Cassette Deck output to Computer input
I want to purchase a tape deck that I can connect to my sound card on my PC so that I can record my cassette tapes and convert them to CD. Any products available?
Thanks -- Mike
Re: Cassette Deck output to Computer input
Any! You can use the headphone socket, or for the more expensive units, you can use the phone sockets

Generally you will get an unattenuated signal from RCA jacks- look for a tape deck that has them. An unattenuated signal means you won't have to work quite as hard to get the signal level right (one less control) and you will eliminate one possible source of noise.
Make sure you plug into the line in jack on the sound card, not the mike jack.
Signal Conversion
Andy's right, you can just plug the output of your tape deck (or the amp it's connected to) right into the back of your computer either through the 1/4 inch jack, or through the left/right RCA connectors (if your soundcard has them) - as long as it's the one marked "input"...
if you get a lot of line noise or a nasty 60-cycle hum (usually that comes when going back out the computer to a tape deck/external recorder) then you can think about picking up a little transformer (no not an autobot or decepticon) that will drop out any extra signal and clean up your transmission... usually about $40-$70 avaliable at most major music stores (that carry computer-music related products)...

Hp Cd Burner How do I make it work
Hi. Why does it only test up to 50%. It won't burn songs, I've tried everything (troubleshooting) Is there maybe something I haven't. I've cleaned the c.d's, the burner, turned off screensaver, all programs and other stuff. What else could I try. I am also pretty sure it is connected correctly. Please someone help me out on this.
Re:
Some shareware CD burning programs limit burning time.
A fast CD-R working with a slow hard disk, results in buffer underruns.
If it is a SCSI, you should check for latest Adaptec ASPI drivers (Some Op.Systems don't need it).
System settings are crucial to CD-Rs (confusing virtual memory settings are responsible for buffer underruns)
If these didn't help you should email HP & CD burning software technical support.
You should post details like burning software, PC configuration, system settings summary, general system summary (most of it are available from Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information)...
Re:
Check if your burning software supports the CD-R, get latest drivers, use Disk At Once when burning audio CDs, if all fails, repost with more details...
Re:More info. from arcticwolffe. Thanks
It does support CD-R. It has all the latest drives because it is brand new. Everytime I try to burn a c.d. it stops at 50%.

Error messages
While copying a cd I got an error message that said the cd could not be copied because the speed was not fast enough. looking at the detail it said there was a cd being recorded that was interupted. How do you clear those?
Re:
Your hard disk needs defragmentation, or you tried on the fly copying with an EIDE CD-R (both CD-R & CD-ROM should be SCSI with a fast SCSI adapter to copy on the fly), try ticking Create Image if you have nero.
Re: Error messages
You have to shut down any non-essential programs that run in the background. They take up processing power and may be doing things in the back ground. But you should mention what program you are using. It's hard to help much otherwise.

fruityloops!!!
wanna know what cool sound ya can produce with fruityloops???

Honest Opinion...
You got the genre down pat... some of the tracks on your mp3.com listing are REALLY nice (ultragate, eraser, secret moon) - very good dynamic range, and enough switch-ups to keep a listener interested, and nice use of that sweeping cutoff rave-synth sound...
That said, I think that the kick-bass/kick-bass/kick-bass/kick-bass rythm was not enough to fuel an entire album... that recurring rythm started to turn me off after about 6 tracks... maybe a more complex bassline would offset that... and while your songs were fun to listen to and had a lot going for them, I felt they fell just shy of club-playable status, lack of energy and (I hate to say it) lack of gimmick (which is a strong part of why any song gets played by djs)... your songs are cool, but there's a billion artists doing the same thing on the market right now...
I also noticed you recycled a lot of ambient sound and drum fills between songs, which unfortunately makes them "all sound the same" to a certain extent...
but don't get me wrong, you're doing a GREAT job overall, just some thoughts from one guy who cares enough to respond with an opinion...
BTW - what do you use for your synth sounds? plugins for fruity, or rebirth, or a seperate machine? and if it's software, what do you use as a controller? you really get some great synth sounds and sweeps in your style...
thanx for listening:theory

What cables do i need so i can record wave instead of midi on my
anyone can helps me out?
Re: What cables do i need so i can record wave instead of midi o
: anyone can helps me out?
It depends on what kind of output jacks you have on your keyboard and what kind of input jacks you have on your soundcard. A lot of keyboards use 1/4 inch phone jacks, one for the left side and one for the right side then if you were going into a soundblaster soundcard the other end would terminate in an 1/8 inch stereo mini phone plug. Anyway, you need to determine what kind of jacks you have and get the appropriate cable.
Re: What cables do i need so i can record wave instead of midi o
I guess you mean you want to sample the sounds from your keyboard. Try connecting the headphone socket of the keyboard to the line in of the soundcard.

