Re: ged to mp3/wav....HOW???

to change the .ged file to an mp3, you dont usually need any special software, you can just rename the file extension to .mp3. If you want to change this to a .wav file, use MP3&WAV Converter,(available on this site) because it supports both mp3 to wav and wav to mp3.

Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 Help

This message concerns Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1, and its ability to play DVD's. Currenlty everything works on it, except for the DVD. When a DVD disc is placed in the drive, it shows unsupported disc when in remote centre. If anyoe can help me play DVD's using the remote centre that would be great.

Thanks,

Brent

Re: Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 Help

My advice is this: DONT USE SOUNDBLASTER.

soundblaster used to be, like, the only
soundcard around that was mainstream. maybe
it still is. but hey, there are hundreds of
other sound hardware/software systems that
are much easier and more reliable and flexible.

I read lots of software documentation and bug
fixes and release notes and stuff.

Guess what i have learned: DONT tRUST SOUNDBLASTER!!!

soundblaster is designed to be cheap. that's it.

other manufacturers design sound cards to be advanced
and flexible and good sounding.

Personally, i couldn't afford one of those really
super duper systems, so i got a soundcard from MIDIMAN
(M AUDIO). It works great.

OK, so what does this have to do with DVD/s ??????

NOTHINg!!!!!!!!

but now that you know that soundblaster sucks,
you can focus your real energy on finding a
system that doesn't, but has specific support for
DVD's.

I would stay clear clear away from Microsoft products
and Soundblaster stuff.

How about contacting AVID. They have been involved
with Digital Video and Sound for years and years for
the major motion picure companies. They also own DIGIDESIGN,
which makes proTools and a bunch of other AV stuff like the
AudioMedia cards and stuff.

I'm sure AVID knew about DVD long long ago. They
probably even helped develop it.

. Look Dood, You've got to realize the audience you're talking to, most of them have a SoundBlaster card, And it doesn't suck! It plays 16 bit audio at 44 thousand kilohertz. Help me with my MP3's

I need some help here, for some reason or another, when I go to my Adaptec Easy CD Creator, I go to my folder and it will not recognize any MP3's. All that it recognizes are Wav's, but all of my songs are MP3's. This only recently happened, I just got a Trojan virus off and it messed up alot of drivers, etc., so I think that it may have something to do with that. Someone please help me here, I need to be ablt to burn my music. Thanks alot.

What you need to do is convert those mp3s to wav files so you can record to disk with Adaptec. I think Winamp is the best for doing this. Its fast and easy. Your setting in Winamp have to be proper. See my website for more detail.

Brandon

Re: Help me with my MP3's

Tried re-installing your Adaptec software?

Re: Help me with my MP3's

what do you want to do? record mp3's or wav.

if you want to burn mp3s? then you need to select Data not audio.

If you want to burn wav. then you would select audio.

does this help?

User-Friendly S/W to Record and Mix

I am looking for software that is VERY user-friendly with which I can record my voice (and MIDI instruments) and then mix, say, track 1 and track 2 to get track 3. Is there simple software out there?
Thanks.

Re: User-Friendly S/W to Record and Mix

Iris,

Have you looked for any programs or used anything in the past? You didn't say. n_Track is the best for this kind of thing.

Re: User-Friendly S/W to Record and Mix

OK, this is a very long post again, but
I'm trying to clue you in on my basic
principles which keep life simpler.

I have stopped searching for ONE BIG PROGRAM
to satisfy all my needs. MANY LITTLE PROGRAMS
working together are much better. And if one
doesn't work, I just go and get another one.

Here's what you need:

1) a program that plays a variety of wave files
2) a program that records a variety of wave files
3) a program that edits a variety of wave files
4) a program that mixes a variety of wave files
5) a full-duplex sound card (so you can record
and play at the same time) Preferably, it
will have lots of routing options like an
internal mixer.
6) recording inputs, (analog inputs, or digital
inputs connected to a digital recorder like
a minidisc recorder)

OK, that's basically it. It doesnt' matter as much
which ones you have, as long as you know how to use
them to get work done, and they don't crash. It helps
if you don't have to do lots of crazy installing. That's
why I like freeware... the good and simple stuff just comes
as a zip package, and you just copy it to where you like.

