MP3 to RA...?
Hi,
Anyone know how to convert mp3's to ra's....?
TIA.
Re: MP3 to RA...?
You can't convert MP3 to .ra but you can convert mp3 to .wav than to .ra
Easiest way is using Sound Forge 4.5. but it's hard to find. try looking around for some hacker sites. Also I remember I was using Real Producer before for something like before I got Sound Forge.

Hello Cole,
It is quite confusing because there is so much software
available for Ear Training these days but one that
really stands out in my opinion is <b>Auralia</b> (I might
be biased because they're from Australia too :).
Here are some links to download the demo version:-

Re: Whats happenen
Hi
Well you've asked a broad question. There are 100s of ways to do what you want to do. Look in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/COMPUTER_AIDED_MUSIC/">computer-aided section</a> first. There's a lot of great stuff there.
Stuff to look for is acid, fruityloops, magix, ejay and cakewalk.

RECORD ANYTHING YOU CAN HEAR and other solutions
ya know, if you really want
someone here to solve your problem...
why don't you post some helpful advice yourself.
If you keep helping others out, maybe they will
be willing to help you out!
So here i go:
1) A lot of you are asking for software to convert
from one format to another. A good way to do this,
is to find a program that can PLAY the sound.
Then download and install: VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE.
You can find this at http://www.google.com if
you know how to use a search engine. This sound
driver lets you RECORD ANY SOUND YOU CAN HEAR.
Then, keep downloading freeware and shareware
until you find something that can play the format
you need to hear, and another which can record in
the format you need to record in. It sounds harder
than it actually is. It takes some experimentation,
but it's actually alot less time consuming than
trying to hunt down and get the PERFECT PROGRAM.
2) Search the web using carefully chosen words.
The PERFECT PROGRAM doesn't exist. You'll have to
look for software that does one or a few things well.
Get an editor here, a multitrack there, a MIDI sequencer
from somewhere else. Many programs can do more than
one thing. Each program has a different set of advantages
and disadvantages. LIVE WITH IT.
If you DONT
know how to use a search engine, then you really
won't be able to do much of ANYTHING with your
audio software until you learn.
3) Many problems are caused by really crappy software
designed by RICH companies. You can stop that
pattern by getting really GOOD programs from
very POOR freeware and shareware programmers.
Just cause it's popular doesn't mean that it
doesn't suck.
4) DO MIX APPLES and ORANGES!!! Many programs
claim to be good at doing one thing, but
really they are better at doing another thing.
I have found that multitrack programs are
better as effect processors. Effects programs
are better at synthesis. Editing programs
are better at sequencing. Etc. Many editing
programs are better at converting formats than
format converters.
5) Hard work is hard work. Making good music is NOT EASY.
Either it's gonna COST alot of TIME or alot of MONEY.
Probably BOTH. RICH PEOPLE HIRE PRODUCERS AND MUSICIANS
TO WORK FOR THEM. You could do the same, but it's cheaper
to whine and whine. Why not quit whining and just do the
work. After you learn how to do your own work and solve
your own problems, you'll know how to avoid future headaches.
6) YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT YOUR BRAIN.
Get a calculator and USE IT! You can do BPM
calculations really fast with a stopwatch and
a calculator. You can even do transpositions
and beat matching for timestretching and such.
Change sample rates to change pitches.
Here's a few clues: 1.05946 x 440Hz = A sharp
440 / 1.05946 = A flat
240 / stopwatch loop phrase timed = rough BPM
(multiply times 2 until you get a number high
enough, divide by 2 until you get a number low
enough)
7) COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS ARE NOT ALWAYS MUSICAL
Go to a goddammed music store and talk to the clerk.
Talk to other musicians. Hell, go to a recording studio
and ask for a tour. While you're there, ask them about
why what they have there is better than your home studio
computer set-up. You will learn some new tricks.
8) DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT TO DO FIRST. THEN DECIDE
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET IT DONE.
Maybe you do'nt really need some software, you
just want to get some attention for making
music. Go buy a trumpet. Learn to play.
Get tips at the open mic night at yer coffeehouse.
Nothing can beat musicians who can play live.
9) Quit trying to imitate the pop stars on TV
Most videos and TV celebrity musicians are
posers. They can't give away all of their
secrets, cause then they'd get poor real fast.
Create your own style and just worry about
sounding better. Fuck the latest shitheads.
Their label pays them to look pretty.
10) Listen to the GEEKS of the PLANET.
If YOU aren't willing to read the damn
manual and all of the shitty fine print,
then at least you can listen to someone
who does. People who do the hard work
usually don't get much recognition.
They are often really bitter cause they
always get shafted and ripped off by the
richer, better looking, faster talking
wannabees of the world.
But if you have a technical problem that
you just can't solve alone,
for GOD's sake, listen to the Geek who lives
for the thrill of the technological puzzle.
they will always lead you to the promised land,
no matter how boring the long ride is.
This is how computers were invented.
Yo, this guy is like, so right-on!
This guy is so right. you guys should
save his post and print it up for reference.
the Virtual Audo Cable driver worked
just perfectly on my PC.
Actually, I didn't even need it all of the
time, since I have a good sound card from
Midiman with a built in software mixer.
But it worked cool enough, and didn't
mess up my work with Tuareg or Sound Forge XP.
Gee, thanx Logical guy.

