BPM software
Hi.
I believe by tempo your referring to the songs BPM (Beats Per Minute). If you go to www.hitsquad.com/smm/ and type in "BPM" it will pull up several software programs (most free and very easy to install and use).
Hope this helped!
LONDON MUSIC SOFTWARE
Hi Ive just emigrated to London from South Africa and am looking for music software companies in London where your products are sold. I'm looking for employment in sales/training on your products as I'm quite a fundi on cakewalk, acid pro, soundforge etc so would like to work in this environment.
A few websites/email addresses would be very much appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Encore availability
Is ENCORE being handled by anyone since Passport Design and G-Vox abandoned it? Although Finale is the standard commercial program, Encore is a high-end program is very easy to learn and use. It was so important that Encore2000 and Allegro2000 were programmed to import .enc files. Are there any shareware programs that do the same? Thanks.
Minidisc File Transfer
How do I transfer tracks from my Minidisc to my PC as separate sound files in any format (wav or mp3)?
Easy...
Plug the audio output of the MD to the audio input of the computers soundcard and then download a recording package from this site that will save the stream as a wave file.
Most MD players/recorders has optical SP/DIF outputs so if your computer has a coaxial SP/DIF input, you could buy an optical to coaxial SP/DIF convertor and keep the whole thing in the digital domain...

help me. i need circuit designs used in midi cables from laptop
I do a lot of music on my pc using a midi cable connected to my pc sound card midi port and an external midi device. Porting this music around is difficult. Laptops will do a good job if i can have a midi cable. Laptops do not have a midi/game port. The only option is to use the serial port. I've seen people use a sound canvas with a serial port. I need the design for such a cable.

Posting Content of minidisk on a website
I have a Mac (OS 8.1) and want to upload audio files recorded on a sony md to my website. Does anyone know of any free software I could use to convert from md audio to audio files that can be uploaded (to the site by me) and downloaded relatively easily by people accessing the site on pcs or on macs ?
It's easy...
Hi,
All you need is a program that will record the audio input in your computer. Protools free is a fully blown multitrack program that is available on this site although it might be a bit overboard under the circumstances. Check through this sites file area under Audio Recording and there are some things there that will help. Most of them will do what you want.
Plug the MD output to the mac's audio input. Run the software and record. The app will more than likely off you the audio inputs that are connected to your mac, select the audio input option. Record the music and then Mp3 it as putting uncompressed wave files on your website will not only use a lot of space, but it will ensure that pratically nobody will download such a large file.
Utilities for Mp3'ing can be found on this site also. The Mp3 format is cross platform and will work with any mp3 player on any platform.
Good luck

Re: It's easy...
Thanks for this Steve. Will work on it and post the url when it works.
what software for transcribing
what i am looking for is an mp3 player like winamp etc but with 2 features,
- ability to vary time (time expansion) independent of pitch
- ability to pinpoint a section and repeat it in a loop
of course if there are other features specifically designed for transcribing, all the better.
basically the modern day software equivalent of the old two-speed tape recorder.
hoping to find something commercial grade or close, iow similar featured and production quality as winamp.
I saw a few things around (here) which purported to do it but were definitely not ready for prime time.
LP to CDR
I’m trying to decide between copying my reel tape and LP collection to cd via a dedicated cd burner (Denon CDR/W-1500, not yet purchased) or use my PC (Dual PIII, 256mb RAM, HP CDR/W) to burn to CD. How much does the sound really deteriorate between the two options and in what areas ? I’ve read the faq’s and comments at several sites (very good stuff) but have not seen anyone really endorse one method over another, and what OS(linux, DOS, Msoft)or standalone program (along with apps) would most be truthful to the original recording.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ralph.

Ralph, the critical factors are the connection from the tape deck to the sound card or CDR and the quality of the hardware used to do the analog to digital conversion (ADC). I don't know the specs on the Denon unit so I can't comment on that, but within a PC the OS doesn't matter and the software used is significant only in that some software is better at removing problems than other software. Basically, once it's converted to digital format, most of the damage has been done.
If you care enough about the quality of the result to spend some bucks, and you decide to go with the PC approach, the sound card you choose will be very important. The best ones do the conversion *outside* of the computer's box- computers are very noisy on the inside and it's very hard to get an internal sound card that really filters all of the noise. The cable you use is also important.
Once you get the sound converted to 1's and 0's though, the most you can hope from out of the software is convenience and the ability to clean up after any problems introduced in the earlier stages of the process. A good equalizer in the software is very useful.

I've downloaded a few of the shareware and freeware drum programs, but they only seem to offer pre-set beats. What I'm wanting to find is if they have something out there like you'd find on a music keyboard, whereas you can assign various drum sounds to your pc keyboard (ex: bass drum="shift key", snare="space bar", etc.)? That way you can play in real time using your keys...oh, and I realize you aren't going to be able to do drum rolls and the like in such a system, given the limitations involving rapid key presses on a keyboard and all, but I figured someone had such a sim or at least the option in one of their drum programs to play "real time" on your keyboard. Thanks in advance for any info!

