Re: help with uploading music

: Hi, I'm wondering if you can help me, I am in the middle of doing a web site for my friends band and they would like some music on the web site but I have no idea how to get some music on there, they can give me a cd but do you know how I can transfer the music onto the web page?
: I would appreciate a reply so I can try and make this happen, I look forward to hearing from you.
: Thanks a lot
: Kat

I personally don't know how to do it to personal web pages as I don't have one (well... ;0).

I would contact your Internet Service Provider and check it out with them.. It's probably more a Web design thing therefore, check out some web designers forums as well.

HELP!!!! convert real audio files to wave or mp3 format

I need help in finding a program or anything that can help me convert my real audio (real media) files into something that I can burn onto a cd as an audio file, like a wave or mp3 format. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HELP!!!! convert real audio files to wave or mp3 format

I have heard there is another way but do not know of it, however a company made this very program but were sued by Real Player and discontinue the program and any support for the new or older version.

I do not have a copy and the program did cost $35 you will need to look long and hard for an older version - of this program - "steambox ripper version 7 or version 9 - not any other version...

I had the same problem but I found the answer and if I can do this anyone can. Go to http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr34se.exe and download Total Recorder 3.4. It will cost you $11.95 because the trial software is only good for 40 seconds of recording. Also go to http://www.musicmatch.com/ and download the software. I believe the free one will do the trick.

Once you have the software, save the real file to your hard drive. Open the Total Recorder and then open the file you saved and play on the real player. When you start the real player hit the record button on the Total Recorder and let the entire file record. Once it is done, close the real player and then in file on the Total Recorder choose "Open". You will get a message saying you have to play and record it. Now when you look where you saved the file you will see two of them and one of them will be a wav file. You can delete the real file. Open up Music Match and open the file you want to convert. Don't play it because the conversion will not work while you do. Choose "Convert" on Music Match. A menu will come up and you will have to open your file. Highlight it on the left side and press "Start". It takes a few minutes but now you will have an MP3 of your file. Good luck!

Re: HELP!!!! convert real audio files to wave or mp3 format

Thanks for the info - I'll try that out. It's a real pain though, I wish there was an easier way to do it.

Can someone help me finding a programm that is able to do this?

can someone help me with this, i want to loop like a 16 bar beat and record some audio tracks live over it. so e.g. that 16bar beat is looped, i press space then it automaticilly records the soundcards input (live musician) until i press space again, then loops what i just recorded and the beat. then i select track 2 and do the same again. can anyone tell me a programm i can do that with?
thanks!

I would love it if you were an audio software designer. You have a beautiful knack for ergonomics and simplicity.

Sounds like you want a hardware sampler to me. Otherwise, you'll probably need something a little bit more involved than just the spacebar.

Maybe there is a combination of devices that used together could accomplish this. Samplers excell at looping, but computers excell at multitracking/overdubbing.

Since you like simplicity, I would recommend buying a more sophisticated sampler if you are about to be spending. Then you can record into your computer multitrack.

Since I assume that you are already using a computer workstation, I think you should basically use what's available as software.

I used to run loops in SoundForge XP, using the region/marker tools to add them on the fly. Typing the "m" key created a marker. I could be playing back from SoundForge XP while recording using WaveLab Lite. Both of these programs have recently upgraded their qualities.

Still, I can't help thinking that you should just use a nice program like DDClip Pro that lets you do overdubs really easily and quickly. It takes some time to configure it the first day, but after that it works very very well with audio blocks. It's like working with legos. All you have to do is copy and paste (for looping). Actually, "looping" is really a limited way of thinking about it. Actually, what you want is repetition. Copy/Paste is what you can do most easily if you're willing to try. "Looping" is really a term relegated to DJing and old-fashioned RAM-limited sampling. In a multitrack, you could copy and paste till you have your 20 minutes of repetition, then overdub over it.

Ahh! I just realized that perhaps you are seeking a way to perform LIVE audio sequencing!!! Brilliant. Forgive me for not following your genius at first!!

