name of song
I can't think of the name of this song, it sounds kind of like New Order or something. The main chorus is "What do you want from me, It's not how it used to be, You've taken my life away, ruining everything, ect, please help ASAP
VH1 Tales from the Crypt!
Erasure? Depeche Mode? Lightning Seeds? Electronic? Pet Shop Boys? Bernard Sumner? The Cure? I'd place my bets on a song by Erasure or Electronic.
You should go to a gothic chat room or a chat room for people who like the Smiths (Morrissey). Seems like people who like New Order always like Morrissey and/or the Cure. Whatever the song is, it sounds really *gay*. And I mean that in the 1940's sense of the word. Hahahaha.
Nose reduction(electrical engineers please help)
Hi,
I work with Soundforge to record music from vinyl records. My computer is a little bit far away from my stereo so i am using a Pyramid car audio amplifier(PB610GX)(Information about it at the Pyramid car audio website) when recording. The amplifier gives a lot of noise when connected to my soundcard, and it gives much more if i touch the heatsink of it.How can i reduce the noise from the amplifier? The output i think is 8 ohm .To feed the amplifier,i am using a small black 13 volt powersupply. Can i get some suggestions about connecting my computers soundcard to a amplifier without raising the noise level.I'm using a Creative Labs audio pci soundcard.
Many thanks in advance
Re: Nose reduction(electrical engineers please help)
A lot of these kinds of noise issues are due to using equipment that isn't designed to be low-noise. In other words, it sounds like you are hosed. The following suggestions, therefore, probably won't help any. Although I am not an electrical engineer, I have some ideas. I suggest #8 the most.
1) make sure all your devices are connected to the same grounded power outlet (not any others in the room)
2) use XLR connections only. XLR cable connections are inherently designed to reduce line noise. This probably won't work because not many soundcards have XLR connectors, and car stereos NEVER have them.
3) Turn off your refrigerator/microwave/air-conditioner/dehumidifier/washer/dryer. These big electrical devices typically dirty up the electrical circuitry of a house
4) Keep all of your powercords away from each other and anything else electrical. Electrical interference is often due to overlapping electromagnetic or electrostatic fields. The further away, the less noise. Tangled wires will usually be noisier than untangled wires. Especially around a computer.
5) Don't touch the heatsink. The amplifier heatsink may or may not be grounded. I'm not sure, because car stereos don't use AC, but use DC. Either way, it probably is, but it's grounding is bound to differ from the computer's ground, and the soundcard's ground. I would suggest connecting the computer chassis to the amplifier chassis, but since both of these devices probably generate tons of their own noise, it probably would only make the problem worse. Still, maybe it's worth a try.
6) Try putting your soundcard into a different PCI slot. Maybe the current slot is too close to another noisy component.
7) Turn off your flouresscent lights and dimmer switched lights. These are inherently electrically noisy.
8) Stop using your car amp, and just buy some long cables or move your stereo. All electrical devices and cables generate electrical noise. This is the result of physics.
9) Try using another brand of cables. Keep channels on separate wires. Sometimes poorly shielded or separated stereo cabling causes noisiness. This can happen especially when you are trying to use too many audio signal adapters.
Where to find music charts for guitar already made by players
I need to find out if there is a site or location where musicians have already charted out songs and where to find. Creating chart for musicians take such a long time so anything I can fid would be great.
Re: Where to find music charts for guitar already made by player
Run that query is Teoma and see what you come up with, that search engine is the best by far.