If you want to do MIDI recording, well, that's another isssue.
But at least you can record MIDI music as AUDIO.
YOU CAN't RECORD AUDIO MUSIC AS MIDI!

I actually, never use MIDI on my computer. It
was too complicated to get it working ok. I only
use Cubasis for MIDI playback with a bunch of
freeware synths as VST/DirectX plug-ins.

=================================================

I have tried nTrack. Well, it failed my initial tests:

1) requires complicated installation and modifications to
the registry (and probably system folders)

2) didn't install very well and crashed on first use.

3) has way TOO many settings and menus and switches

4) graphical layout was not easy to read

in summary, don't use it.

There are so many other good programs out there.

In fact, many programs that weren't designed to
even work together, do so wonderfully.

For example, there is a simple program called
WAV.EXE what does it do ? plays waves. that's
it. you click on a wave file, and it starts playing.
Ok, no big deal, but guess what? it can also play
everything else that Windows Media Player plays, but
without the graphics. Why do I need to SEE ANYTHING
if I just want to hear a sound ???????!!!!

OK, so I have my WAV.EXE program handy, and I can
play files with a click. If i want to do an overdub,
I load up SoundForge XP or WaveLabLite or Audio Companion,
or DDCLipPro or whatever other recording programs
I have lying around.

After I click on a sound file, I check to make sure I am getting
a level with the sound level meters. If there is no sound,
then I select a different recording driver. Microsoft Sound
Mapper seems to almost always work for Playing, my soundcard's
driver always seems to work for Recording (and playing). I then
set the sound input via my soundcard's control panel. It lets me
record from a variety of internal or external sources.

OK, so I am getting a level. The sound is coming from my microphone
to my soundcard to my recording program. I can see my voice on the meters.
Meanwhile, for playback, I just click on a sound, and I hear it play out
my soundcard.

I listen to what plays, and sing an overdub into the recording program.

OK. I'm done now. I save my voice recording and
load it and the playing music file into Cubasis to
mix them together and edit them or add effects.

I can also use ProTools Free for more controlled
editing, or DDCLip for change, if I need something
a little more intuitive.

For that matter, I could even mix the two files in
an editing program with faders like SoundForge XP's
paste special mix command.

Well, you get the picture. I am using a bundle of
different programs. You could use a different bundle.

I wish I could be a bit more clear, but it would
just be easier if I showed you. Maybe I'll publicize
some quick video clips on how I use my system someday.
Then again, that would be a lot of work and I don't
have a webcam or video software. Besides, I would bore
you to death. Shouldn't music be fun ?

m3u files

i am really having a problem converting m3u files into wav files. Can anyone help?

Susie

Re: m3u files

A m3u file is just a redirector to a mp3 and it is sent as content type audio/xmpegurl so your mp3 player will start playing it immediately instead of downloading it first. If you want the mp3, most likely you can right click on it, save target as, save to hdd, open it with notepad, and the link to the mp3 will be enclosed. Now just copy the link and paste it in your address bar on your browser and it will download.

Re: m3u files

M3U files aren't really FILES!!!!!!!!!!!
this sounds crazy, but m3u's are basically just
little packets of data, like beads from a necklace.

You want the whole necklace of beads, like an mp3 or
wave file. the m3u file is just one tiny little bead from
a necklace you can only get from an online streaming session.

ok. so what you need to do, is instead of trying to download
or save m3u's is download or save mp3's. There might even be
some mp3's hiding in a temporary internet items folder or something
after you got all of the m3u's into your m3u player. Windows Media Player
is like that.

ok. Well, then. to save your stream, you need to do some research
on how to get your sound recording program to record the output
of your m3u player.

VIRTUAL AUDIO CABLE.

ok, that's a very big clue.
you might not even need it, but it will tell
you enough in it's help file to give you the
big picture.

good luck.

I would also download a copy of something small like
JUKEBOX which plays mp3's and wave files. Actually,
a better program is WavBrowser.

ok. ask around.

I bet Lisa has better suggestions.

Re: m3u files

Hello,
I'm here for onereason and that is to slightly correct you. M3U's are files!
They are track lists and that is all! If you open an M3U in winamp it will play a specified track list, but if you open it in Notepad it is nothing more than a list of songs!!

