That's well out of order...
You think the world world should know everything about computer recording by now do you??
You think the whole world is American??
You think an American deserves to die because they all don't know how to do audio conversions on a computer..
How childish can you get. I can't believe the age of some of the posters around here...
ONE LAST THING, and listen closely. Being English teaches you one thing... never drag the English/Irish conflict into a conversation in public unless you want to risk having your hands chopped off. The issue of you dragging bombing of innocent people stories into a unrelated tantrum is the lowest form of abuse on that subject that I have witnessed. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Re: I can't believe that you are all so stupid
yes you are all stupid dumbasses who cannot even figure out how to convert wav to mp3 etc...
not even cracks can you find...haha !
Re: Lazy-Exploitation-Stupidity
Everybody's got to learn, sometime. Give them time. At least they are looking and asking, and not insulting. Maybe people spend more time making music than downloading [...]kz!
Don't be so surprised: This whole mp3 culture is all about lazy-exploitation-stupidity.

problems after getting out of suspend mode
The installing software of BPM studio is succesfull and is working perfectly.
Only after my PC is getting out of suspend mode, I get a blue screen with the following message:
Fatal error 0D on 0028:C142AFF6, possibly you can proceed etc. etc.
and after pressing a button error 0028:C142A240 in VxD
called from 0028:C023ac97 in VxD. PERF(05)+00000141.
After these all my PC is jammed and have to shutdown the power; even after deinstalling the BPM software I still get the above errrors.
The problems are only when getting out of the suspend mode.
The specifications of my PC:
Packard Bell Platinum 500 Mhz/128 MB 13 GB

Diagnosis/Prescription/Contingency Plan: About Virtual Device D
Here is the goal of the following solution: Replace corrupted/instable virtual files with hopefully better real files. The files are device files. We can obtain real copies from scouring the Windows installation CD-ROM disk. The common precautions about editing your system files/folders and BIOS settings apply.
I learned this solution by reading about it, and trying it myself. It is a typical Microsoft Windows bug. It's not your fault.
The "VxD" noun indicates that there was an error processing a VxD file. This stands for Virtual Device Driver. A Virtual Device Driver file is basically a file within a file, a hidden file. It's of the device (or device driver) type.
This is a common Windows problem. It's not your fault. This error is caused by a misread (or miswrite) of data, which is normal in contemporary computers. It sucks, but it's normal with hard drives and RAM.
One way to reduce the possibility of these kinds of errors is to set your disk cache to a very low amount. Reducing the disk cache makes sure that data sent to the drive for writing doesn't linger in RAM enough to get corrupted by some program bug. RAM is vulnerable, so the more of it you use for disk actions, the faster yet more vulnerable disk actions can be. This is also true on a Mac. Be aware, however, that files can also be corrupted by a great many other causes.
To solve the problem, you should browse your system control panel (the one which lists hardware devices). Find the screen (for each device) that lists related files. For example, for your soundcard, there is at least one listing as a device, and a corresponding list of soundcard files used to run it. After you find this screen, you need to look for all files that list a filename and another filename in parenthesis next to it. This will look something like GenVRT.VXD (VRTLIB.DRV). You will know for sure, because it will mention either VXD or Virtual Device Driver. Now that you know the file names, write it down on a piece of paper. Do this for all of your hardware devices listed in the system panel. If no files are listed, that is ok. When you are done, look at the list at note which ones are VXD files. Be sure to write down exactly where each file is located. This means writing down the exact folder path.
Now comes the fix-it part. What we need to do is to put a fresh copy of certain device files into your system. This is because VXD files have a great knack for getting corrupted. The best solution is to use a REAL FILE instead of a VIRTUAL FILE. Luckily, often the Windows installation disk has the REAL FILE on it, even though it chose to install just the VIRTUAL ones.
Using a search program, locate the files on the Windows installation CD-ROM disk. They may be hiding inside of .CAB files. You will probably have to look manually. CAB files are basically special folders that are harder to open. When you find each file that you can, make a copy on your hard disk.
Now that you have copied the needed files onto your hard drive, you can put them where they belong. Since you wrote down the exact folder path locations for the device files, you can use this list to install the REAL FILES so that the system doesn't rely on the VIRTUAL FILES.
This has nothing to do with RealAudio or Virtual Drives or Virtual RAM or whatever, so don't get confused.
Hopefully, when you restart the problem will not occur so soon again under the same circumstances. It would be great if it stopped permanently, but it's only a matter of time before the next disk error. To help insure a stable solution, you should run a few diagnostic tests before you commit to working again.
A potential workaround is also to change your PC's BIOS settings so that it does not halt on these minor errors. Every time you see the blue error screen (Blue Screen Of Death: BSOD), this indicates that the processor is talking to you. Processor settings are edited via the BIOS. You can learn how to change these settings during startup by reading your motherboard's manual. If you don't have one, look online for info. Be sure to specify the exact model and type of motherboard/processor you have.
Once you know how to edit the BIOS settings, go to the screen for setting error responses. Bear in mind that computer errors are frequenty, so it's not so bad to turn down the halt screens as long as you run some adequate fix-it programs regularly. More importantly, note that the BSOD warning my indicate a more serious hardware conflict than a mere read/write error. You may have hardware devices that are fighting each other and using your computer's RAM and busses and CPU as a battlefield.