atari to pc convertors for midi files
i've written loadsa tunes on my old atari(mega st) and now use a pc. Both run on cubase variations, i hear that there is a program that'll fool your pc into thinking that it's a pc. True? if so where can i get a copy?
please help!!!
I'll sell you one...
I have a whole host of programs for fooling your PC into thinking it's a PC... but they aren't cheap... hehe....
Does your Atari ST still work?? If so, you could simply save the songs as Midi files and then save them onto a DD (double sided, single density disk) that the PC can read. The atari will read a PC formatted floppy but the PC never bothered to read the atari one (or anything much else at that time...). If you format a DD 720k floppy on the PC, then the atari should be able to write a Midi file to it. The PC should be able to read this although don't count on it. It used to work for me many many years ago. Import the midi file into cubase and it should work. If you have any problems reading it, then try saving in different midi file formats (0 or 1) although I can't remember which way around they go.... er...
There was an Atari ST emulator for the PC at one point, don't know if it's still around though... Worth a look at the Atari software on this site though...!

-----------------------------
What the heck is "seasound Soloist" ?
Well, you need at least a "midi interface" to connect your keyboard to your computer. There a lot out there - you'll probabaly be OK with 2 "ins" and 2 "outs". Midiman makes a good one with a USB connection (assuming your computer has USB jacks).
Also, you need a "Software sequencer" - maybe "Seasound soloist" is a sequencer. You also possibly need software that lets you record actual sound coming from a microphone or guitar.
Frankly, I would suggest you get Cakewalk Express 8, it's only $29 and you can download it from here : http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/XP/XP8.html -
Cakewalk is relatively user friendly and will introduce you to a lot of concepts without spending a lot of money.
Lastly, search the internet for sites that teach you basic Midi theory and computer recording.

synchronize fruity and rebirth...
does someone know how it works??? or do i need additional software to synchronize fruityloops and rebirth???
pleeeeaaaase help me!!!!
additional software required:
To be able to sync two MIDI based applications on one computer, you need a piece of software to act like the physical MIDI throughput you would get by connecting two machines with a MIDI cable...
there's one out there called MIDIYoke (haven't used it, don't know jack about it other than what it supposedly does) that should be able to let you map a connection between the two applications just as though they were two external MIDI devices...
If you're using SMTPE timecode (which I think one supports but the other doesn't) then you're screwed (for the exact same reason that was in the previous parenthesis), but you should be able to get an unstable-at-best connection between the two applications using MIDI and a program like that MIDIYoke or whatever...
best of luck,
theory

covert mp3 to cda.
could you tell me how to covert mp3, avi, ram... to cda (cd audio track)? also how to covert mpeg files to the format that is playble on dvd. thank you.
Re: covert mp3 to cda.
If you check out the software section you'll find lots of progs that will convert the various formats. Blaze Media Pro will convert to CDA, but unless you have a CD player that ccan read CD Text, then converting them to WAV format is sufficient.
You'll probably have to look at one of the many DVD sites for converting MPEG to DVD.

DJ work
I have read the discriptions for many software packs but have not found specific info on the features I am looking for.
what I am interested in is aprogram that would play from a playlist but if someone wanted a specfic song it could be queued to interupt the playlist as the next selection then revert back to the play list. It would be ideal to have a user interface much like Digital Juke to insert the on demand songs.
Thanks for any help anyone can proved.

Re: DJ work
Try something like my programm: MP3 Tunes
http://www.mp3machine.com/software/MP3Tunes/
It almost has your needs, because it's uses drag&drop so you can place a selected song right after the playing song.
There are more programms with this feature like:
MP3 Stocker, DeeJaySystem MKII (still under development).

hello music
I want to have a program for mix songs and to make electronic music
Re: hello music
Try PowerTracks from PGMusic.com. You can do your mixing as you write, or when you're done writing.
V. 8.0c has a CD burner program built in.
Now I have to admit that I've been using this program for a while, and I still don't know how to use all the 'bells and whistles' that are resident in the program; but, I can write faster with this program than I can with a pencil and a stack of manuscript paper. If you save everything you write, you can go back to it in a couple of days/weeks/months (your choice) and change anything or everything. PGMusic is good people, and they're MUSICIAN FRIENDLY. They are open to chriticism, and, if they feel you have a valid point, they will change the whole program.

2 turntables to pc
can anyone know how to connect 2 turntables to a pc
and using pc as a dj mixer
Re: 2 turntables to pc
You'll need two RIAA pre-amps (unless the turntables already have them fitted) and a soundcard with two line-level audio inputs (if there is one). Then you'll need some software to mix them together (if there is such a thing).
