my CD burner for VS1680 has bitten the dust. Am informed that the Roland endorsed replacement burner is extremely expensive -= $1500 Australian dollars. Can anybody tell me of any other CD burners that are compatible with - i.e. will read and write with - the Roland VS 1680

I am selling my VS1680 and the CD burner that came with it. Both are in excellent condition and I've never had a problem.
Re: CD burner for Roland VS 1680
There are a couple of recorder models from the (Plextor) company that are supposed to be compatible with the VS series. I don't have the exact model # in front of me but if you check out www.vsplanet.com they have more precise information in the forums that are broken down by VS-880, 1680, 2480, etc.

Remixing music - for the interested beginner
I am in a band called "Melodicy", and we are a very experimental band from LONDON ONTARIO CANADA. We are a three piece (Guitar, Bass, and Drums) but we also use a computer to run ORIGINAL DRUM and BASS, Break beats, and pounding House beats alongside. The end result is a sort of FOLK FUSION.
Over the past few years of Remixing for various artists like WAX MANNEQUIN, EDDIE WARREN, JOE BALDUCCHI, and BALLS FALLS. I have been asked the same questions over and over again. I will now attempt to write some of the more common issues with remixing in the hopes that it helps those of you just starting out with this shiz.
First of all, I should say that remixing bands (or acoustic artists like I focus on) is a very time consuming and sometimes painful job. "NATURAL" music isn't perfect, and falls in and out of "Perfect" time like drum machines have. THe result is that, unless you are working for ROBOTS, your samples will not fit tightly.
Here is how to beat that.
Take the song you are going to work with. Sample the ENTIRE SONG, either in chunks or in one pass.
MAKE SURE IT IS A GOOD SAMPLE RATE (44100).
Then you should take it over to some software that can make loops (SOUNDFORGE, RECYCLE, COOLedit, etc) I recomend Recycle, as it is a no nonsense program just for loops.
HINT #1:
Make sure that when you take your samples that you begin your loops on the FIRST BEAT of a bar, and not even that, but the VERY first beat!!!! Ugh. Sloppy sound sucks.
When taking your loops you want to work in 1 or 2 bar loops. Needless to say, this can be a ton of samples when you are finished (a whole song can be 30-50 samples!) THE POINT TO TAKING SO MANY LITTLE SAMPLES is that when you take them over to a multi tracker, or a .wav stacker (Like ACID) you can make them seamless to you electronic beats and sounds.
When you have your smaples take them over to your stacker or multi-tracker. I recomend ACID for one very good reason. ACID will automaticly stretch or compress your samples to match a specified tempo, and is very rarely wrong. Powerful software.
Stack them one after another to chain play. If you play the song, it should sound like the original, without glitches and skips. IF YOU GET SOME GLITCHES, your samples are screwed (probably just one or two samples, another advantage of taking many small samples.)
If it plays smooth, test it with a looped drum beat, either homemade or other. I like to use samples in the rough style that I am going to remix the song in (eg. break, jungle, house). Running a good loop with your samples will expose any discrepencies in time and tone.
After your samples sound good, build your beats, add your extra sounds.
BE TASTEFULL.
When you remix you shouldn't lose the "feel" and "soul" of the song. If it's light, keep your beats light and tight. If it's heavier, than loosen your drums up with sounds that ring out a bit more (rides/toms). Don't kill someone elses emotional song with your bumping booty bass.
The last and probably the most improtant thing is to play it for the artist BEFORE you release it. They will have ideas you never thought of, and seeing as it is THEIR SONG, chances are they should have the final say. I usually call an artist the moment I have my sample loops arranged and my "test beat" in place. If you are thinking jungle, and they want house, you should probably catch that early in the process.
If you are going to rearange the song, like using vocal clips over house beats or a constant loop of a piece of the guitar solo over some breaks, be VERY TASTEFULL. It is soo easy to loose the attitude and feel of the original song by hacking it up into chunky bits. Funky, yes. Shlumpy, no.
Be sure to watch your tones and fequencies. If you are using a huge 808 kick over an acoustic artist, often the tone of the drum will create dischord with the music playing. Sometimes pitchshifting will save your ass. Sometimes, no.
Speaking of pitchshifting, it isn't a good idea to pitchshift your music samples (particually vocals) too much. Just use a couple steps up or down. If your artist begins to sound like a Squirrel, or like the Devil, chances are you are warping the original sound too much an you will lose that elusive "Feel" you need to desperately hold onto.
I hope that some of this information is helpful, I wish I could have read something like this when I started out. If you would like to ask me anything, or would like some remixes done (My rates are VERY reasonable) I can't promise I will know how to help but my life has an open door policy. Feel free to contact me.
Peace for now.

For the Love of God, Please Help, recording in Vegas Audio
I would REALLY appreciate anybody's help. When I record in Vegas Audio there is a lot of interference and static, but when I record in Soundforge it is fine, a really clear sound. Of course I need to be recording in Vegas Audio so that I can layer and mix. How do I get Vegas Audio to record as clean as Soundforge?

My guess is that your sound card is not true full duplex, and is just faking it. So it spends a few milliseconds (or micro) recording and a few playing, so the overall result is it sounds like @#$
Get a new sound card. the SB Live is cheep now

MusicMatch Jukebox 1.0 for Linux
Your page about MMJ suggests that the linux version will both read and write windows media files.
I'm quite sceptical about this could you let me know if this is something you have actually tried.
Thanks.

need information
Dear Friends
Hi!
I wish to get basic concepts of Yamaha's Piano. I would like to know all such technical data they used in their Piano. What software they use and what is basic concept they use in their system to devlop.
Kindly provide me all such information and do the needful.
Thanking you in advance.

Re: need information
Do you want to build one at home? ha ha ha... much cheaper to shell out the bucks than to try to develop one from ground up, unless you are going into production and can afford the development costs.

Re: need information
This type of stuff is proprietry to Yamaha, and they're not likely to make it generally available. You don't find the likes of Roland and Korg telling everyone how their synths work, as this would allow rival manufacrurers to copy the inner workings, thus removing any advantage.

why do you guys SUCK
Everytime i try to download something ITS SH*T either the zip file is damaged or the file is corrupt this or that why?!?!? you guys have real good programs that noboady can use again why?? someone tell whats wrong with this site or what am i doing wrong.......
Re: why do you guys SUCK
This site only seems to link to files on other servers. If a file is stuffed, you may as well let the software author know. Oh yeah, always use the latest winzip or whatever. Using old versions sometimes means you can't open files.

ok so ive seen all the suggestions you guys have listed and ive tried everyone of them. ive also talk to three different tech support people at gateway and they still have nothing to tell me that i havent heard. i will pay money to the person that can fix my problem. its not a device conflict. ive updated, uninstalled, reinstalled my sound card driver about a trillion times and the volume control bar is completely missing from my desktop. somebody has to know the answer to this. pleeeeeaaaassseeee help. im wasting my life away trying to figure this thing out!
Re: mmsystem002
I tried most suggestions but none seemed to work. Don't format your harddrive or get rid of all your songs! Stupid suggestions! I ran msconfig and unchecked everything but System Tray and then un-installed and re-installed my sound driver. That finally is what worked. Hope it works for you too. I just wish I knew how to prevent it from happening again.

audio to midifiles
how i can create a midi file and what program should i a get , is there a program that can create a midi files out of the audio from a c.d.??? whit what program
Re: audio to midifiles
Unless the music is very simple (i.e one instrument), you can't make a MIDI file from a CD, because there is no way to determine which notes are being played and which instrument is playing them. As for creating MIDI files, any of the sequencing packages will do.

BIG PROBLEMS!
I have my Sony Receiver hooked into my computer using the headphone jack, and then turning it into a pair of RCA cables. Obviously, this is not the ideal way to have it set up, but anyhow, I get a large buzzing noise when I use the receiver with the computer. Any suggestions how I can reduce the noise? THANKS!
Re: BIG PROBLEMS!
Hmmm... You should get away from using that headphone output. It's amplified for starters and isn't matched for the audio input on your computer...
