Re: recording 4 tracks simultaneously ???
Hello.
I would not do so.
I prefer using a better card, sound card, with 4 inputs like TerraTech, Echo corp, Midi Man, etc'
The results will sound better and the PC will function more stable.

Re: recording 4 tracks simultaneously ???
I believe that Sonic Foundry Vegas & Cakewalk (probably others) both can work with multiple soundcards. However, It probably won't work to use them at the same time without having the cards sync together. Most low end sound cards have no way to syncronize to other cards. So it's kinda like recording 4 tracks into 2 tape decks. Most cards like the Sound Blaster Live, for instance, do have two physical stereo inputs (mic & line), but route these to a single stereo input as far as any software is concerned. This won't work for you. What you really need to do is get a sound card with multiple inputs (Echo makes several - Layla, etc). These cards aren't cheap. I think cards with actual seperate inputs on the card probably start around $800 or so.
Good Luck
Re: recording 4 tracks simultaneously ???
play your song while recording one instrument/track at the time. Then proceed with the other instruments. It takes a bit more time, but why a new soundcard? Let's assume in the future your new songs have 2 xtra 'vocal' and a 5th instrument. Then the new soundcard isn't useable anymore!!
I think the reason for your problem is as followed:
You have already tried recording one track at the time, but had troubles with combining the 4 tracks together (maybe you had delay problems), it didn't sound like you wanted it, or didn't really know how to process the 4 files together. Spent some time on your recordingtechnigues & software, try, experiment, in the end you will succeed. It easier as you may think
Re: recording 4 tracks simultaneously ???
The Videologic Sonic Fury/Turtle Beach Santa Cruz has four inputs,
so can, theoretically, take four inputs at once. However, I've not
come across software that will record four tracks simultaneously
(but come to think of it, I haven't tried).
In these situations, I've always recorded each instrument separately,
so that I can balance them properly.

Re: recording 4 tracks simultaneously ???
Couldn't you just go thru a mixer and then into the back of your soundcard?

music edit software
I am looking for a professional music edit software that would help me compose choir music in all four voices: soprano, alto, tenor and bass and also instrumental music.
Since I am a choir member we often get pieces of music so I would want to scan my pieces of music that I get and be able to listen to it.
Thank you!
NEED CAKEWALK EXPRESS HELP
HELP! I have Cakewalk Express and I'm trying to record MIDI I/O from a YAMAHA PSR-520. I also have a C-media sound card. All the midi options and cable settings are correct but I can't record from my keyboard. I can play Cakewalk files OK. Please advise. Thanks, John
AUDIOSPORT QUATTRO / CUBASIS AV
I'm trying to run Cubasis AV on an I Book through the new Audiosport Quattro USB interface.
Whilst the new box works wonders with all internal sound + CDs + D Sound PRO, I have no luck with Cubasis - just a distorted mess.
Samples seem to have been recorded OK + can be played back through the internal speakers, providing the USB is disconnected.
Is this something to do with ASIO? From what I can tell, Cubasis AV does not support them.\
Thank you

Question of a beginer
I have just bought a CD-MP3 player, Roadstar, and I have been traying to play CDs recorded with MP3 files but it have been impossible to ear any thing.
Please could you be so kind to give me your help intorducing me in the method of recording the MP3 files in order to get a god result.
The program used for the recording is the Easy CD Creator and it does not allow to record MP3 files as music disc.
Many thanks in advance.
Mp3
You need to read the manual that comes with the hardware and it should tell you everything.
If you are trying to record MP3's as audio files then you maybe missing the point. CD burning software will often take an Mp3 and then convert it to uncompressed audio so that it can be played on a normal CD player, you don't want to do this. I was under the impression that the files would be burnt as data files and then the hardware would recognise the files and play them... Read the manual..

Re: Mp3
I had similar problems with my in-car Kenwood MP3 player. It's pretty pedantic about how
you record CDs, and also the brand of CD used.
For the Kenwood, you need all the MP3s encoded at 128kps, and the disc needs to be
written to ISO9660 (i.e. 8 charater file names). It also dislikes TDK CD-Rs, but
will quite happily play Maxell. It also has problems with 700MB discs.
Having said that, I now have five discs in the car with a total of 46 albums on them