what is the easiest recording software for tech-challenged songw
I am a singer-songwriter making the switch from a fostex 8 trk hard disc recorder to computer for recording quality home demos. I am planning on getting a new imac, plus the MOTU 828. Wondering what is the EASIEST and best software program for a technical nincompoop like myself. I hear Logic Audio is the best but more difficult operate, I've heard Pro-Tools is much easier but not as good, I've heard Cubase has better plug-ins than Pro-tools, also Digital Performer is good, etc etc. My goal is to facillitate tracking and editing, get good plug-ins, good EQ, vocal fx, compression etc. and improve over-all sound quality for basic pop songs. If the system is too complicated, I'm afraid I'll never use it. Thanks. lucie
KEEP YOUR 8-Track. I beg of you!
Whatever you do, DONT SELL YOUR FOSTEX 8-TRACK!!!
If you keep your multitrack, then you will have a much more powerfull and error-tolerant system than if you get rid of it.
You will be able to do more complex mixdowns faster, and you will have a portable system.
If you say you are a technical nincompoop and you mean it, then you are also a masochist if you go ahead and buy a computer to make life easier.
<b>
Computers are never a finished product:
1) computers cant run without software. since software rarely works without lots of upgrades and often NEVER works bug-free, a new computer is like a new car that is completely done being manufactured. Maybe it's missing some sparkplugs, the airconditioner breaks the engine alternator belt--whatever.
2) computers require constant nurturing. a computer requires frequent upgrades, antivirus scans, defragmenting, disk-error correcting, and reconfiguration. Without this kind of regular attention, it's problems will get increasingly worse, and it will always be a source of frustration. A computer is like a baby that never really grows up.
3) computer repair software is inherently flawed. Computer repair software is already doomed, even if you DO have a perfectly working system. It's a matter of time before a director gets corrupted or a critical system file is improperly addresseed. Since repair software is just as vulnerable, sometimes you will have no solution but to reformat your entire system if all of your repair software is on corrupted media. Since all data media forms are corruptable, there is always this possibility.
Even your system's PRAM can fuck up. Sometimes everything is running ok, and somehow something changes the battery-backed parameter ram (PRAM) of your system. FREEWARE demos and SHAREWARE programs are TERRIBLY GUILTY for this. They often try to hide their registration codes and counters in rarely-visited places such as the PRAM or a not-yet-used part of your hard drive(s). Be prepared for mysteriously evasive bugs like these. Even when you DO reset the PRAM, be prepared for a whole slew of conflicts being born from the SOLUTION!!! Resetting the PRAM resets factory defaults.

Correction: Beware the system bugs
Just to spite me, it seems that my previous post was censored by somebody (or something) mean. The word "not" and the letter "y" was eliminated from my post without my permission. This either proves my point at the bugginess of computers or enhanced my previous posts about security flaws of the internetworkings and home computers. I was indeed referring to "directory" and not "director". Furthermore, i spoke of computers being like cars that are *N*O*T* done being manufactured... ie... incomplete. I hate it when the system fucks up my data. Computers suck, electro rocks. How ironic.
It also seems that my statement about how presets tend to SŸck was also censored!
How rude!!

I ain't no Mac user but I can probably offer some advice. You're planning on spending a fair bit of money for 'basic pop songs'. Just remember not to put the cart before the horse. Everyone raves about ProTools and it is widely used professionally. You can should out ProTools <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/ProTools_mac/">here</a> and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cubase_mac/">Cubase</a> as well.

Q: MAC streambox vcr webcast ripper????
hi there...!
I've been hoping to find software for the Mac to record the audio of a webcast - just like the PC's streambox vcr 3.0 does. But now i'm looking for the Mac version.... Anyone have a clue where to find it, or what's the best software for this job to go look for...????
Thanks for now, hope to hear from ya...!

Khaos Pad
I am putting my turntables and mixer through my P.C and was wondering if there was anything like the Khaos Pad but in a software format
if u could get back to me I would be most greatful.
thanks, Kevan
Not sure
There is a mac program that uses the mouse, but I couldn't get it to work properly on mine. Your project sounds really cool, though. You should get a PC kit called ANALOG BOX. It's freeware, and allows you to make a little kit of components. Since it works with plug-ins, you might be able to create a mouse-related component that modulates an audio component. It's kinda like Turbosynth on the mac. That's all i remember for now.
You should also check out the Virtual Audio Cable. That will help you route audio signals to and from your soundcard with fewer hassles. It's basically a signal splitter that bypasses ASIO, DirectX, and Windows sound, in order to provide some extra sound drivers that are a bit more flexible. You can use Virtual Audio Cable to route audio from a playback program to a recording program. This is nice for mean shareware that doesn't let you record until you register. This may sound unethical, but why should I trust a demo program that won't let me try it's main feature ????!!? that's ridiculous.
Style converter
I am looking for style converter program to convert Roland E-86 styles to E-500 style format.
Thank you very much.
replacing tracks when burning mp3 to cd
I searched for this answer myself but could not find it. I apologize if it has been asked before. Most of the albums I have downloaded do not have the track listings. When using Easy CD Creator to make audio CD I would like to put them back in. Is this possible?
I will check back for an answer.

