Another possibility is that your soundcard is set up for speaker level output instead of line level output. I just discovered that some PCI soundcards have little switches or "jumpers" on the printed circuit board for making these level changes. Actually, this kind of switching is common many audio devices where the level can be switched from -20, -10, or +4 dBu.

A more likely cause for clicks and pops is that your ASIO (or other driver) buffers are too small. Perhaps you need more buffers too. Even though soundcard buffers can be very small and responsive to visual changes, the bigger the buffer is, the less likely clicks will happen.
The higher your sampling rate, the bigger and more buffers you could possibly need.

On my system, I chose to set the buffers to be equal to an entire second of audio. At 96kHz, one second = 96000 samples. At 44.1kHz, one second = 44100 samples. You can get to the configuration screen in Cubasis in the window where you choose drivers. Select the option to configure the drivers and hopefully you'll discover the ASIO or DirectSound setup application. The buffers need to be set for each supported sample rate separately.

I usually used about 5 buffers, each 19200 samples long.

If your monitor is set for 24bits or 32bits, (or "true-color" or "millions of colors") reduce it to just 16bit colors. If you have 3D optimization routines enabled, you might try disabling that video gaming stuff too. Perhaps it would be helpful to create a second login password just for cubasis work, and another windows login password just for games and internet.

I'll say that I can not solve you problem, but I have the same trouble in Win 98, I had followed the instructions of the Microsoft web help (showing a hyperlink when you click the button of "detail" in the error message box), download the media player 7.1 and directX 8.1 then removed your media player and reinstalled the player 7.1 and directX 8.1, then got the MPEG testing file, it will be played in Media Player, but I still can not play VCD in Media Player, if you can get any solution, please pass it to me, thanks!

If it plays through your speakers, then you can record anything you want. The quality depends on your sound card, and the software you use.

Look in the software section, above for audio… There are lots of differed branded software available, and users comments about that particular software…

If you do not have a tin ear like me then the speaker out to a quality tape, and then back in with LPrecorder, as audio might not be up to your standard.

The Quality, of recorder software, sound cards, cables, and shielding of electrical interference to make the listener happy can be a function of a large bankbook…

If you want to try to approximate music studio results, it is time to cash in your retirement funds.

Do you have software, which will let you convert your music from MP3 to ..WAV file format. Since you do not have a MP3 player? I use a program a free program to do this one function,

I use Cdex and it meets my standards, although I use some other software to clean music produced on inexpensive media. Then now have version 1.40 available in several languages. If she has upgraded to Windows XP – they have a section about that also. If she has a MAC then I would put that in the header so you will receive that advice, from someone experienced with the MAC software.

Most of this recurring delay stuff depends upon the speed of your modem. You could increase the prebuffering size of the media player, but this would not always prevent the delays, and the initial delay time would be greater.

A nice way to improve conditions is to reconfigure your modem settings. On most PCs and macs, modems default settings are good for local area networks and simple connections, but bad for home internet stuff. This still applies to cable modem connections and DSL and stuff, but mostly applies to dial-up modems.

Keep in mind, many system configuration tools can modify the modem settings, but can do other things like change the desktop colours or the startup screens or icon arrangements, etc.

Start by browsing system utilities. Don't be afraid to read about the more complex utilities.

If the utility mentions changing MTU (maximum transmission unitsizes, then you are on the right track.

If you are using a dial-up modem, then you MUST read the manual over and over again and experiment with modem intialization strings to set your modem up in a faster way. Modems are very tricky, because they have 3 or 4 "brains" telling them how to operate. If you had 3 or 4 brains, you'd get confused too.

Another thing to be aware of, most dialup modems can reach 56k speeds, even if they are not officially 56k modems. This is because modem speed is not actually a literal rating of speed.

A better term would be "modem vocabulary" rather than "speed", because it's the modem's protocol vocabulary that determines how much information it can relay or receive without delays.

If you are using a mac, you should download the Modem Script Generator, from Apple.com. It will allow you to set higher speeds under many circumstances.