Uh both the original message and response came from the same IP number ;)

So like, uh , what are you sayin Lisa?
did YOU try the Virtual Audio Cable ?
did YOU consider any of my advice ?
I'm just trying to get people to read this
so that maybe they get something done
besides asking a lot of the same questions
over and over again.
Most people here just as a question.
Hardly anyone here gives any useful information.
What information can you lend, Lisa, besides
my IP address ?

Hi Jeramiah,
If there is a program out there than can do the job
then your best bet would be <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/awave_win95/">Awave Studio</a>
because it can convert just about anything.
Jason.
What is a good starter synth?
Okay, I downloaded alot of software synths that people said they liked, but I have never used any before and I cannot get shit from them. Does anyone know of a decent software synth to start off with and learn how to use before I gradute to more complex stuff?
Re: What is a good starter synth?
Dan, I bought an Alesis QS7 a couple of years ago and I have never regreted it. It isn't the best peice for live gigs but I have used it live without any problems. However, it is not the easiest to go from one program or patch (sound) to another with. It is very good, in my opinion, for recording and playing MIDI. It easily connects to the computer via your sound cards game port or through the serial port. It has 4 outs for true quad sound, touch sensitive keys, a fiber optic digital out which allows direct recording to an ADAT and many other great features. Mine has never been in for repairs and has NEVER failed to give me great service. But, most importantly, it is the best bang for your buck. You can order yours from Musicians Friend for about $1000.00. You can't beat it for a powerful and inexpensive synth. Hope this helps. Have a great day!
Re: What is a good starter synth?
Well, if you are using Cubase VST, I would say try out Waldorf PPG wave 2.0. I Love it!

A really easy one to get started with that doesn't
require VST is <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SimSynth2/">SimSynth</a>
Another good stand alone synth which is completely
free is <A href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Analogic_win95/">AXS</a>.

Adaptec EZ CR creator 5
Hello all
Is there anyone that has adaptec ez creator 5 please help
Re: Adaptec EZ CR creator

Hi Logical Guy,
I've read quite a bit about EZ CD Creator 5, and it's not good. The Pros on Tech TV say it's not worth the $$. What you're experiencing is a bug in ECC5. Many more problems with it too. Go to Google and enter "subchannel data" in Search, and you can read a forum re: ECC5. Nobody's happy with it, even screws up ECC4, which is apparently capable of more than ECC5. Best of luck

Re: Adaptec EZ CR creator
Screw your software,... get the old version
Easy CD Creator 4. Otherwise, call Adaptec until
you can get a guaranteed working version approved
to work on your current operating system.
It could be a Windows 2000, or Windows ME issue.
Or whatever. It sounds like a file somewhere
got messed with in the View:Folder Otions:File Types
menu. It would be tricky to fix.
I would make sure that you first totally remove
all versions of the CD creator first, then
double check using Find File... and whatever
other tricks you can think of. Then run some
disk repair and maintennance routines. Shut down
the computer, and restart from fresh.
Then install it.
again.
I find that software that fails upon installation,
IS REALLY REALLY REALLY DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!
if it doesn't install nicely, then you can be
sure it is a programmed disaster!!!!!
the best programs, don't even require installation.
they just DO their THING!!!!!
The whole fuckin "Install" custom, is TOTALLY
unneeded and it just fucks with your computer
system files.
I avoid having more than about 7 complex
programs installed at any one time.
The other programs, which are all much simpler,
I store on another drive, and most of them
didn't require any kind of "Install" routine.
Interestingly, the programs I have which I
didn't have to install, NEVER CRASH.
But the mainstream commercial big name
programs that have me jump through all of the
stupid menu hoops always fail sooner or later.
And the companies send me the wrong CD's and
stuff, and their websites have bad downloads.
Hackers and Freeware Programmers are the
TRUE sOLUTIONS.
