I just use an old Roland GP-8 (which is a guitar effects processar) as preamp. don't use midi at all, just record keyboards as audio

did heaps of recordings and finally found the time to put them online: realplayer streams and mp3s

I think you have done quite a few things right although I have never been much of a samplefest lover. I love samplers although I try and steer clear of sample CD's and the like as it's too tempting to use the same drum loop as everyone else has been using for months/years.

Playing it live with the keyboard will give it a touch of human life so I am glad that there is little sequencing going on...

Not bad though but I have sort of heard it all before....

When you download a plugin from the software section, how do you install it? For example, I downloaded some audio recording plugins. I cannot get them to work - my recording software sees one of them, but when I try to use it, I get an error message saying it is not properly installed. I dropped the .dll file in the system folder, assuming the program that used it would find it - no luck. What am I doing wrong?

VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology (I think) and was just a name for Steinberg to use when they brought out the first version of Cubase VST.

VST plugins are therefore plugins that are understood by Cubase VST. The plugins were so popular that they have become a standard architecture for people to write and for companies to write into their software packages. (Look out for VST compatible). There are VST instruments too..

Few companies have tried to intrude on this standardization other than Microsoft (who else). It didn't work though.. well...

You need to first locate some mac-only sites. That means looking for mac-only sites. This is so simple because it's so common. Most of these mac-only sites feature mac software and help, but you are sure to find links to music sites if you try hard enough. <IMG SRC="http://www.pixeltechnologies.com/IMAGES/thinktank.jpg">

I would start with a search for mac-only music software sites, and then follow those links for clues to other sites that cater to mac users.
