MPU-401 Compatible Sound, Video and Game Controller

I need to update/install the right driver for the subject device as it is unable to support a car racing game

My system says that the manufacturer is Microsoft but their website is unable to find this device nore the driver for this.

Please help.

That would depend on which model iBook you are looking at..

Logic has a neat feature called 'freeze' which renders audio tracks so that the processing power used to run the tracks through effects or tracks that are virtual instruments wont be required. The biggest issue most people have with laptops and audio is that the hard disks are often much slower than desktop machines. That said, it depends on how many tracks you require and how long you are prepared to wait for rendering tracks when the processor gets a little clogged..

I run Logic on an upgraded G4/400 desktop (now 1.2gigs) and the machine is pretty bloody competent.

The trick is, lots of ram (768 or more to be serious) and a fast hard disk. The iBook will run a Firewire external at full speed which should give loads of tracks..

A cool CD Extraction gizmo

There's a cool CD-Audio Extraction Windows driver called "CDFS Ripper". I think it's either freeware or shareware.

The nice thing about it is that it lets you open your audio CD tracks as .WAV files without having to launch another program just to read and extract them. Since it treats audio tracks as .WAV files, there's no fussing around with extraction settings and speeds. It's easy to install also.

The down side, is that sometimes other CD(/DVD-RW) programs might modify it's registry settings, but that's really not the fault of CDFS.

Anyhow. That's probably one of the best free/shareware things I've found all year. I thought you guys/gals might like it.

I'm not sure if it runs on Windows XP, but if you're running XP, you probably don't need it because you've already got your hands full with troubleshooting the policy editor all day and night and watching all the pretty colourful icons and animations :)

p.s. - This web site is looking good these days.

Midi and Audio are two seperate entities.

The thing to do is connect the midi to and from the keyboard and Mac. Then run AUDIO/MIDI setup which is somewhere in the Utilities folder on your HD.

You then have the choice to scan for audio and midi devices. If you haven't connected an additional audio device to your Mac then all it will be able to use is the built in audio. What midi interface are you using with the Mac??

I managed to record some bass stuff last week, direct. However, I wasn't able to erase it when I followed the manual's instructions. It has been impossible to record over it; after trying, I would playback and hear the same week old material.

I then used the cut function, and now I can't record or playback for more than a fraction of a second. I can't do anything.

Any ideas?

It is quite unfortunate that you have such a visceral reaction to a mere piece of machinery. Macintosh is the preferred platform for the graphic and music production communities because of the elegance and artistic nature of the interface. We do put up with some inconvenience to have such a nice working environment. I used to use cakewalk for PC and have found a much better sequencer in Logic by Emagic. Check it out (it is cross platform, by the way!)

Awww.... it's not so bad. I use both PC and Mac.
The PC does what all PC's do, the Mac I've dedicated
strictly to music. I use Digital Performer (not
available to PC) and it is fabulous.

Cakewalk is a PC product only. (sorry) Digital
Performer (Mac only) is a strong product with
a LOT of unbelievable reviews and a long, long
successful track record. You can't go too far
wrong if you're doing music with this product.

I think you'll learn to love Mac after a while. Shoot,
I learned to love my PC and I thought that would
never happen!

I am looking for a great music data program to keep track of a huge collection that my sons youth group has in their DJ service. There are so many out there. I am looking for a program that is easy to use and that the boys can have running while they host somewhere. Is there anyone who knows of a great program?

: I don't work with cd recording at all but I think all you need is a good output from your computer to your CD equipment. As far as I know, CD audo is not a 'format' so to speak, like wav & mp3 & raw are. You just need a quality recording.

(Microsoft hasn't managed to thwart that nicity quite yet) You probably have a problem writing the file to and from the machines . The Macintosh can understand any file but the Microsoft machine limits itself to being incompatible with almost anything other than itself. This is not a stab at PC's, just stating a fact.

: This is not the best way but it should work... E-mail it to you macintosh or compress it on the PC to a zip (or similar cross platform app) file and then open it on the Macintosh. There are probably better solutions to this but I can't be more help, sorry....

Yeah I don't know how Xanga works...

But if they don't allow you to upload files on their servers, just use some other free file server. Simple as uploading them and linking to them if all you want to do is let users download. For streaming, process is the same except you add an M3U file into the works. Search will bring up plenty of how-to's.
