try another sequencer brandon and if same results then u need to look at your soundcard options. Also have u stipulated the ins/outs in n-Tracks 'audio options' or whatever it's named in that program. Firstly have u unmuted 'mic in'? Check 'Multi Media' in 'Control Pannals' - Start>Settings>Control Pannels>Multi Media

HELP: Converting CD

I copied a music file onto Cool Edit 2000 from a cassette and saved it as a .wav file. I then wrote it to a CD. When I put the CD in a non-computer CD, such as home stero or auto it will not play.

what format? ie. .cda or .wav?

Like you can burn a CD of MP3 files, but because your
stereo does not recognise that audio format, it cannot
play it.

CDA files are the only audio files that your stereo
or non-computer CD player will recognize.

If you want to start downloading songs, there are heaps of places to go. Let's forget Napster for a minute, there are heaps of great web sites with great music. A lot of people who use this site make MP3s and put them on sites such as <a href="http://www.mp3.com/">http://www.mp3.com/</a>, <a href="http://www.iuma.com">http://www.iuma.com</a>and <a href="http://www.ampcast.com">http://www.ampcast.com/</a>

Winamp is an mp3 player so all u need to use it are some mp3 files OK? U can get them from Napster - www.napster.com. Just download the Napster file sharing program then search with it for some songs. When u say 'i have not installed mp3' I don't know what u mean here! If Winamp is working all u need now are thoses mp3 files!!

You can always try <a href="http://www.mp3.com/">http://www.mp3.com/</a> as it's the biggest and arguably the best. Just make sure that you have 128 Kbps stereo MP3 files before you upload.

mp3 and cd copying problems

i'm having trouble finding a good mp3 maker, one that will make mp3s that don't click or have holes in 'them'. my other problem..the one i'm upset about is that i cannot duplicate a cd with out there being any problems. every time i burn a cd, i use nero 5.0.?.? or whatever, it always sounds like the song's skipping or little glitches are missing. please help me before me computer flies out seconds story window..thanks andrew

VST SBLIVE LATENCY CURE!!

It turns out that Steinberg's latest release of the Cubase sequencer (version 5.0) includes new ASIO drivers that work very well with the SBLive. This means lower latency for audio in Cubase, including VST instruments! I first heard of this from the HYBRID crew's posting on the SoundFont newsgroup a couple of days ago, reporting latency as low as 27ms! It turns out you can use the new drivers with older versions of Cubase too. The HYBRID crew writes:

"Howdy peeps & bods. Still getting crap latency with your SBlive/Cubase setup? We heard a rumour about the new ASIO drivers in Cubase 5. So we did a little test, and it worked. we just dropped ours down to 27ms."
Here's hot in ten easy steps...

Back up your current ASIO folder for safe keeping (call it "origasio.zip").
Install the Cubase5 demo.
Back-up the contents of the ASIO folder from the Cubase 5 demo. (call it "newasio.zip")
Uninstall the Cubase5 demo
Now replace the contents of the ASIO folder of your Cubase full prog with the contents of the ASIO folder from the Cubase 5 demo ("newasio.zip").
Drag the file 'AsioDxFd.dll' on to 'Regsvr32.exe' (in your windows system folder).
Launch Cubase 3.7 (or whatever), go to the Audio menu/System
Select 'ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver' from the ASIO device drop-down.
Click 'ASIO Control Panel'
For DirectSound (SB Live! Wave Out) AND SB Live Wave In set the buffer size to 1200, and hit return.
That's it. If you have a P3/450 or higher, you should find you have a latency of 27ms or less.

I have tried this and it works.

i'm trying to buy a hard disk recording system that is PC compatible... it's my first system and i'd really like some advice. i've got about a grand to drop.. i'm looking at digidesign's digi001 system and also emagic's logic audio. then someone else is telling me to go with pulsar ( creamware ). i'm lost and i just want to get started making music. also, does anyone know if there are any systems that work on win2000 yet ???

Digi001 is an Audio interface of excellent quality and offers only proper connectivity to the computer of analogue and digital audio devices as well as a proper mic preamp with phantom powering for connecting Condensor mics. Creamware's pulsar is more of a synth and audio interface incorporating SHARC DSP's for signal processing etc, on the card rather than relying on the computer to do all the work.

Personally, I have a bunch of devices that I make music with including many acoustic instruments therefore I personally would go for the Digi001 as it also comes with a light version of Pro-Tools, (the professionals choice for Digital audio on a computer base). The creamware however is more geared towards generating sounds and sampling. Basically, they offer similar facilities for music making other than the Digi001 doesn't make any sounds of it's own. I feel I have somewhat confused the issue but I wanted to make you understand that the Digi001 with Pro-Tools lite will give you 24 tracks of digital recording plus many midi tracks at a pro level quality depending on the spec of your computer where the Creamware is a synth based sound generating card with some good connectivity and recording facilites. Check it out in a music shop where they should have the Digi001 as well.

Ive seen audio cds w/smaller file size WAVs on them so more songs can fit, so i know it can be done. But how is it done? Ive been fiddeling w/Mp3 Maker's Music Editor w/out any luck since i dont know what im doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

1. convert the wave to an mp3....many programs do that easily.....I believe winamp can convert.

2. as has been said......reduce the quality from 16 bit 44Kz (normal) to 8 bit/22Kz for example. Windows soundrecorder will do that

3. use Wavezip...a useful compression utility that maintains the quality of your sound file but uses 30-60% the space. You can find a copy at

Hi there

You can alter the sample rate of your wavs so that they are smaller -> as well as go from stereo to mono. Obviously the quality of the wav will be affected, but depending on what you are doing it may not matter that much.

I use Cool Edit 2000 for this. Works fine.

1.Open your midi file.
2.In the arrange screen, mute any tracks you dont want to record and switch the metronome function off.
3.On two empty tracks, open a left audio and a right audio. Do this by moving to the "source" column and pressing the '+' key until you get a "left wave in" and a "right wave in"
4. Make sure that your windows mixer has "what U hear" selected as the record source.
5. Back in Cakewalk, Arm your 2 new audio tracks to record.
6. put your cursor to the place in the song that you want to start recording at and press your "record" button.

When the song has finished playing, you will have a left and right audio track which you can then export.

depends on your setup!

what soundcard? what computa? what keyboard?!!! we no psychic!

If u did it before then just do what u did that time! Think about in and out signals. If midi is sounding OK then the next step is just to record that output back through the card to .wav so mess with the card settings/sequencer options

If you are running windows 98 you can find it on Start/programs/accessories/entertainment/sound recorder. If you want this on your desktop then just drag the menu selection over to your desktop and drop

Software for getting audio samples from CD?
