which software will slow down my CD's?
Which software can you recommend that will be able to slow down my CD's without ruining the pitch? I'm a musical student and need to hear my music played much slower. Ideally I'd like to be able to download it for free. I heard of the slow speed CD transcriber 1.42 - can you recommend this? I need something really easy to understand!!!
Re: which software will slow down my CD's?

What happened to Midisoft ?
I use Midisoft music writing software and find it excellent. But I can no longer find them on the Web. What happened to them and to their Pauline Sablan who was the best tech support person I ever talked with.

Re: What happened to Midisoft ?
David,
Thank you for your kind remarks! Midisoft changed their name to recordLab in 1999. The company was in the process of changing their focus when the funding dried up and the doors closed in May 2000. A new entity has purchased the voting rights as of April 2001 (see SEC filings at: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1138827/000101968701500051/0001019687-01-500051-index.htm) and moved the company to California.
If you need help with Midisoft or recordLab products you can reach them using this email address: support@recordlab.com
Hope you find this helpful.
With Kindest Regards,
Pauline Sablan
Re: What happened to Midisoft ?
Try this site - maybe they were bought out.....???

Re: What happened to Midisoft ?
I believe they went out of business. They put out some great products, too. I started on MIDISoft Recording Session in the days that a 66 MHz 486DX was hot stuff. It seems a few years ago was when I last saw a MIDISoft product for sale.

Is there a free music notator out there which can cope with classical composition.
Graham
Re: Is there a free music notator out there which can cope with
you will indeed sooner or later want to get some
version of Finale, which has been the professional standard
on Macintosh for probably the last ten years.
They sometimes have a free version around, or shareware,
but i forget what it's called, and i know it's real
big, so you'll need DSL or cable modem to download it.
If you need a quick fix, you can search online for
Lime, which I downloaded myself once on my Mac. It's
real cool and comes with good fonts for screen and printing.
Of course, if you need a program for PC, well, there are
so many of them, unfortunately, I am just not
familiar with them, since I have more experience
with Macs. Also, digital audio composition and
straight up MIDI is so much faster than notation,
that I really almost totally ignore notation.
The other issue is, if you need good notation
software to print up beautiful sheet music, then
you actually might have better luck using a
graphics program that can use layers and objects,
and lines and curves and such.
The advantage is, that you can load up any music font that
you download or copy, and you can also create your own
quick library of musical symbols. You can even import
graphics from a scanner or photo and edit them.
This way, you have total control over the page layout.
If you are really into notation, then you already
know that when writing scores you really gotta know
how to read sheet music. You can print up exactly what
you need to this way, without needing any special commands
to move or stretch bars or anything.
This is a cheating technique, of course, but
the best compositions are just played and recorded.
And the classical masters of notation composition didn't
have fancy computer programs, either.
Don't forget that one deaf composer whose name
I'll so conveniently leave out!
Re: Is there a free music notator out there which can cope with
1) Have you ever heard of another notation software package called "Sibelius" and if so, how does it compare to Finale?
2) A few advatages to notating your compositions--(a) when dealing with classical groups and choruses, everyone can get on the same page (so to speak) :) , (b) if you copyright the composition, the materials are easier to mail to the copyright office (I'm not sure, but I think they will take recordings) !!

No it is not. .js files are JavaScript files (i.e. text files) not music files.

Removing song lyrics
Is there any software that will remove the lyrics from songs, for the purpose of karaoke? Thanks
Re: Removing song lyrics
If u can get Ur hands on Sound Forge and get the plug in Vocal Remover that will do it, but you can also do it by adjusting the equaliser. For karaoke you still want to have some lyrics in the background so just lower the 1k, 3k, 6k tones as far as U need. This should filter out quite a bit of vocals.
HELP!
i want to buy some good software that would be good to make dance, techno, trance etc and the final product can be recorded on cd using a cd burner. I want it to iclude all the usual stuff( sampler, filter, etc) . If you have any suggestions e-mail me:

cakewalk 9 dropout
Found out that I only have a 5400 rpn drive @ 10 gig. With only four tracks recorded drop out occour when effects are added in playback. Is this a HD problem , also have other recording programs in drive also could these be fighting for space ect.
Also would live to compare Magix against Cw , who is easer to use.
Thanks james
Re: cakewalk 9 dropout
this is a RAM problem I would trhink. You need more RAM, not a fater HD... The realtime effects are serperate inteties to the actual recorded parts... good luck!
Re: cakewalk 9 dropout
I've had drop outs before using 5400. But that's probably my soundcard. Usually, Windows plays one wave file at a time. With Cakewalk, it's able to layer those tracks up to 8 times (I've gone only up to 8, believe it or not). I've had 8 audio tracks playing at the same time using one soundcard, while MIDI is playing on the same soundcard as well as another soundcard (I have two soundcards installed and working at the same time!) It works! Check your DMA settings.

Re: cakewalk 9 dropout
If you are using realtime effects, expect dropout unless you are running a really fast machine. I use a 7200 RPM 13.6 GB drive and I sometimes have dropout problems when I use Cakewalk effects realtime. What might help is defragmenting your hard disk, cleaning your hard disk of unneeded stuff, and optimizing your hard disk settings in the Control Panel.

Mackie 2408
where can i find teh mackie 2408 manual, Please help me!!!!!
Re: Mackie 2408
As usual, the best way to find things online,
is to beat your head against a good search engine.
http://www.google.com
http://www.dogpile.com
You could also call up Mackie, by dialing
in the U.S., 555-1212 for directory assistance,
and asking for a 1-800 number for Mackie.
it sounds dumb, but hey... why not ask Mackie,
since the made the damn thing ?!

Re: converting songs into ringtones for mobile phones
SoundForge XP can create ringtones by letter or symbol or number,
you can then save the tunes as whatever sound file format.
how you get them into your Nokia, is your deal, however.
If you have a Mac, HyperCard is really good at
playing ring tones and stuff. There are tons and
tons of HyperCard User Groups and stuff.
search the net.

Re: how do i convert wav files to mp3
to convert Wav to mp3 download AltoMp3 Maker.
.wav files are about 10 times bigger than mp3. If You want to use music as background on your site get a SoundForge and convert music to .ra (Real audio) and get a player for yor site. Note: Sound quality will be much worse than mp3.
Cakewalk Home Studio 9 help
Anyone,
I have windows 98 and a Sound Blaster PCI 64V soundcard. I can record a drum track fine but when I try to record any other track, it "hops" out of sync. I have fixed it before through trial and error but for the last three months my Cakewalk has been rendered useless because of this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, any attempts to get something useful from Cakewalk has been fruitless. O-Dog
Re: Cakewalk Home Studio 9 help
Are you recording MIDI drum tracks or audio drum tracks (samples)? Either one, you might have too many things going on Win98 in the background. Or, memory too low? Resources too low? Something might be conflicting with your soundcard? Too many possibilities.

