I use a cheap mixing desk, cost 150 DEM (German Marks). It's got 7 channels - I use 2 for mics / instruments which I line in to the soundcard. I use another 2 channels for the stereo signal coming out of the soundcard (contains the mic signal plus drums or whatever from the computer). The signal from the mic also goes directly 'through' the mixing desk to the output, which goes to my speaker amp. This means I can ajust the balance between the mic input and the computer input - I can totally cut out the computer if I want, just can't hear what I'm playing over ... really good 'example set-up' at www.pc-music.com - learn loads there ...

well, Samantha, I always like to help out fledgling artists. You seem to be very intent on being a singer. Cool. But the gentleman who responded to you in the other message left out just a few important details. First of all, you write you own songs, that is great. However, he suggested doing cover tunes to get a chance with the record labels, and not to scare you in any way , but I feel you should know a couple of things. In the music industry, presentation is everything, how you present yourself will dictate you entire career. And for you to be a young lady with a passion for singing, to send in a demo of you doing cover tunes might not be the best idea. Sure that is undoubtibly the way Britney Spears made it but be aware that Britney and others like her are what those in the business call a "pawn" . A "pawn" is merely a puppet to the record industry who has no opinion, no choice, and no backbone. Don't let yourself be a pawn in their game. Stick to YOUR songs, and make that clear from the beginning. Go out, buy Cakewalk Home Studio, read the manual, learn how to record on a computer with it, and you and your other friend make a demo and GET IT COPYRIGHTED... this can be done for $30, then send it to whomever you like , record producers, a and r reps, managers, who ever. but make it clear that you are NOT a spineless "little girl" ... and feel absolutely free to rmail me with any questions! Don't want to under or over invest, but need pro quality system.. trying to decide how much RAM to get. "128MB SDRAM - 1DIMM" is stock. Is this enough, or will it drag and bug with 8 track 90 minute compositions? What is safe here? Can anybody clarify pros/cons of more processor vs more RAM for mac recording? thanks!

I own a mac g-4(400) and run protools. My experience is you'll need more ram-- around 500 or more. The reason for more ram is so your processor can run more plug-ins.

Whenever this happens to me, I uninstall Nero, re-check my ASPI files (use forceASPI if necessary), then re-install Nero.

Dunno why it happens, but sometimes it occurs after I've used (any) other burner progs, even InCD, which I've reluctantly given up using for this reason.

: can't record audio with my Live Platinum card: already recorded MIDI and it works OK, but when I try recording AUDIO with the Line/Mic jack or the AUX rca's nothing sounds. Nor reaches the Cubasis mixer ( the VU doesn't move ). I only have seen - sometimes- the movement of the "spectre" in the "Sorround mixer" window, so the sound was getting in somehow. Nobody in Creative here -Spain- seems to be of great help. ¿Somebody had a similar problem? Anyway, I'm new here. I'd thank contacts with users of that gear.