Latency Problems
My Electribe and fruity loops won't sync. It was a succesful midi hook up, when I press play on the one, they both start, but one of them is slightly behind, and continues to shift in and out of sync. I tried adjusting latency on my M Audio sound card without successs. Please help if you can offer any solutions.
13 issues about lagging MIDI/Audio (Shazzaboogaloopus)
1)<b>A lesser known issue is that of continuous midi controllers such as pitch bend and modulation. These are the few midi commands which can overwhelm ANY midi setup. If you do a lot of pitchbending effects or panning or modulation or whatever using a wheel or knob, then you are adding TONS more information to the MIDI stream. Since these are continuous controllers, their information is instantaneous and powerful and comes in big gulps. Since the Electribe series is known for it's sequencable knob-twiddling... i'll bet it's transmitting a bunch of continuous controller data for your filters or whatever. Sorry dude. </b>
2) Also, make sure that the slave device is set to recieve full MIDI timecode or MIDI clock *AND* SPP (Song Position Pointer). It sounds like your slave device is getting at least the START command, and maybe even a BPM command, but nothing else. This could be the case if it shifts out of sync and never catches back up.
3) Another problem could be that one or both of the machines is overheating. Timing circuits are guaranteed to be inaccurate when overheated.
4) Some devices (most) use inaccurate BPM's, especially hardware devices. This is one advantage of computer sequencing. A GOOD computer MIDI program can calculate a BPM to at least 3 decimal places (87.272 BPM). Lots of programs CLAIM to be able to sync up BPMs, but if they can't deal with this kind of precision, the errors will be audible. Old MIDI gear usually starts to have trouble first, because the capacitors and resistors wear out.
5) Computers have trouble with this because of errors and bad math coprocessor chips. This was a specific PC defect that was VERY common a few years ago. I imagine that it's still a problem for many. Recently I experienced similar math-rounding errors on a PowerPC mac while running some old 68K (Mac SE) software.
6) Another kind of trouble could be if you are using USB as a MIDI connection. USB is NOT the way to go for audio. Too many other devices are adding their own data to the stream.
7) I had a friend who used to have sync problems with his computer. He cleverly discovered that the burden on the computer's CPU for processing MIDI and audio and other commands was enough to slow it down noticeably.
8) I would keep trying. Check to make sure that you haven't created a MIDI feedback loop, which is bad. That can happen if you have MIDI going to and from the same device with or without another device.
9) Another issue could be other system control panels, programs, extensions, TSR's, control strip modules, taskbar helpers, taskbar applications, etc.
10) If you have a PC, be sure to totally turn off and remove the task scheduler. This dumb program is almost always turned on, and hardly ever does it's job. It ALWAYS slows down a system. Also, be sure that you've turned off application logging via the application compression settings in the disk defragmenter. Typically, disk defragmenting set to optimize applications doesn't really work that well, and requires every single read or write command to be logged. This, of course, is HELL for your system, so you'd better turn it off and delete the APPLOG folder in your Windows system folder.
There is actually a registry hack that works really well by just finding the entry for Taskmonitor.exe (or whatever it is) and replacing it with a harmless program such as Memory max. That way, instead of permanently slowing your computer down at startup, it will speed it up!
You will have to do some tricky research on this. I unfortunately don't have a pc any longer, so I can't help you much more with this. Sorry. Then again, you might have a mac.
11) Make sure you turn off virtual memory, and reduce the virtual memory cache file size to 0 (zero). It's great if you can successfully delete it and keep it set to zero. On a mac, you can delete the VM file as soon as you set it's SYSTEM attribute to false. This can be done using freeware DiskTop. Deleting the VM file using a security eraser is a nice privacy increase also, since virtual memory files are notorious for security breaches via file recovery. Etc. Etc. blah blah blah.
12) Too many powerful plug-ins. Both Virtual instruments and virtual effects require both RAM and intensive processor attention (intensive CPU-time). Sometimes, just one really powerful plug-in (such as FFT-related spectral shifting) is all it takes to bog down a system.
13) Since you are dealing with a resource shortage with no real solution other than buying more ram or upgrading your processor, you need to make sacrifices. If you have already purged your system of unneeded junk, another trick is to turn down your monitor resolution to 256 instead of truecolor (24 or 32 bits). You can gain even more megabytes by shrinking the monitor window size to something tiny link 680x320. This is the kind of harmless, impermanent sacrifice that I like, because it always yields actual results. On some systems, even turning off the AGP or whatever graphics accellerator helps a lot. If you use your computer to do audio and not a lot of video gaming or 3D graphics or texture mapping, then this will be an improvement for you. This is why I'm always talking about turning shit off. If you don't use it, DONT USE IT!!!! Kinda like the shared printer on a mac. When the hell are ya gonna share your printer over a network???? Fuck that! Turn it off, throw it away, GET RID OF THE RAM LEECHES!!!
I just hope i've said something useful.
I wish you the best of luck.