Just had to point that out to you....

Re: m3u files

an m3u file is a playlist end of.

Re: m3u files

I have a problem when click on the m3u file in the browser gut the massage if I want to save or open the file.
please how can I get red of this massage .and open the file directly

thank you

REALLY need help with Winamp!

Hi,
I've been having this problem with Winamp for ages but I don't know why it happens or how to rectify it. I often download music off the web & keep it in a playlist in Winamp. At first they play fine but later some songs just won't play- they're still in the playlist but when I click on them it just scrolls down until it reaches another song that I suppose is playable. Often it'll scroll down about 5 songs in a row & will not play them no matter what I do. It's like they've been erased or something. I'm constantly re-downloading songs because of this. I don't know if it's something to do with the fact that they're temporary internet files but when I download them they're automatically saved there. I don't know how to save them anywhere else. Has anybody else had this problem or know what it is? Thanks.

Re: REALLY need help with Winamp!

How i can Take out the sound of 1 instrument of a song

My problem is I want to take out the sounds of various
instruments of a song (mp3 or wav) like vocal, guitar
or drums . But I never hear nothing about this .
so I need anythink about this

Thanks

Jethro Morais

Re: How i can Take out the sound of 1 instrument of a song

Hello Jethro,
I think that isn't possible with wav or mp3.
Only with midi you can take out one sound.
It's also my problem.

Midi-connection of recording and drumcomputer software

Hi out there,

i'm using cakewalk and would like to use a software drumcomputer (midi or wave) to record the drum sets.

To synchronize them, i learned, that i can use software to connect them.

I tried MidiYunktion and Midi LoopBack, but it doesn't work. Installation and everything is OK, but the software which is triggered externally, doesn't start running....

Has anyone an idea, how to solve this or does anyone know of a more reliable software?

thanks and best regards Matthias

Normalizer for MP3s?

Does anyone know of a good normalizer for MP3 files?
I've only found a few, but they want to encode the
MP3s again, in addition to normalizing them, so they
are encoded twice, instead of just normalized, and they
sound like crap. Is there a program that just scans
a folder or MP3s (or AIFFs) and finds the peak, and
edits all the songs to have a similar peak? It's a
pain to just have to manually edit each song in
something like a waveform editor, one by one, and guess
what might be a good volume level for each song before
I burn them to a CD.

P.S. I use a Mac, but have access to a PC, so while I
prefer Mac software, I could use software from either
platform.

Thanks,
Chuck Cruse

Hm :)) It seems to me what you really don;t know how a MP3 is constructed. You can't edit wave samples while they are encoded - compressed !!! Program must first to decode it, then to normalize and to decode back to MP3. There are no REAL MP3 EDITOR AT ALL!!!! - IT CANNOT BE. All software does this way even it is written to be a real mp3 editor. I think your problem is what your software encodes or decodes very badly. Try another simple decoder and encoder and edit edit decoded samples in another wav editor.
If you still do not believe me, listen: try to imagine what you have a compressed text file. And how do you think you can edit the text? :)) FIrst you need to decompress, edit and than compress again. It is like a zip process, only the difference is that mp3 uses a loss-quality algorythm.

Re: Normalizer for MP3s?

With all due respect to the orator, you aren't addressing the issue for this first person!! Enough!! I've been successfully using MP3 Trim beta 1.72, and also an older MP3 Trim Pro. They both do a thorough job of normalizing, and I've not noticed ANY degradation in the quality of the sound. Give it a try at: http://www.logiccell.com/~mp3trim/

What program do I need?

I am in need of some advice of what type of program I need. What I am intending to do is to connect my turntables and mixer into the line in jack on my computer and record a my mixing (of around an hour long sample) so that I can save it as an MP3 file. Any ideas of what type of program I need in order to do this? Also I am looking for a shareware program that I can download off the net (don't want to pay for it obviously!!)
Cheers for any advice.

Re: What program do I need?

Chris

You don't want to pay but you expect someone to help you for free. Uh? ;)

Anyway, the best thing to do is record it as a WAV file and then convert it.

Try using GoldWave.
