Fruityloops - Volume fading over more than one bar

With regard to Fruityloops:

How can I fade in a single channel over more than one bar? When I edit the events linked to the volume bar, it only applies to one bar. When the channel is triggered again it starts from the beginning of the volume event. Can this be overcome? I would appreciate any input.
Thanks, Scarbies.

You can't convert rmx to any other file format - if you have the cd you'll have to rip it again....
if you're using realjukebox to rip disks, check real.com and you'll will find out how to rip cd's directly to a mp3 format....

iv found the way to convert rmx to wav

you guyz can convert yr rmx files to wav format by playing the song through your realplayer and recording it at the same time its playing with your windows sound recorder, and i dont mean through a speaker into yr mic either... if you need further help then e-mail me jacobgerome@yahoo.com

Re: iv found the way to convert rmx to wav

That does work, but you have to mess around with the sound recorder. if you don't do it right, it will sound all scratchy and it will be a bad recording. Do you know how to reduce the static?

Re: iv found the way to convert rmx to wav

But what if you'v lost your licence file and cant paly the files, that just puts your solution through the window.

MID TO WAV

How to convert *.mid files to *.wav files ?

Kindly advice and namely software required if any.

Thank You.

Re: MID TO WAV

: How to convert *.mid files to *.wav files ?

: Thank You.

It depends on what you are using to play the midi files. I assume just a windows midi file player. If you have a duplex soundcard (ie one that can play and record at the same time) then you can record the midi player with a wav editor (like cool edit or wavlab) or even windows sound recorder, but that is limited to 60 second. You'll need to find your windows volume control (usually in programs, accessories, entertainment from the desktop). With that select which inputs are being recorded. You want to turn of the line in, mic etc off and switch on the wave/soundcard synth input). It depend on your soundcard what options it will give you.

Re: MID TO WAV

What you hear at the moment are is the set of general midi (or XG) sounds in your soundcard. Some cards (like the soundblaster series) support soundfonts, which are basically sets of sounds ready to be loaded onto your soundcards memory (if it has any, mine doesn't so I can't use em). On this site (sharewaremusicmachine) there are several soudfonts to download, some of which are taken from hardware synth dream machines like the access virus. The have the file suffix.sf2. If your card supports them, then go to control pannen and open the control for your card. You should hopefully be able to specify a soundset to use by browsing for your downloaded .sf2 files.

Vocals

Does anyone know how to lower the music on a mp3 to that you can just hear the vocals?

can't be done

Re: can't be done

: : Does anyone know how to lower the music on a mp3 to that you can just hear the vocals?

It can be done to a degree but never perfectly and the vocals themselves would be degraded by the process. You would need to import the mp3 to an audio editor (I use Cool Edit Pro). On this site I think there are a couple of direct x plugins (which you can use with cool edit) which will do this (to a degree) for you. Alternately you could try using the graphic or parametric equalizer to isololate the vocals and cut the rest of the tune. Its a bit hit and miss and does depend on the nature of the backing track

Jayplane, I too am a happy VST 5 user and have been trying to work this out. What you really want is to use the pattern of your sampled drum loop to play different drum sounds. I don't know if you have it or have used it, but Recycle will do this. You load in the drum loop sample (mon only) and increase the sensitivity so Recycle finds the drums hits, similar to the m-point in vst5. You tell it how long your loop is in bars and beats and then you can export the 'midi groove file' as they call it. Import this to vst and have a look in the piano roll or drum editor. It puts the midi notes in the right place, timimg wise, but unfortunately puts each hit on a different note. Its then a laborisous task to work out which midi notes correspond to which drum sound you want. I've had some success with basically nicking the groove patterns out of tunes and using my own sounds. The moree complicated the patterns though, the harder it is to do. Best bet is to try and get Recycle to mark just the hits you want (eg just the snares) and delete all the other m-points. That way, all you have to do in vst is move all the notes up onto one key (without moving them sideways though, which is tricky).

Re: swithing audio drum tracks to midi drum tracks

thank you for you're reply i'm going to try this.