Re: need help
Either convert the WAVs to MP3. Or get a program that burns the MP3s as is. You'll find a few free downloads in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_BURNERS/">CD Burning</a> section of this site.

about cakewalk pro audio 9
I have two problems on using my cakewalk for my home recording!
question one is how can I turn my click sound to my pC speaker instead of it sounds only out from inside my pc tower?? How I can change that by using a headphone or my pair of PC speaker instead? I have already enable the click sound in the record option (Use PC Speaker) But still the click sound is out inside the tower somewhere?
Second question is I use track one for my guitar record and after that I arm off track one and arm on track two for drums recording! I am on sound on sound recording but how come everytime when I finish the recording track two will overwrite track one as well? I mean it suppose track one will have only guitar and track two will have drums only but no matter what> track two will have guitar and drums both as well? When I do this audio recording i turn off my pc speaker and use my headphones instead but still it record everything from track one as well?
I hope you can kindly help me and answer my questions...your solution will be very very helpful for me! thank you very very much and have a very good day!

I have the Lyrics to One Week by BNL
:One Week
Words & Music by Ed Robertson
It's been one week since you looked at me
cocked your head to the side and said I'm angry.
Five days since you laughed at me
saying get that together come back and see me.
Three days since the living room
I realized it's all my fault, but couldn't tell you
Yesterday you'd forgiven me
but it'll still be two days till I say I'm sorry
Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes
Big like Leann Rimes
Because I'm all about value
Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits
You try to match wits
You try to hold me but I bust through
Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinkin achin shake
I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavours
Gotta see the show, cause then you'll know
The vertigo is gonna grow
Cause it's so dangerous, you'll have to sign a waiver
How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean?
Well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Threw your arms in the air and said you're crazy
Five days since you tackled me
I've still got the rug burns on both my knees
It's been three days since the afternoon
You realized it's not my fault not a moment too soon
Yesterday you'd forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait till you say you're sorry
Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin X-Files with no lights on, we're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm getting Frantic
Like Sting I'm Tantric
Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy
Like Kurasawa I make mad films
Okay I don't make films
But if I did they'd have a samurai
Gonna get a set of better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs just so my
irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes
that make me think the wrong thing
How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean? You soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt
It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped your arms to your sides and said I'm sorry
Five days since I laughed at you
and said You just did just what I thought you were gonna do
Three days since the living room
We realized we're both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday you just smiled at me
Cause it'll still be two days till we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days till we say we're sorry
It'll still be two days till we say we're sorry

digital string to sound?
Does anyine know of a way to convert a long digital string to sound on computer (preferably Mac) speakers? I have digital seismic data (the equivalent of the analog wiggles on a paper seismogram). It has a pretty rich range of frequency content. I'd like to use those data (appropriately scaled) as input to speaker sounds. Is there a way to drive speake output starting with just a string of such numbers?
Re: digital string to sound?
Off of the top of my head, as freeware... SetItsType, SoundApp and SoundHack are a good starting place. If you change a file to type FSSD, creator SCPL, SoundApp will play it--regardless of the original file type. You will need SetItsType to do this quickly. It's freeware and about 100K big.
The file type FSSD corresponds to SoundEdit 1.0 format, which is merely the data fork of a file (not the resource fork--icons, fonts, etc) This format treats data as unsigned 8-bit sound sample data.
SoundHack provides a more controlled manner of reading in raw files and playing them because it has a neat header changing function.
SoundApp is freeware that can play and convert just about anything. It works better if you have SetItsType because you can force it to try harder. Be sure to read SoundApp's built-in help file (About SoundApp...) because it holds extensive information about file formats in an easy to read glossary.
You will need to learn an easy little bit about binary numbers and sample formats if you need serious and accurate results. It can be a little confusing if you aren't already familiar with unsigned and signed, integers, mantissas, floats, doubles, twos complement, and ones complement.
Another good source of information is the the built-in help of the PC program DDClip. As a 96kHz 24-32bit program, it has extra information about different 24 and 32 bit formats. It can also write AIFF files. CoolEdit is another PC program that deals with 24 and 32bit varieties of sample formats and has some interesting help files built-in. There are free/demo versions of both of these, and their creators are friendly, knowledgeable people.
Another point of interest would be C-Sound. C-Sound is a collegiate programming package designed to be an audio programming language. For sure, you could do it in C-Sound if you know C+(+) programming.
Good luck

