Re: cda format
CDA format is the format of an audio CD and basically stands for Compact Disc Audio. If you burn any audio CD this is the format you will get. Burning data CDs is the only way to burn a file with its original extension/format intact.
Ever heard of the CDDB: www.cddb.com

lp to cd recording - the basics
I am trying to record a lp to cd on computer. I am totally lost. I have the phono hooked up to a JVC receiver, so do I need an additional amp? Also need to confirm that i have it hooked up to pc correctly. I have a HP pavilion 6545 and we have the lines hooked into the "out" connector (next to microphone). Sorry to sound so stupid.
I have read the posts regarding software needed, but want to make sure i have everything else correct.
Thanks for your help
This question..
...has been answered by me and others recently to Sarah and you may want to read the reply. It's not too far down the page from here.
Basically though, you say you have the record player hooked up to a JVC receiver.... I assume this is an Amplifier with a receiver (tuner) as well. If this is the case then you will need to locate a 'Tape' record output. Domestic amps with built in pre-amps almost always have a couple of tape inputs which also have a tape output by them, often labelled 'record'. When you locate this, you should plug a phono lead (standard domestic hi-fi connection lead, one red one white connector) that has a connector that is the same as your computers audio input. This maybe a stereo minijack, as in walkman style headphones, or if your lucky, it will have phono/RCA connectors like the amp. Plug 'er in and your into software territory...
All you have done is line level the phono output. Almost all audio devices have compatibility with line level apart from a few things, record players being one of them. All you really need to do is put the record player into a device that will convert it into a 'Line level'. That's all you have done by connecting it to the Amp.