recording and making music
Im interested in recording and making my own music. I want to write my own music and find the beats and sounds to make my own songs. I would love to eventually hand my music into a record company as a demo. I would like your advice on what software packages I should purchase as I am just starting out and Im quite new to all this. I know I may sound like a wannabe but I would appreciate your advice. Thankyou.
Re: recording and making music
PPS That $700 for the Isis soundcard etc converts to US$350
Re: recording and making music
Steve is right of course!!!!! I started off with an Isis soundcard/breakout box/bundled software package costing around $700 total about 10 months ago. You have to be careful with all specialist soundcards though that the motherboard chip set in your pc is compatible. To be safe use an intel chip set although newer motherboards with non intel chipsets are becoming more friendly. Software to try out is cubase, emagic, cakewalk, sonic foundry etc. If you go to their websites you can get demo versions or free special edition versions to download and start making music. I started out using emagic logic audio special edition but then switched to sonic foundry acid pro (there are different levels and costs of acid programs) which I found much quicker and easier to use. If you haven't already done so, go to www.sonicfoundry.com and download a free version of acid. You should be able to do a lot with it whatever computer/soundcard you have (provided computer is a pc not a mac!) If you are not happy with the acid format scan all the websites you can and download free stuff to try! I hope there is something in all this that may be helpful. Good luck. I wish you lots of fun and fulfillment!
PS There are also sound loops you can download if you look around or you can get them free with computer music magazines. Some of them are really crappy but you'll know when you find some good ones. If your present soundcard allows you to do so you can record your own loops.
That depends on many things...
What computer do you use for starters?
Can you play an instrument and what is your previous musical background?
What is your technical background, are you happy with pro-level hardware and software?
You say "find the beats and sounds". Do you mean downloading all the sounds that you want to make a song out of and then cut and paste them together?
Finally, there are a lot of ways of making music from cutting and pasting (childs play) to recording sounds and instruments from mic'd and other sources. If you want to make music, you have to establish how deeply you are prepared to delve into a professional world of competition.
You can make the best tunes ever with a 4 track porta studio and the worst with some of the most expensive audio and midi equipment out there. Expand on yourself and then we can advise properly. Telling you to spend hundreds of pounds/dollars etc on something you may never use would be unfair.

sysx
I use Cakewalk Home Studio to create midi files to use on the Roland MT80s midi player ( which I believe carries the sound canvas sounds)
I'm trying to work out how to use sysx and whether there is actually any advantage in it for me.
From what I've read, I should be able to create different types of reverb (room, hall etc) but I'm not sure how.
Any suggestions?
Sysex..
Sysex is short for system exclusive (messages) and is great for sending patch information and storing setups and settings on different midi devices. You could make a performance on a synth that represents a song that you have made with a sequencer on you computer and then dump that information to the computer so that when you next play that song, the sysex information will be sent to the synth(s) and they will assume the position.
As far as reverb is concerned, sysex is a packet of information and wont allow you to create 'new' sounds that can't already be created from within that device, if you see what I mean. A computer sequencer can be used to adjust the reverb (or fx settings generally) on remote midi devices.
I use it rarely as I store midi device information locally for reliablility. Read up on it though as it's useful to some people.

Image File or individual wav files - Which is better 4 burning?
Is there any difference between burning from an image file VS burnig from individual wav files? When copying CD's, I don't trust on the fly, so I always read to HDD first, then burn. Which of the above is better, if either?

: Is there any difference between burning from an image file VS burnig from individual wav files?
RE>
oh, mate. I mean if anybody even knew the REAL answer to that question! an image file is preferred, but make sure you got enough memory on hard drive and bearable amount of RAM. I frequently encounter with problems with my CD-RW and have come to the conclusion that the most reliable way in my setup is to burn directly from MP3s! however, I find that burning from individual wav-files definitely is the least reliable way to go. also see that the files aren/t corrupt in any way, because that will always result in fatal errors. there are surprisingly many corrupt files around and that is not usually even evident when just playing back those files.

More samples ??
FruityLoops comes with a million or more samples:)
Additional you can download the KillerTweaksII
sample CD from the FruityLoops site.
Only available for registered Users as you know:)
Re: i need more samples for use in fruity loops
Why don't you just buy one of the CDs that FruityLoops produces? Pretty good value for money considering all the time you'll take finding and downloading stuff.

CD Track editing (PQ edit/subcode)
CD Architect was great for "chopping" looong music recordings into tracks before (Disc-At-Once)recording. NOW it does NOT support most drives and not working with Win 2000 (or XP)
Does ANYONE know of a Windows based program that "sees" most writers (Yamaha) and has the capability to create tracks (Disc-At-Once)

Here is a top tip...
Go onto somewhere like www.iuma.com and listen to some of the music that you like. Email the people concerned and sell yourself as an internet collaborator.
I have done this for over a year now and although I have troubled with some of the performers, some of them are very willing and great supporters of what you are aspiring to do.
This is the truth. My friend is currently making a tune with one of the original members of The Doors. He was approached after meeting up over the internet with a brass player from LA. He did this purely by writing and collaborating with people. Chances like these come rarely in the real world but the internets anonymity combined with the ease of communication has opened up many paths for people like you and me... Don't miss the boat..!

Roland PMA-5 Need Manual (orig, copy, file, etc.)!!
Help! I need a Roland PMA-5 manual. Just bought a used one and it was working fine for a day or two and now when I use the stylus to touch one part of the screen another function comes up - even sounds when I touch play, reverse, etc. Does this have to do with screen calibration, and how does that work? That's why I need a manual - can't find one for sale only videos. Thanks!