Still, you'd probably want to examine the problem from a hardware standpoint. Consider using a a feed from the improv musician going into your hardware mixer. Another feed would come from your sampler. One output would go TO your sampler's input, and when you'd record, it would get sampled. This would require a sampler with <b>resampling</b> capabilities. Maybe you could use two separate and inexpensive samplers to accomplish this.

I used to create live loops using a minidisc recorder deck. Once recording, I'd just press a button to create a new end/beginning. A few quick buttons and the loop would play. To create a sequence, I could program the minidisc tracks like a CD player program list. It worked well at home, and live (with a sampler, mixer, and CD-player). The only concern from a performance standpoint is to always have the seams muted, and to always have something going. This is why DJ's have started with 2 turntables and a microphone. It's nice to have at least 2 turntables, so that if one is stopped, the other goes. This logic is called <b>double-buffering</b> in computer science. Basically, you drain one bucket while you fill the other one. If you have three music-making devices, then you can do it more stylistically.

If you are using MIDI hardware devices, then you can keep them linked together in time. If you need to change drum patterns, the synthesizer keeps going. If you need to change synthesizer patches, the drum machine keeps going. Meanwhile, you could have other things going on through the mixer like CD tracks or live stuff.

Really, your issue is not so much about the gear, but about creating a seemingly seam-less performance. Sampling somebody live is always an option if you connect the dots correctly. Having control over it is a bit tricker, and usually requires hiding a "seam" of where you cut out of the "loop".

Here's a tip: In the past many performers merely used a digital delay effect with an infinite repeat mode (digitech S-100, ASR-10 keyboard).

A keyboard sampler is always an advantage for performance issues because you can assign so many samples to so many keys. Even a computer sampling program that uses a keyboard will be helpful for live triggering. I'd look into broadcasting devices too. TV and Radio people often use devices to trigger from a huge palette of live samples to "fly in" to the live mix.

software conversion

is there a software program for a pc that will convert cd audio to tabular sheet music?

Re: software conversion

In a word...no. Only MIDI files can be converted into sheet music. As yet, no-one has developed a program that can listen to a CD and work out exactly what instruments are playing which notes (and it'll probably never happen).

Screwed Driver Recognition

If someone could help me out you would be doing me a BIG favour.

When setting up my audio preferences, my midi controller (Roland PC-300 (USB)) is not in the list for my selection and I have no idea how to activate it. I am also running Reason and it works fine with that, and have also checked my system controllers and it is there as well. The USB installs the driver automatically so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. HELP!!

Driving Miss Daisy/Driving you Crazy

This sounds like it could be a Registry problem. I have experienced similar problems with DirectX and VST plug-ins requiring registry activation.

On the other hand, it could also be that a BIOS setting of your PC's processor prohibits MIDI driver recognition. Check your system BIOS during startup for any MIDI or AUDIO settings.

I wish I had some better ideas to help you. It sounds like you are taking a very wise proactive approach to solving the problem, which is great! Don't give up. Keep searching for solutions.

Contacting the product's inventors might be in order. Roland technical support/software.

logic audio 3.0

I have an old mac. Does anyone out there have logic audio 3.0?

Try Logic Fun on your old mac.

No, but you can download Logic Fun for free from germany using a dialup modem at night. It is in the educational section of the website, and the download is only available from the German part of the web site, but still runs in English.

Logic Fun works with both OMS and MIDI Manager and the SoundManager. It even works with no MIDI. It can import AIFF files, and saves to SDII files. It is very stable, but requires lots of memory. Virtual memory should be turned off to run it, but it can be left on for experimentation. Tracks can be bounced, and built-in chorus/reverb can be deactivated for more RAM.

Logic Fun works on a 4400 PPC mac running system 8.1

Re: Try Logic Fun on your old mac.

>It is very stable

Are you ^*&@#)^* kidding me? OMS is an embarassment to the musicians' world. I can barely get any application using it to run once, let alone consistently. Logic Fun is a nice Freebee, but their reliance on OMS is tantamount to priests molesting children and violating their orifices. I'd rather poke a sharp stick in my eye than deal with that excuse for software. Thank the maker for OS X.

MusicTime Deluxe (GVOX.com, etc)

If you call GVox, the phone will just keep ringing. I've gotten no response to email inquiries. Their website says nothing useful about what's going on.

I have lots of MusicTime files that I'd really like to be able to access, thank you very much.

I've found a company that'll still sell MusicTime Deluxe. They told me that GVOX has gone under. You can still get the programs from

http://www.scc.net/~aabaca/software.html

But it's not supported.

And Win2000 doesn't recognize the CDs as legal copies. Every time I've tried to install it, it says "This appears to be an illegal copy of MusicTime" and won't install. I'm hoping to find a way around it - if anybody knows, please tell!

Re: MusicTime Deluxe (GVOX.com, etc)

If GVOX went under, why is the gvox.com website still up and accepting money for their product?... I bought an upgrade, since their website (http://gvox.com/store/MTD_specifics.htm) specified that it was compatible with XP. But there are no installation instructions in the manual on the CD, no support phone# listed anywhere, no folder on the CD for windows XP, no CD install instructions in the readme.txt file under Win98-2000 folder, and the Setup.exe file under the Win98-2000 folder does not run when I double-click on it or when I try to run it at the command-line DOS prompt. I e-mailed their support about this (... I know someone must be there, as I received a reply to an e-mail I sent them inquiring about estimated delivery date). If I don't get a reply, I'll have to see what my options are legally to get my money back. This is against the law.

Re: MusicTime Deluxe (GVOX.com, etc)

Curious if any of you have had any success with any of the GVOX updates of MusicTime. The Mac OS9 is buggy in several places and extremely unstable. OS X is better until you print and the output is awful. It is hard to believe that they commercially released this software in the condiction that it was. So is it true? GVOX went under? Any update (and software updates) would be GREATLY appreciated.

MusicTime Deluxe CD installs!

I got my copy of MusicTime Deluxe from AABACA

http://www.scc.net/~aabaca/software.html

on CD, and - miracles of miracles - it installs just fine on Win2000.

I had, during the time I was waiting for it to arrive, found my old, legal CD with a previous version (MusicTime, not Deluxe) and tried to install it. That one gives the "illegal copy" error. But the new one from AABACA installs and is working fine. I don't know what the deal is. Only thing: it can't open files made with the MusicTime demo. I only made one file with the demo... perhaps I'll try to reinstall the demo, export it to midi, and then import it into the full program.

Install some Internet protection - read this it is free

This advertisement director is from “OnFlow” Data collecting programs installed with the user's knowledge are not, properly speaking, spyware, if the user fully understands what data is collected and with whom it is shared. Please check the privacy statements of a product in question.

That said I suggest you install Ad-Aware they just released a new version and it is difficult to reach the page right now so I suggest a late night download. http://www.spychecker.com/adaware.html

Ad-Aware, will remove this nuisance, and also keep let you delete other things you might have, that you may be unaware of lurking within your computer.

Secondly, I would also install ZoneAlarm this will act as a firewall, but one thing I like, it notifies you if a program is trying to send information from your computer. This can be very enlightening, when a program want access to your internet connection and you have no Idea what the program is sending. http://www.zonelabs.com/

Note the free version is in the lower left-hand corner of the page.

However, I would use this software, and send the developers a check to keep these companies alive, to protect us computer users in the future.

music downloads

Does anyone know why when downloading music there can be an occassional glich or pop noise that can be heard also during playback?

Well...

Either the file you grabbed was origionally flawed, or the problem happened during download. A lot of information is transmitted over great distances, and technology is not perfect. It is something we have to live with.

You can use a suitable MP3 or Wav editor to remove the glitches.

I'm having trouble using Cubase & could anyone help me out? Basically when I go to use timebandit for timestretching it says that the 'dongle key isn't installed properly'. What is a dongle key and where can I get it. Ignore the other message sorry mate.

I don't know if this applies to Cubase but a dongle is a bit like the head of a monitor cable that goes into the back of your CPU. It's like a key, you need it to run the program, so if you havn't got one then your pretty much fucked. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

Re: Cubase VST 3.52, dongle key not intsalled properly??!! What'

You usually get the dongle when you buy the software. So if it's cracked or second-hand, you mightn't get a dongle thrown in.