Any trance artists out here?

Peace to all the trance artists. Hey I need some advice on software, equipment ect that any of you might use. Just starting out in the sounds and am having fun but am interested in what other people are using. Take the time to say hey and thanks :)

Suprising as it may seem, good trance is really, really hard to make! I've been trying fo a while and am just getting to grips with it. I assume you are a computer based musician and don't want to lash out thousands on racks full of sythns and outboard gear. One thing I would recomend though is getting a decent midi keyboard. Things like the Roland JP8000 and Novations Supernova are dream machines loaded with ready to go kicking sounds. Trouble is they cost a mint (800 squid upwards). I managed to get a Yamaha CS1x brand new for 340 quid. You can get em 2nd hand for a couple of hundred. Its obviously not a flash as some but it has got a lot of interesting and dance oriented sounds ie, nice arpegiators, sweeping pads plus its got knobs on it for filter cutoff and resonance (if you dont know these are you 'squelch' controls, essental for trance).
Software wise I would recommend Cubase VST. If you can get hold of it, the full version like VST5.0 is wicked but there are cheaper (and sometimes free) chopped down versions like Cubasis (I've enen seen it free on the cover of magazines like Future Music and Computer Music).
You computer can be an excellent synth and there are loads of software synths available that will 'plug in' to cubase and are controlled just like a hardware synth. There are several on this site which are cool. I recomend getting a software drum synth like this 'cause good rum sounds are hard to make.
You could also do with a nice audio editor like Cool Edit Pro of Wavlab. With these you can manipulate samples (ie .waav files) with a multitide of effects and processes. These wav files can be imported into cubase (or whatever sequencer you go for) and play along with your tune.
Of course, if you have a keyboard synth and your computer playing sounds then you will need a mixer. Again, there are some great second hand deals about. I got a great Tascam digital mixer from QXL.com.
And possible the most important thing in any project studio is you monitoring system. A nice set of studio monitor speakers make all the difference. You can't make good music unless you can hear it properly. I have Spirit's Absolute 2 monitos (British made!) that boot out 100 watts rms and have a crystal clear sound.
It will all seem really hard to begin with but stick with it. The more you do it, the easier it gets and the better your music becomes.
Happy tune making!

can I line-out from one PC and line-in/record on another PC?

Does anyone know if it is possible to playback an audio file on one PC and record it on another PC right next to it using the line-out and line-in slots on each sound card?

Re: can I line-out from one PC and line-in/record on another PC?

: Does anyone know if it is possible to playback an audio file on one PC and record it on another PC right next to it using the line-out and line-in slots on each sound card?

yes, quite easily. you just need a cable with the right connectors on it and a suitable recording software on the PC that records. Even windows "sound recorder" can do this. It wont be a 100% perfect copy though as it gets converted from digital to analogue and back to digital.

Metro for MAC confusion

I'm completely relatively new to MID, and I have an awful lot of questions about the program Metro by Cakewalk (for Mac). Does anyone know of a discussion group or Web site that might be able to help me out with pretty basic questions? The manual is like a foreign language to me.

Thanks.

Adaptec CD Creator Quit Working

I was fooling around with MusicMatch Jukebox settings and let it run "autoconfigure" for the recorder. Subsequently, my CD-RW drive will no longer burn CD-R's. Any body else out there had this problem? wolong@aol.com

Re: Adaptec CD Creator Quit Working

I have also found that the autoconfigure setting in MusicMatch screws with my burners settings. I personally use nero burning rom and had not had any problem haveing other applications open when burning a CD. After I was using musicmatch to encode mp3's I couldn't get nero to burn any CD's at all. After running the nero CD speed utility I found that it didn't have a problem checking for an audio CD speed, but data cd's came up with a an invalid parameter list error. MusicMatch must configure a Burner specifically for music or mp3 cds. I fixed the burning problem by re-installing nero as it should have a cd/r/rw drive configuration in the installation. I can burn Data cd's now without a problem but the CD speed util still comes up with an error. Hope this helps some.