Can someone help me please with tapes and Mp3s?
Can anyone tell me what I'd need to do to get audio from a cassete tape recorded onto my computer in Mp3 format?
Thanks if you can help.
Re: Can someone help me please with tapes and Mp3s?
Plug tape decks audio output into the audio input (both line level) of the computers soundcard.
Find a program in this sites massive file area that records from your computers audio input. Record the files in as either Mp3 or more than likely as a wave file. You could then get a wave to mp3 convertor from the same said file area.

Reducing track length
I want to include only the first minute of a couple of songs from a CD onto a web page. Can anyone help with a simple, cheap package that will let me reduce the tracks like this.
Many thanks for your help.
Lesley
Re: Reducing track length
Have a look in the software section under audio editors (e.g Cool Edit). All will allow you to cut sections out of music.
One thing you should be aware of is that if the music you're considering using is from a commercial CD, then you'll be in breach of copyright.

Re: Reducing track length - Thank you
Thanks for your help Andy. Luckily I'm doing the site for the composer so there's no copyright problems.

BACKTRACKS!!! aaarrggghh help!
hi
im from new zealand and i have a vocal exam coming up and i was wondering if any one knows where i can get a backtrack for "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" to put on a cd. I dont know if its possible to get them free, but its kinda hard coz i need it soon and it will take a while if its being posted. trying to spend as little $$ as possible

Contact the original composers or quit whining.
You should be looking up Karaoke sites. Be prepared to spend money. Backtracks aren't very common in general for any artist. What you call "backtracks" don't really exist.
When an artist does a recording, it does not matter if there are vocals or not. The song is the song. It is usually (but not always) recorded as separate tracks: each musical part has it's own track. In order to get the song without the vocals, you would need to get the original multitrack recording. This is usually not ever possible without a lawyer unless you are someone involved with the group.
Sometimes "minus (-) mixes" are made. These are each mixdowns - voice or mixdown - guitar, or mixdown - horns for example. Minus mixes are also not available for regular consumers like us. You have to be a seriously-backed artist or producer or recording engineer or a lawyer who works for one to get these too.
Possibly you have been mislead because so many Karaoke disks are out there. These disks are especially made for Karaoke. You can buy them from Karaoke catalogs perhaps, but I imagine they are expensive!. Another source of confusion is the fact that remix albums and EP's (extended play singles) often feature instrumental versions of popular songs. This is especially the case for 12 inch vinyl recordings which professional DJ's like to use. The exception is DJ's and remixers who simply edit or resample a song without the vocal sections.
Don't be duped by fads and trends. Making and performing original music is not always easy. It may be easy to do karaoke, but you are standing on the backs of the people who struggled to create the actual song. If you want to perform the vocals for the song that somebody else sweated over, be prepared to have to pay. They deserve it. This is not a new trend, either--Karaoke is!
