Digital Performer

Hello everyone, I just bought the latest Digital Performer and I am new at it (Brand new) don't know a thing about it. I am looking for good sounds (virtual sounds) like Rhodes, piano, strings, drums the whole 9yards, so I can get started using and learning the DP if anyone has any idea or even great sounds please help a brother out I just want to get my tracks on! Thanking you in advance!!!

The vst and mas are more related to plug-ins that are compatible with the various audio programs. The plug-ins are moreso additional effects, rather than virtual sounds. I think that you may be able to get a warmer final sound even from your jd 800 if you experiment with some of the built-in effects of D.P. The mas plug-ins are compatible with D.P. and the mas (motu audio system) helps make the program handle audio instead of just MIDI. You can check out the FX under the Audio menu or the mixing board........ Good luck

You might need to consider a software synth for your sounds if you don't have a hardware one because D. Performer doesn't contain actual sounds, although there are plenty of effects and controls for audio once you have it recorded. Fortunately, I have external keyboards and microphone for recording music and vocals into D.P. (earlier version) Again, once you get the sound into the computer/program, D.P. is an awsome tool for manipulating audio and midi. Hope this helps

Thanks for you reply and yes it helped, But I have a roland jd800 synth but I find it sounds cold that is why I am looking to understand how does these virtual sounds work(like vst & mas)and how I can get some nice warm sounds, to commence rockin some tracks. Only use top quality music CD's

On a PC, there is a program called WaveTrim which is very useful, but not totally perfect. The nice thing about it, is that you can run multiple copies of the same program and process many files at the same time. If you have a Mac, SndSampler comes with a batch processor, so you can schedule files to be processed in special ways. CoolEdit also has some nice batch functions on a PC.

Another nice trick is to use a noise gate as you are making your recordings so that you won't have to deal with the static at the beginning and ends of tracks.

Still, the best technique is just to use your ears, and a good editor.

In all my years, I've never had distortion or white noise when extracting a track off a CD, and unless the inside of your PC is filled with EM interference, you shouldn't.

Think about it - your CD-ROM drive reads the binary data off the disk. It checks the data against the checksum to see if there are any errors. If not, it carries on reading. How can you introduce distortion and white noise into a error-checked data stream?

What you need is a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/WinDAC32/">WinDAC32</a>.

This software makes <b>D</b>igital <b>A</b>udio <b>C</b>opies.

Some software "listens" to the CD through your
soundcard so their results aren't exact whereas
software like this copies the data rather than the
audio and uses checksums to make sure it is an
exact reproduction.

PLEASE HELP recording in vegas audio

I would REALLY appreciate anybody's help. When I record in Vegas Audio there is a lot of interference and static, but when I record in Soundforge it is fine, a really clear sound. Of course I need to be recording in Vegas Audio so that I can layer and mix. How do I get Vegas Audio to record as clean as Soundforge?

burn audio book mp3 to cd but can't listen in mp3 player

is there anyone can tell me how i can burn those audio book (which is .mp3) into cd so that i can listen it in my cd/mp3/vcd player. i tried burning by using the easy cd creator 5. i used the data cd but it is not working in my mp3 cd player. please help me!!!

Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum handles MP3 files perfectly well. However, you must remember that the disc has to be written to ISO 9660 format (i.e. 8 character file names).

Windows Xp ruining my life!

I recently bought a new pc with windows xp only to find that my logic audio 4.0 programme will not install.Does anybody know a way around this without having to buy a new version of logic?

If you are a registered user of version 4.0 of Logic then the upgrade to the up and coming Logic 5.0 should support Windows XP although you would have to check that. It couldn't cost you much..

The end of the beginning of VST

Email or call up anybody at mix magazine (mixonline.com) Bettter yet, ask somebody at Steinberg. Steinberg invented the technology. I'm sure they could send you a nice brochure about their keen clever invention. Personally, I think that moduling such as these, lego style, is the best route for future computing. Small sizes, simple use, easy installation, powerful modeling. Programs SHOULD be modular, but operating systems SHOULDNT!. Meanwhile, hardware SHOULD be modular. This is why so many synthesizer companies are dying yet computer hardware companies are doing alright. Computers have modular hardware. Hardware synths don't, which is a big big shame. If manufacturers of hardware synths would simply make them using PC parts, they could spearhead the market by making audio systems that won't ever crash. Silly rabbits.

What type of music are you attempting to create? Rap, Rock, etc? I make my own beats often, mostly rap, but no lyrics (I've never attempted to sing(Rap) ^_^). I use Fruityloops 3.4. I don't know if I can help you, But I can try.

The best thing to do is to find your local music store (the kind that sell instruments, not records). Most will have a board where people can put up business cards and so on. You may be lucky and find someone who will look over your lyrics and maybe come up with a tune or two.

an Outdated music program

It must be over 12yrs old since I purchased the MusicTime program for writing music, the problem is that I had put some copywritten music to a CD. I have purchased a computer with Windows ME and the old installation disks I have will not download the program