Re: Adaptec CD Creator Quit Working

I also have Music Match but I didn't run autoconfigure. But I now have the same problem, I can't burn any CD's. Please let me know if you find anything.

Who can help me with Midi mute control for my mixing desk?

I am looking for software thath is able to give midi commands to my mixingdesk. The mute's on my desk can be controlled with note on/off. I want to use it as a simple way of live show control. example : in scene 1, microfones 1, 2, 10 and 11 are open,(not muted) and in scene 2, microfones 3,6 and 8 are open, the rest is muted. It would be helpfull when the names from the microfones are listed on a screen. It would be also very nice if scenes can be inserted between already programmed scenes, numbered example 17, 17a, 17b,18...
so that i can keep up with changes during the rehearsals.
I really hope that someone can find me such a software, and if not, all the peolpe who have experience with this sort of show control can mail me

You can doo this with any old midi sequencer. Its just a matter of drawing the notes on the piano roll editor where you want your changes to occur (ensuring that the notes are being transmitted on the right midi channels.) On my Tascam TMD1000 mixer it has 16 channels which correspond the the 16 midi channels. The easiest way is to set your sequencer recording on all midi channels and go through your song making the changes manually on the mixer. All your mutes/unmutes, panning volume changes etc will be recorded into the sequencer. Then just play back the sequencer and hey presto, its all done for you. If you find a mistake, its just a matter of finding the midi note in your sequencer and editing it. Hope that helps a bit, I know its not too specific. It does depend on what sort of automation your desk has and its midi protocol though.

Re: Who can help me with Midi mute control for my mixing desk?

thank you very much for the information, but there is another question that i'd like to ask.
I dont need changes "in" a song, just between different songs. The changes are also not depending on recorded time but at the that i say the change is got to happen - with a sort of next steo button. I want to use it in a live show with many wireless mikes. There would be also no 'dynamic' changes in songs. I need, lets say only just one second of playback, so that my mutes can be set correctly. Can i do this in a sort of way? ( excuse me for my bad english, i'm from belgium...)

This Discussion Board is a fucking joke

It is fucking riddled with pissy small-time thin-headed advertising bastards.

Hey, advertising bastards, why not crawl under some shitty stone somewhere and beat-off your infantile penises until your thin heads explode. We'll all applaud you for that.

Shit to your relentless, fucking idiotic, meaningless drivel. I wont buy shit from your fucking meaningless enterprises out of principle.

May you all go bankrupt and eat shit for supper.

some idiot who obviously doesn't realise that maintaining a high-traffic, highly popular web site isn't free thus requiring some form of income probably all coming from advertising.

btw: Where the hell are all these advertisements that piss you off so much???? I can't find very many! At least not enough to make me put down another person (or group of persons) hard-work which is there to help YOU!

Re: This Discussion Board is a fucking joke

You may not like advertising, but this discussion
forum wouldn't be here for you to complain about
it if didn't have advertisements.

In fact this entire web site wouldn't be here at all.

It costs tens of thousands of dollars every month
to operate this site - the world's biggest music

could all be paid for then please do let me know.

RAM

Is there a file format called .RAM? if there is what software playes these files and where can i find a ripper to convert to .RAM

Re: RAM

RAM = Real Audio Meta-file. Basically the RAM file is a plain text file with the location of the .RA file which you are attempting to play.

EG: song.ram

If you download the RAM file and open it in a text pad, you will see a link to a RA file.

There's more information on it at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9904_106/.

Megamixing

I am a talented DJ, but relatively new to PC music and would like to create a professional megamix. I have only a basic understanding of how some music software operates, and so am consequently stumbling along. I am looking for a step-by-step "best practice" tutorial, with tips and tricks on this topic, advice on what software to purchase to suit my requirements, time saving practices, etc. My hardware consists of: Yamaha A3000 sampler, Pioneer DJM600 mixer, 2 Technics SL1200 turntables, Evolution mk149 midi keyboard, PC, and the basics. Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated
