Busted Alesis data disk recorder

My roomate has an old Alesis data disk recorder that finally gave. The floppy drive will no longer eject properly. Does anyone know where he can find a replacement disk drive for the dtata disk. Or any ideas on how to fix it? Any ideas would be great. Please e-mail me. NextStep_1999@hotmail.com

Soundblaster Live and Spdif

Hi there,

I am using a PC as a softsynth/sampler via an SBlive card and running the Digital I/O into a Protools rig on a mac.

I know there is a prob with SCMS on the digital out from the SBlive but does anyone have a possible soln- basically I need to output at 44.1k for the Mac but the card will only send at 48.
Any suggestions gratefully appreciated,

Help with Roland MS-1 Sampler

i have the MS-1 that i borrowed from a friend, he has no idea how to use it but he has samples loaded into it. however, it won't let me record or erase his samples, it tells me "memory bank protected"...how do i record or erase samples if they are memory bank protected?...any help would be appreciated thanks

Probably a little late in responding, but heres the procedure...
How to turn protect off is the opposite or turning it on adn it's easy, 1) press the EDIT SYSTEM button, and use the <> arrow buttons to get to the screen "PROTECT A: ON" 2) Use the BANK buttons A or B (or C,D,E) if you have a memory card installed, and selected the bank you want to write protect. 3) Press the "+" button to turn Write Protect ON or the "-" to shut it OFF.

music recording software

I recently bought Pro Tools Le in order to record lps to the hard drive, edit and output to CD. Used to do it in simple fashion with Digidesign's older software, but Pro Tools is daunting. What I need is someone who knows how to cut through all the confusion and advise me. Willing to pay for your time and expertise.

Cubase Download is useless, please help!!!

I have just downloaded the free version of cubase 5.0. I am finding it very difficult to understand how this software works as the tutorial is virtually non existent. Does anyone know how Cubase works that would be willing to help me.

Firstly where did you get your free download?

Anyhows I've got a couple of versions 3.0 and 3.0score and of course no tutorials are gonna get you around the console. I went looking for alternative instruction and found a publisher specializing in this field - Simon Millward of PC Publishing, now I don't know where you are Sue but this is a UK company. I got a guide that cost around $20 that was certainly money well spent.

There is of course alot to cover -- what is it you need to know?

Why don't you just convert the MP3 to WAV and then record your voice? It will sound better, believe me. You'll find that you'll need an MP3 encoder/decoder and a multi-track recorder. MP3 software is <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MP3/">here</a>. One pick is <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MediaBox/">MediaBox</a>.

OK, you'll need a recorder. Heaps <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/">here. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/n-Track_studio/">n-Track</a> is great, but there are a lot of freeware recorders too.

Right now I have a mic into which I can sing and it records and plays back. My friend sent me a song (in MP3), he wants me to write the lyrics to. I have written a first pass and want to sing it and then integrate it into his song. Right now I am using Music Studio 6 to do this. While I can hear the music, and sing with it, I can't seem to get them together. Music Studio is probably a great program, but not for MY simple level.

Cubase VST midi/audio drift Please help!

Hi My problem is that my midi song plays fine and on tempo when I playback my midi, but when I transfer the midi in audio track by track some tracks drift or are a bit out of sync. I have a soundblaster PCI 128 for midi and a M audio Delta 66 for audio. Could it be my soundblaster?
When I record I make long passes from the start of the song, Is that the way to do it? Please help, thank you!

I think now you can use the Athlon 64, it has no problems with software.

Microtuneing and things

I have a question for you about the product(s) that you have available to experiment with,
and I am woundering what you have...

What I need is a downloadable software synthesiser, which enables me to create sounds
of good quality, and to sequence them on my computer.

There are requirements however for whatever synthesiser, and I need to know:

*Do any synthesiser(s) that you have available hove what is called "microtuning",-that is,
the ability to tune in 1/100th of a semitone, and finer?

I need this feature to experiment with quarter notes and third notes, and the like.

*Is panning offered, that is the ability to control sound in the 3D steryo feild, via left/right
speakers?

*Sequenceing and layering ability, that is a visual interface that displays the waveform,
and notes on piano roll?

*Effects-such as reverb, phaser, delay, chorus, flange?

Please, can you adviese?

Help with REASON and Midi

Hi there!!!!

I am using REASON software which if i can just say is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im having one problem with it and thats the midi side.I am using a regular setup which consist`s

of a KORG O1wfd and the PC which is 1ghz. I set the midi up as it says to in the

acrobat file on reason, i am also setting the KORG to local control OFF and all the COMBI tracks

EXT for external.

So as a run down 1 Soundblaster card 2 REASON with soundcard midi selected and no BUS options set.

3 Korg set as above. 4 select midi sync focus ALL lit ie enable,midi,play

Ive also tried other combinations like local ON on the keyboard etc.....

Can you help me cheers...

Go to www.real.com and download RealJukebox basic. This is a very capable CD player/ recorder/ music librarian which will encode to MP3 as well as other formats. What's more it's free.

hey ,open multimedia icon under control panel,and click on recording devices,make sure the panel that says "microphone is checked..usually,"mixed output" is checked,so change that and see what happens

It is possible in the full version of fruityloops 3.0 where you can change the tempo by recording the live wheel movements.

Need Help!

I wonder if anyone can advise me as to what programme would be suitable. I want a high level of notation with quality dymanics, markings etc. I want to be able to play back, and link the programme to my keyboard, as well as have some studio facilities, although Cubase (the only programme I know well) would be overkill.

It seems that the realy high quality notational packages do not have any real studio facities, but that the studio packages that have notation are much more sophisticated than I need but that the lower levels do not have a good enough notation package.

I'd be really grateful if someone could suggest what I should try.

Logic Audio Platinum Environment Problems

I am having problems creating an environment in logic. When I setup a device that is my emu ultra 5000 sampler, and load the samples I want, sometimes when I select another instrament to setup and click back on the sampler it will wipe out the loaded samples and load the first directory it can load samples from weather its the hard drive or the CD. Any idea what is going on?

I am trying to figure out alternitive ways to get samples from my PC to my ASR10. I have a program called EPSDISK which allows my computer to read info from an ASR10 formated disk. It is also able to write wavetable information into an ASR10 readable format as .efe files. The problem is, I don't know anything about wavetable, and I don't know what a .efe file is. I don't even know if knowing these things would help me get my samples from my PC to my sampler.

Adaptec CD writer comes with software usually called Easy CD creator. I know for a fact that Easy CD Creator 4 converts mp3's to wave automatically when you wish to burn the CD. Some older versions require you to convert mp3's to .wav first. If this is the case NAPSTER won't do it. Download the player called Winamp (you can find it on places like http://www.download.com it's free)
Once you install it visit this site where it explains how to convert mp3's to .wav using Winamp.

I downloaded the update to MY HPCD to go from 2.5 to 2.61 and all of a sudden the unit will no longer create an audio CD. It will go through the motions, ask for a blank disk, test the write speed and finish, saying the cd was successful. But when I put the new CD into any type of player (PC, Car CD, Portable CD Player) the CD won't play. It will recognize the total tracks and total time, but no music. I've tried uninstalling and installing my original 2.5 version, but no luck. I'm desperate, please help.