Deleting music off CD's
I would like to clear a whole CD-RW of the music that's on it, but I'm having problems.
I have Adaptec Direct CD but something must be wrong because it says that "No CD-RW drive found".
What could I be doing wrong? I thought that this software fully erased and cleaned disks?
Or is it possible perhaps to clean CD's online somewhere??
Thanks :-)
Zoom in, zoom out. Find the problem out.
The problem might not be with the CD, or your
drive. It could be your system software missing
the needed drivers, or it could be the system software getting
confused about where the drivers are, and what to do with them.
I'm guessing, that since you had your system up and
running before, that it's the last thing... your system
is confused about where to find its important stuff, and
how to use it.
This kind of thing most often happens right after
installing a new USB device or a new mouse, or scanner,
or soundcard or video card or something. If you
recently installed something new in your computer,
it doesn't matter what it was... chances are, it shuffled
the whole deck of playing cards. This is yet another
bad thing about typical PC's.
These kinds of errors have names like IRQ conflict,
DMA error, or I/O error. IRQ is the most common I have seen.
The trick is, even if you DON'T install new hardware, if your
computer THINKS that maybe you did, it will start shuffling it's
important data around and might lose track of some things.
This is exactly what happens with IRQ's.
IRQ's are needed by every device that needs to run
on your machine. The trouble is, there aren't usually enough
of them to go around. To make matters worse, some devices hog
them, other just hog certain ones, and others juggle the IRQ's
around like a cheating poker dealer.
I know this doesn't exactly help you get your CDR
drive running, and shit.... but this is what
could really be going on with your stuff.
I would suggest, as I always suggest to any computer
owner under ANY conditions, is this:
GET RID OF EVERYTHING YOU DONT USE.
un -install and remove and unplug
all the shit you don't need.
clean out your system of crap.
if you've heard that some of your software
causes bugs, then get rid of it, if you can.
What this will do, is make it much much more
likely that you'll only have to deal with those
programs and files that you need, and that any
other error-causing crap will be totally out
of the way.
This is pretty difficult to do thoroughly on
a PC, especially one running Windows, but you'll
have to live with that if you have one, cause you
weren't brave enough to buy a Mac.
OK, then what? Well, you will probably have to
get one of your geeky buddies who loves to diddle
on computers to come in to your house and fix it.
This is the only way anybody will know for sure, what's
actually going on. You could do it yourself, but
then you'd have to become that geeky guy who loves to
diddle on computers, and that's a lifestyle, not a solution.
If you don't have any geeky buddies like that, then
your next best option is to contact a computer installation
store, or repair shop. One really good kinda place to go to
is a locally owned place that deals with custom-installed software.
If they do any custom installing, then the HAVE TO KNOW how to fix
this kind of shit. Any other place named Circuit City, or Computer World,
or any other chain will just ask for your wallet in exchange for a big hassle
and maybe a new computer to sell you.
The ideal situation, is if you can find somebody who really knows
how to trim a system down to it's bare necessities.
These people are usually hackers. I say HACKER in a good sense.
If you can tell this person which programs you'd like to use and why, and
how often you use them, then they can probably get rid of all the stuff that
get's in the way of you getting your work done that way.
They will know of other ways of keeping your system healthy, and they
will know what kinds of software and systems to avoid.
If YOU would like to be one of those kinds of people, you could
start by getting the book IRQ, DMA, & I/O by
Jim Aspinwall. It's a great way to learn how to
resolve IRQ errors, for example. Just be warned, the
CD-ROM disk that comes with the book is full of dangerously bad crap.
The book isn't about the CD-ROM, the CD was just thrown in as
an add-on. Most of the programs on it aren't so useful, and some of
them could really trash up your system. Norton Utilities, for example
is fantastic on the Mac, but totally devastating on PC!
Norton Utilities run on my PC was like getting a VIRUS!!!!!!
however, reading a very very good book WONT give you or your
computer a virus.
Even if you aren't into this stuff, you could give
the book to your geeky friend in exchange for him or her
fixing up your system.
If they know what they're doing, it will take a few days, and some
check ups, but they will be able to get your system running better than
it has ever run.
Naturally, that will mean getting your audio stuff to run well too.
If your're in the business of getting a new system, just for audio,
you could contact SoundChaser.
1 800 549 4371 SoundChaser.com
They can custom design a pretty good system.
They aren't the best about configuring computers,
but they are the best about testing a system for
audio before shipping it to you, and they help you
pick out a great set of soundcards and software and
stuff.
Re: Deleting music off CD's
Do you actually have a CD recording drive on your PC? It isn't like a CD-ROM drive, you know. You can check if you have the drive via START - SETTINGS - SYSTEM in windows.

Yes I do - I have a burner drive that I used to make the CD itself....... but that drive isn't being recognised either!
By the way - should it be possible to just hit the delete button and delete a track off the CD? it doesn't work when I try but I don't know if it is supposed to work or not.

Can you Record into MIDI files!!!
i was wondering if ther is any programs that can Record music in MIDI
Re: Can you Record into MIDI files!!!
I'm not sure what you mean by "record into midi" but I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and when I open a midi sequence, I can add anything I want to the song. I am only limited by the amount of memory on my puter. CWPA9 has 256 tracks with which I can play any number of tracks while recording. You can get Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 at The Midi Store for $199.95 (www.themidistore.com) Don't buy it at the Cakewalk site. It is much higher there.