.......
A sampler with a midi sequencer would do you. There are programs and plugins abound.
There are no restrictions for drum rolls with sequencers OR drum machines. If you fingers don't move fast enough then draw them out on a piano roll or slow the track right down until your fingers will play them. The sequencer wont give a hoot...

Karoake software
Hi !
Does any one know the software for recording Karoake songs from an ordinary songs CD?
I want to copy from an ordinary music cd(which has songs in it) to another one eliminating just the tone so that i can sing in place of the tone.
Thanks,
Adi
Re: Karoake software
Hi,
Go to the site http://www.karaokevision.com/ and then to the softwere area.
There you will find some categories, including "VOCAL REMOVERS" - 7 different softwares for download.
I downloaded and tried only the "DART Karaoke" (12MB), which you insert a WAV file with voice and create other WAV file without voices.
Most of the results are acceptables.

Tone??
What do you mean by a tone? Removing any instrument from a mono or stereo mix of a group of instruments is impossible at this time.
If you mean vocal instead of tone then the same applies. Forget it and make the music yourself.

Have good vinyl LP's would like to record onto PC
Have a lot of really good LP's wasting away, how can I record onto PC and then make CD's that will sound good?
sigh...
Plug your record deck into your amplifier. Plug a tape line output from your amplifier to your computers audio input. Go to the file area on this website and download something from the Audio Recording link and record the input from the computer to a wave file. This can be burnt to CD with all burning programs.

VOCAL ELIMINATION
Hi.
First, sorry about the bad english...
I would like to know wich programs make vocal eliminations (take the voice off the song), so I can create karaoke files (without vocal) from my mp3/wav files.
Thank you very much.
Lucia - Brasil
Forget it...
There is no present way of doing this. Ignore the hype...
Steve...R
Re: Forget it...
But.... someone already told me that it does exist (program named DE-VOCAL or something like that). Do you know ?????
Thanks
Lu.
Programs do exist on this site...
But like I said, forget it. Go and try them if you want and you will see for yourself that complete removal of an individual instrument from within a mono or stereo document is impossible at this time...

Vocal Help
I record mostly guitar and I want to do some vocals but they need some help. Does anyone know how to improve vocals without sounding to un natural? Any effects?
I use Cakewalk Metro.
Any info on how would be great.
Thanks.
Thanks!
Thanks. I have a place to start now.
I think my biggest problem with my vocals is a tendancy to sound a bit nasal [besides not being to smooth].
I think learning how to breath is my best bet, because I don't think I'm too off key.
Anyway thanks again.
Heres a link ....
I have the same situation, I can play all the instuments but struggle to sing. I posted a similar question at Audio Forums .com and I received allot of tips and tricks.
http://www.audioforums.com/forums/Forum17/HTML/000728.html
Hope it helps. Also, the other reply said something that I hear allot ...practice, take lessons, do scales, etc. I work on my singing everyday just like I did when I was learning guitar or drums. My goal is a great (or at least good) voice within a year. In the meantime, the software and techniques will help to disguise any vocal shortcomings. But the final goal should be actual singing skill.
Antares.
Antares Autotune is a popular thing indeed for the challenged vocalist and beyond. It's not cheap but it is a pro level VST compatible plugin that will attempt to retune your voice when it strays from a note. It takes some fiddling around with but can work on a whole vocal section if the vocalist isn't too far off in their singing or vibrato.
Other than that, compression is a great forgiver of bad singing/playing and will make your voice sound more controlled. Try any compressor and select a ratio of 4:1 or above on dodgy vocals. Brighten it up with a 5khz boost and chuck in a little reverb with an effect delay relative to the tempo of the song, if that makes sense...! Try some delay but add effects in moderation otherwise it might make it worse
Whilst your trawling through this sort of process, get yourself some instructions of singers breathing techniques that you can do whilst you walk etc... Practice your scales. If you want natural, then this IS the best way.

Re: edit mp3
: hi halo I need help, what program to edit mp3 volume, because I convert some song but the sound too low.

You will need to convert the file to .WAV format first. Then you can use any good wave editor to change the volume. I use RipEditBurn from www.blazeaudio.com.
Re: edit mp3
I believe <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a> will do the job too.

Logic platinum update not working
I recently updated from Logic Platinum 4.6.3 to 4.7 on Mac G4. Nice drop menus and stuff - I like it. BUT. Some of my VST instruments now will not save and just reset to preset 1 and it's basic opening parameters. Old songs with these instrument in also reset to preset 1.
Why is this and how do I combat it?
