Tape to CD

Try using some EQ, or gating in a program like sound forge, or try a noise reduction plug in.

I have some problems with my sound card. I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pci128. I have some drivers for it but it's causing a conflict, and it's not working. I tried to install the update version of drivers for Win 98 but it's not working. Please let me know if you know where from I can download some other drivers for Win98 for this device. Thanks!

playing midi files

Help!
I'm using midi files in a live application and sometimes the files won't play like they are supposed to. I have to turn off the sound generator and re-initialize it, then the file will play ok. Any idea why this is happening? Any help will greatly be appreciated. I'm using Cakewalk Live software.

Have u heard about SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE.?
Use sysex at the begining of your midi song and at the end of you song.But before that ,u must
understand how to use the midi implimentation.
ex.Program Change ,Control Change etc,etc.
The easy way to learn is to download good midi files from the internet.There u can see how those
command are being use.Learn more about MIDI
IMPLIMENTATION,u can do many thing with it.

How to make Streaming Audio????

I have MP3's at my site www.releaseyourpotential.freeserve.co.uk and want to speed up the download time by adding this streaming audio stuff - how do I do it? Is there only RealNetworks who produce software to perform this? Is there any FREE s/ware out there with which to transmit audio over the net in a speedier fashion than MP3??

Go to www.real.com/devzone and download the free RealProducer software. Currently, I am using streaming mp3 and that works very well.

Some questions first.

Is it midi files you want to convert to wave files? Or Mp3?

What sound card do you have? Can it play and record at the same time?

midis for clavinova

Could you please assist me, I recently bought a clavinova and am delighted with it. However, I am not very musical minded so I enjoy trying using the Easy Play facility. However, I notice that some moidi disks do show the music roll and some don't. Also some disks also show the lyrics. What is the difference between them all. I would be grateful if somebody could tell me as I would like to obtain a selection of disks.

First of all....welcome to the world of midi Jean!

Secondly, if you want to get midi disks for the clavinova, then Yamaha do an extensive range in their catalogue. I use their site at www.yamaha.co.uk.

Thirdly, there are different kinds of midi file; format0 ;format1 ; XG ; XF to name but a few. Only XF files will be able to display lyrics as they have the lyrics built into the midi file. My Clavinova can't read this format unfortunately :(
Yamaha sell XF midi files on floppy disk for your instrument.

Fourthly, some midi files cannot be played using the "easy play" and "next note" facility UNLESS you convert them to CVP files, then you can use this facility. How I do it is to press the "rec" button, a dialogue comes up on the screen asking "do you want to convert to CVP song?" I say yes and you have an uncle Robert! ;) This modified file can now be played using the easy play facility.

I am sorry this reply is so late but was only today that I came back to this site. I thank you so much for your advice re the disks in clavinova and I am over the moon that it works. I would love to learn a lot more - I am really interested but being a middle aged woman its all double dutch to me - however, I am enjoying the little I do know. The problem is that the instruction book which came with the Clavinova is too technical for me to unerstand so your advice in simple layman's terms was great ! Thanks again. Simple chord/lyric program

Could somebody recommend the simplest of lyric/chord writing programs please?
Just want to be able to write out the lyrics, post the chords above them, specificaaly above the word the change occurs on AND at the click of a button, change the key. A kind of Guido plus lyrics & chords.

I'm trying to find the simplest of notation programs.
I like Guido's manuscript program. If I could just add:
1.)lyrics
2.) The abilty to insert chords above the lyrics. Directly over the word the chord changes on.
3.) The ability to cahnge the key at the click of a button.

pc drummer demo

multitrack record problems

I've used Cakewalk Pro audio and Cool Edit Pro and have the same problem. I get a fuzzy electronic distortion on tracks recorded in multitrack mode. The first track comes out fine. But subsequent tracks are distorted. In CEP I can place pre-recorded tracks in a multitrack session but I can't record in multitrack mode. I've tried adjusting the various cache and buffer settings to no end. System:
pentium MMX 200mhz
64meg ram
15gig HD
SB-16 sound card
Windows 98
Help!

Hi Jean,

I believe you need to purchase a new sound card. The SB 16 is very old and doesn't handle simultaneous record and playback very well. When you try to record new audio while playing back existing audio, the SB 16 can only do that by using 8-bit resolution rather than 16-bit, so you get a low quality recording.

I frequently create samples and loops for my outfit "Wish" on my pc. Its very hard to reproduce these live without falking out for a sampler or actually relocating my pc on stage. Ive thought of getting a laptop and controling it with a cheap midi keyboard controller...does any one recomend any gear/programmes/hardware. (im not sure how available good laptop soundcards are)

a PC AND a MAC??? That is asking for troulble! If u don't mind Mark working through the problems of compatibility why not but let's face it, Windows platform has far more potential. Macs just confuse the issue!

I think emu - www.emu.com - (funnily enough) make quality laptop soundcards. As it's audio u intend to use even a standard card would do I think - u don't need quality onboard midi sounds?

u may need a midi box thing to connect a cheap controller keyboard via a cable. If laptop has joystick port i think u can plug it straight in with a cable. Have u tried 'gigasampler'?

i'd check out apple's web site and do a general search
