Scorewriter
Can anyone tell me if I will lose any of the music that I have written into Scorewriter if I re-install the programme. I may have lost some dll's or it may be because I am now using Windows ME, but the programme shuts down, in the middle of what I'm doing, and although I'm learning to save my work more often it is rather frustrating. Sometimes just a click of the mouse anywhere on the page will lose it for me.

Copy all your music to a new folder, uninstall Scorewriter & replace the files. Read the manual troubleshooting section about conflicts with Windose Me. If your Songwriter is legal search its site for an upgrade or a ME patch.

THERE IS MANY WAYS TO DO THIS. DOWNLOAD THE SONIQUE MP3 PLAYER. THE LATEST VERSION WILL ALLOW YOU... IF YOU CANT DO IT LET ME KNOW.

This works with all current Real audio formats, unlike every other method I've tried. The web page says that you have to have RP8 and not the latest RealOne, but I have not found this to be correct.

If you have a look through the music software section of this site, you'll find numerous programs that'll do it.

The old way:
Run a midi program (like winamp or Cakewalk pro 9), & load your midi song.
Open Wavelab (or windose recorder), press the Rec button & goto its mixer & set midi to rec.
Start recording, go to the midi program & push play...
After your done, run your wav to mp3 converter (Winamp, Musicmatch, or better Nero media player's encoder) & there you have it...
passport music time
I have a bad #2 disk for my music time program that I purchased years ago. How can I go about getting another program that is comparable to music time. I have tried cakewalk and band in a box and didn't like either one of them. Music time was the best for writing music. Is music time still available in cd? Thanks for any help.

Check http://www.gvox.com It appears that they are the current publishers of Music Time, Encore, and other music software. It's now called MusicTime Deluxe. There is also some other support information there that may be helpful.

If you mean you want to broadcast a song to other computers, you must all have fast connections, a proper site from you that has the music, and an mp3 player from every computer that wants to hear..(you can always setup a local network)
If you mean digital sound from a CD, get Nero media player, goto preferences & tick digital playback...

I have recently tried to install MusicTime by Passport onto my new system. I am running Windows 2000 pro. I have a secured intra-lan network system in my home and everything else is working fine. Imagine my suprise when the pop up error generated was "WARNING! Installation is not complete. Press 'CONTINUE' to finish the installation or 'EXIT' to abort. If you 'EXIT' at this point, MusicTime will NOT be installed."
So I proceeded with 'CONTINUE'. Take a wild guess at what pop up notice appeared: " This appears to be an ILLEGAL copy of MusicTime. INSTALLATION ABORTED!" I can vouch for the fact tha this is the CD I purchased 4 years ago. Is this a normal circumstance with this product and why all of a sudden is the copy I puchased from the company now an ILLEGAL COPY? It now does not work on my Windows 98 or NT4.0 systems as well.
HELP!!!!

Open Nero, press new file, press cancel wizzard, goto page called Burn, tick Finalize and Disc At Once.

score player / viewer
I have discovered the Opus Viewer software that allows one to purchase and download scores from a web site, play them and print them. The idea is great but the viewer is rather limited. You cannot change the tempo, pause or play only a portion of a piece. You have to listen to the entire piece.
Is there any other software / score publishing service similar to this one but with those features?

Bandpass filtering and creative editting
Look up bandpass filter.
Use and audio editor and chop out all sections that are just music. Use reverb to give natural endings to the remaining pieces.

Harmonisers 'don't' correct tone. I think you mean pitch correction?? Harmonisers will create a new note from whatever note you give it in semitones (and more accurately if you want) up and down from the route not. Usually up24 semitones or down 24 semitones.
It sounds like you want a pitch correction application like Antares autotune which is a VST compatible plugin. It's not free though but well worth the money if you have a lot of cleaning up to do on a vocal.

I am looking for any downloadable effects or plugins for Cakewalk - any kind, Direct-X, whatever.. I have had a hard time finding a good EQ, distortion, and reverbs primarily...thanks!!

i want to transfer my MP3s to a new computer that has a CD burner but they are of course to large to put on a disk or anything to transfer.
Is there anyway that i can compress an MP3
to 1.44 MB or smaller?!?!!?!

YES YOU CAN, BUT YOU TRY CONVERT TO MONO FILE AND THE QUALITY MUST BE 56 KBPS OR 48 KBPS. THE RESULT IS A POOR SOUND QUALITY.

If you have a fast connection, then you could email them to yourself or get a free online drive of 50-100megs. Upload them and then download them on your new computer.
I prefer Woodys answer though..!

You might try a program like Winzip and zip it to your A drive on a 1.44 floppy. It will then ask you to put in another disk until the file is copied. The mp3 will not be compressed any but it will be split onto floppies. You then unzip them on your new computer. or
You might try a program that will allow you to tie your parallel ports together with a cable and transfer your data that way. (Special cable needed). An older program to do this was Laplink.

There's an interesting program out there called "Note Worthy". It converts MIDI files to printable sheet music(Its also a desent composer program). So all you have to do if find the MIDI file you want and so long as you have a printer you can have all the sheet music you could ever need.

Go to options (midi or notation) & setup all the functions to fit your song. Some settings change to default when you restart the program...
It would be nice next time to write the type of Cakewalk you use.(Pro Audio 9, Sonar etc)...

It isn't easy sometimes...
But we have to accept that somethings we can't afford. It's an age old problem that leads to theft, so.... take a tip from me... If you are going to thieve something, keep it to yourself as posting it on a Shareware forum with your email address is going to get someone into trouble.

How do I punch in with cubase vst 32?

Sorry about the previous reply. I had to run...
1. Select a Track and set it up as necessary (arm it).
2. If you are recording MIDI, decide if the new recording should replace the music in the existing track (Replace Mode) or add (Overdub Mode). See transport bar on the left.
3. Set the Left Locator at where you'll start recording.
4. Move the Song Position to some point before the Left Locator.
5. Click Punch Button (Transport bar on the left next to Overdub)
6. Hit play. The recording starts automatically when it reaches the Left Locator & stops at the Right Locator. Hit stop to finish.
This is the standard procedure, check every step of it in case of trouble...

If you mean you can't write any audio/midi you must first record enable the audio/midi track that you'll be writing & press rec & then play (both numeric keyboard sortcut '*' eith 'Enter').
Always set the exact tempo BEFORE you start writing.
If you mean you can't use your punch in/out pedal to work with your computer, check drivers, ports & cables...
using an old keyboard
i got this old CASIO keyboard, i'd like to plu it in my computer, but i don't wanto to use the sounds from it. can i use it to play diferent sounds, like really old organs, for example. where do i find these sound to install?

Soundfont banks quality depends on the power of your Soundcard, you can use wave files instead of midi, download virtual synths, but the best solution is to buy a Rack synth with no keyboard(like Emu, Korg etc), make it your master midi & use your Casio as a slave. You can use the through input to have direct access (no latency).
This solution demands a pro Soundcard...

Does anyone know of a program to convert Roland S-330
sampler disk format to .wav format (and the reverse)?
I already have the sdisk utility but have had no success

USING A VCR TO RECORD STRICTLY AUDIO?
I hope that some audio guru can answer this for me. I've heard and read that you can use a HiFi VCR to record audio (kind of like a poor man's DAT recorder). Is that true and if it is, please tell me how to do. Thanks in advance.