If you are using a PC, try searching your hard drive for the DirectX Diagnoser (or something like that ... maybe it's the DirectX Diagnositic ... i forget the name. Anyway the actual program might be called Dx.exe or something like that.
If you can search for application programs (.EXE) files containing the word (DirectX) then you can run ... oh wait!!! I just remembered a file called:
DSSETUP.EXE
I think it's the DirectSound Setup application.
Anyhow... there is a program for DirectX/DirectSound that comes with Cubase that is used to test the DirectX/DirectSound drivers and configurations. This is what you want to find and launch. If I was on my old pc, I could tell you for sure, but I sold my pc half a year ago.
I hope this provides at least a clue or two.
OK People, here is a nice synthesizer you forgot.
Draw pictures and make sounds. Make sounds and draw pictures. You need some crazy WAVE files that don't conform to the norm? Yes you do!! This is an oldie but a goodie. Also look around the web for BMP2WAV. it does almost the same thing, but is smaller and older and only does mono black & white. Still, Bitmap to Wave is funkier in some ways. If you're looking to hide your porn files in a funky place, why not put them into your crazy dance tracks. :)

Props to Alan Wilder, but really... Depeche Mode ought to be able to write their own songs!!!
p.s. - Where is Sir Wilder these days, anyhow?
Re: Check Out these Exploitative Industry Opportunities:
I dunno about you. I think you're over-reacting. There are a lot of people who make a living from being song writers as opposed to performing. Just think of the benefits of coming up with ONE track for a major artist. Even allowing for being screwed over, you'd still do OK for yourself. Why dya think Britney Spears was so insistent on writing a song on her last album?

Corporate Fascism destroyed the rags to riches American Musician
You COULD be correct, but your argument hinges upon one thing: the contract. If indeed a selected songwriter would get full synchronization/publishing/other use/notation/etc royalties, and production points (if actual audio music is involved--not just lyrics or notes),... then maybe the deal is ok. Otherwise, it's just another route to screwedville.
Just remember: If Britney Spears has to struggle just to get production points or whatever, than you can be sure that a no-name nobody with killer tracks will be the next victim in this stupid game. Don't believe the hype.
Even actual do-it-all-but-sing-it song-producing producers get screwed. If they aren't yet famous, usually a major label will push very hard to give credit to a brand-name producer so that the marketing angle is tighter and easier. They don't want to risk trouble trying to promote a totally new producer, even if (s)he really did create [just about] everything on a song or album.
Unless you have a strong negotiative legal team with expertise in entertainment law, you will be screwed by the big-name record label. Bear in mind, that this may not apply so harshly to smaller labels. Just keep in mind that most small labels are actually big labels in disguise. There really are only about 4 major record labels in the U.S. If you look through your record collection, you will have a very tough time finding an actual independent label. For example:
TVT=Interscope=Mute=Ensign=A&M=Columbia=Sire
Warner Bros=Universal=Maverick=Seagrams=Polygram=
I may have made a minor error or two, but you can look this up yourself. In fact, I highly reccommend it. Anyway. These kinds of big labels have reputations that supercede them. They are all about profit, marketing, & lawyers. And in that order. Study and learn.
OK. I now feel the need to back up what i say with some stronger references. As you wish:

Re: Corporate Fascism destroyed the rags to riches American Musi
You raise a number of points I agree with. But don't fall into the trap of thinking everyone is out to get you. There are enough rich and successful musicians/songwriters out there to suggest that people can make it happen.

Is there a program that will.......
allow one to remove a particular piece from music (Guitar, Lead Guitar etc..) so one can play along?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.... I'm not up to date with current technology. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
