

Artist Organisation MP3 software

I have lots of mp3s that are the same artist, but with different spelling. i.e. Beatles, The Beatles, Beetles. I would like to find a program that lists similar named artists so that I could synchronise them to all be the same name format. Anyone know of a program that does this?

Modplug Tracker can load IT files and can export to mp3. Its also freeware.

I know the feeling - this really hurts.

The best thing to do is to download the new Win98
driviers for your soundcard and start from there.

effect recording on vs-1680

Can anybody tell me how to record an effect after it has been applyed to a dry track. For example: Let's say you record a dry vocal and then add reverb. I can do this and listen to it during playback, however it does not then record over to a CD. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have one of the first incarnations of the VS880 and I remember finding this confusing myself..

I suspect that our two machines are remotely similar. The real answer is to 'Read the Manual' as it is in there although it might as well be written in Egyptian...'-(

On the Vs880. You have to assign the track effects as 'INSERT Effect' rather than pre- or post-. Scroll right from that option and you should see EFFPREINS. Make sure this is 'ON'. This is the key here as it routes the signal after the FX unit back into the tracks signal path before the record heads (as it were).

The whole system is a bit problematic as many of the effects don't work properly unless they are 'Insert' type Fx. Also, if you apply a reverb to a insert effect, you will more than likely hear all the reverb and no direct signal. You would then have to go to the effects board and adjust the direct vs. effect balance in the effect itself. Get a take wrong in the effects balance and you will have to perform it again... Risky.. ;0)

You can record the take 'dry' to tape' and then bounce the take through an effect to another track. You could then use the virtual tracks to select whether the dry or wet track playing. Fiddlier although safer and more flexible.

Midi in-port

I don´t have a Midi in-port, when I installed Cakewalk I get one-"VVT Piano Driver" (or something) but it doesn´t work. What can I do?
I have an "unknown" soundcard called Ac'97 Soundcard.

AC97 isn't a soundcard. It refers to a sound chip that is on the motherboard. As such, it's impossible to get any MIDI ports. What you'll need is either a "proper" soundcard with a MIDI port (Creative SounBlaster etc.), or a MIDI box with proper 5-pin MIDI plugs.

Hi - Ive got an Apple G3 (b&w) and an Akai s2000. Im Using MESA2 to send all my samples and programs from the Mac to the sampler but it keeps loosing the SCSI connection and i have to restart the Mac. I have an adaptec 2930u SCSI card and ive tried downloading updated drivers and controll panels but no luck - Ive also tried getting AKAI O/S2 but again no luck. Strangely Bias Peak (14daydemo) sends all the samples no problem but i cant save/send programs - Is it likely to be a SCSI problem or somthing with MESA2 - Is there an updated MESA????

Could be the mesa. I have had good success with SCSI (SMDI) dumps from a G4 through Peak to a Yamaha Ex5R. Never tried much else though..

Try using a few braincells and use a search engine. ;-)
Digidesign makes pro tools, if you go to their web site, typing www.digidesign.com you'll find a complete description of their entire product line.

I have certainly managed to copy the vinyl to the hard drive but the playback is appalling and, unless the volume is turned right up, almost inaudible. The advertisements speak very well of the product, so I am sure I am at fault. However,the manual is not the easiest to follow and I am appealing for anybody who has experience of this product for the advice that the manual omits.

The phono cartridge output is to low to lay a good track on the hard disk. You must use a preamp between the phono cartridge and your sound card.
Search on google and find one for about $35 to $40.

I need Advice on equip

Me being from Africa and me wanting to get into recording, izim want to know what he should really purchase for a home studio that will give quality recordings yet wont have to be quickly done away with coz of financial constraints. (Somebody had recommended a 4 track recorder... I am conversant with computers, where should I start, 4 track, 8 track Hard disk, P.c studio), Thanx.
