: I recently purchased an internal HPCD writer 9500. I've been creating CD's from audio CD's as well as converting MP3's to audio Cd's, no problem. I downloaded the update to MY HPCD to go from 2.5 to 2.61 and all of a sudden the unit will no longer create an audio CD. It will go through the motions, ask for a blank disk, test the write speed and finish, saying the cd was successful. But when I put the new CD into any type of player (PC, Car CD, Portable CD Player) the CD won't play. It will recognize the total tracks and total time, but no music. I've tried uninstalling and installing my original 2.5 version, but no luck. I'm desperate, please help.

IMHO HP's MyCD is a pile of pants, and you'd be far better off using Adaptec Easy CD Creator or Nero etc- You can pick up OEM versions quite cheaply...
(HP used to ship their CD burners with Easy CD, but obviously decided they didn't want to pay license fees to Adaptec, so wrote their own bobbins software)
Alternatively, try running 'updateASPI.exe' from the original HP CD.

Ok, I think I am experienced, I have nearly every major audio and MIDI software program out there, and some not-so- major ones , and I can honestly tell you that this software, in such simplified form does not exist. However there are a couple ways to achieve this. First you must understand the concept of MIDI. MIDI itself is not a sound at all, it is simply a computer language of sorts which triggers sounds from the wavetable synthesizer on your soundcard. This cannot be recorded through the same sound card. One method for successful MIDI-to-Audio-to-CD (which is the way your work must be transferred) is to add a second soundcard to your computer. You will then connect the output of the soundcard playing the MIDI to the input of the second card, use an audio multitracking software (Cakewalk, I always recommended though you may also look into Steinberg Cubase, Logic Audio, or many others) to record the AUDIO coming from MIDI into the second card. With a program like Cakewalk you should be able to sequence the MIDI plyback to the audio recording extremely precisely. This is the method I use. The second method requies the use of an external MIDI keyboard or MIDI tone generator connected to the gameport jack via a special cable availible at most large music stores... this will send MIDI data from the computer , to the keyboard or module, from which an audio cable can be connected to the output of the keyboard to the input of the soundcard, where the music can then be recorded into a tracking program as I mentioned before. This is a classic "Pyramid Scam". In the United States it is considered illegal and fully prosecutable. The reason it is illegal is that there is no product associated with the process and essentially the people at the top of the pyramid are scamming all the people at the bottom of the pyramid. The people at the top of the pyramid always get caught and usually are heavily prosecuted. I'm not sure what the laws are in the UK but i would imagine they are similar. Like most things in life, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. This scam has been around forever, probably even around the time of the first Pyramids in Egypt. People are who let themselves be lambs led to the sacrificial alter get what they deserve, don't allow yourself to become one. Use common sense... etc. etc.

Sounds to me like you are using a music keyboard with MIDI output, NOT a computer keyborad. See, if you use say a Yamaha keyboard with internal sounds and an internal sequencer, you are sending down the midi line more than just notes and controller data. You are sending parameter data and probably "change it" data. you need to get a computer Midi keyboard... these come in a variety of sizes and prices (as do most things) ranging from the cool and simple Studio Logic CMK49 for about $90 to the huge Oberhiem and Kurzweil mammoths seeling for $1000 +. hope this is some help.

you sure can if you got a fast enough processor. i dont know the exact numbers, but id say at least 450mhz(PC) and 128mgs of RAM. The softsynths availible are increasingly numorous, but id say Native Instruments' Reaktor is the top commerical soft synth/sampler availible. A small about of web searching will turn up demos and freeware softsynths that you should use first before you throw down any serious cash... An important hardware issue with these softsynths is "latency" (the amount of time it takes for the sound to play back after the key is struck) This is highly dependant on your processor speed AND your soundcard AND your soundcard's drivers. The first thing you'll wanna adjust within the preferences of your softsynth are the size of the buffers, this determines how much the computer will "read ahead" or precalculate the sounds being played. This is were you will discover your computer's capibilities.
