Re: Quality, simple Wav editing S/W? Reccomendations?
: Hello all,
: I require ROBUST software that will perform simple editing functions on a *.wav file. I simply want to take one long wave file ( a live concert) and
: be able to edit out sections (talking, applause), then split it into tracks. I have been using ToGo! which does exactly what I want but crashes every time I try to save the edited file as a project. ToGo! simply displays the waveform and you can see the breaks betwen songs and then zoom in on them and play a short section you have zoomed on to see if you do indeed want to edit it out. You can then insert 2 sec silences , then later hit the 'Tracks' button which will
: find the silences and insert tracks there. Is there any ROBUST software that will do all this (and maybe more) and NOT crash after I have spent half an hour editing? Thanks, Bernie.
the best audio ed out there is soundforge by sonic foundry
Re: Quality, simple Wav editing S/W? Reccomendations?
Check out our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_EDITORS/">AUDIO EDITORS section</a> for programs like PolderbitS Sound Recorder and Editor (Shareware), Audacity (Freeware), Fast EdDit (Demo) and GoldWave (Shareware).

Taking a Sound File made and breaking it apart
Is there a program to take like a wave file of a song and break it down into tracks..one track for drums..one for bass guitar..one for lead guitar..one for vocals? I have never heard of one but don't know until you ask
Re: Quality, simple Wav editing S/W? Reccomendations?
I like Cool Edit, It's shareware so you can try it out, and then purchase it if it works for you. I've been using it since it was Cool Edit 96, it's now up to Cool Edit 2000 v1.1. I think it was around 69.00 bucks for the license, and you can by other add ons. There is a Cool Edit Pro version that's about 300.00 bucks, I guess so they can compete with SoundForge in the way too expensive class, but I find the regular program works for me.
One very nice thing about it, is if it does crash, or lock up, or terminate abnormaly, you just reboot your computer, start the program again, and the program asks if you want to continue on the session that just crashed.
Why can't all the programs work like this.
By the way I sure the site has this program here.

Portastudio (analog) to PC (digital) setup
I have an 8 track cassette format recorder (tascam 688)that I really like working with. So far, I haven't found a good way to mix/master the tunes I've recorded.
I'd like to take the outputs of the recorder (analog) and input them to a pc based mix/mastering pc. I'm good w/ pc's but havent done the digital audio thing yet.
Any recommendation on a sound card that has 8 inputs? I could live with just 2 if I had to. Software recommendations to mix, master, and then write to both audio CD and MP3?
Thanks,
Kevin
Re: Portastudio (analog) to PC (digital) setup
My personal choice is the Digi001 with Pro Tools LE from <a href="http://www.digidesign.com/">www.digidesign.com</a> You can download a Free 8 track version from <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/ProTools/">Pro Tools Free</a>
Since your after an interface and software I would recomend a trip to a music store and seeing what they have.

plj music files to mp3
hello is it possible to for the new plj music format file to be converted to mp3
Re: plj music files to mp3
I don't think so. PLJ is copy-protected. Anyone other than the PlayJ people is not allowed to save it as MP3. It would be an illegal act. And that's why you wont see plj --> mp3 software.

track splitting on Spin Doctor
I amd using version 5 of Roxio's (formerly Adaptec's CD creator/ Spin Doctor to record albums to Hard drive then to CD. Anyone have any tips on making the track splits work right. I have changed the sensitivity levels up and down, and I still come up with songs split in the middle into different tracks and frequently 3 or 4 songs lumped together in a single track. Any ideas other than recording each song off the album separately?

Huh? have you tried the toaster interface? See the film The Little Toaster, scene down the waterfall!
Good apz
I am lloking for a good dj mixing program, (one that calculates the BPM) if not, a program that does that too. Also, I need a program that will burn an audio track to CD. The audio track is a one hour mix session, but I want to put track numbers in without interupting the mix (cant work out how to do it with nero) cheers.
Re: Good apz
okay, you're gonna need a couple diff programs....use cooledit pro for mixing, its the best, imho....splice up the wave into separate files, however you want it, save them individually....then use adaptec cd creator or something, that has a "disc-at-once" method option of burning...this will eliminate any pause between your tracks on your cd....use acid to chk bpm, but you're gonna have to chop it into 1 single loop exactly, for it to tell you....other good appz you should chk are cubase VST, which is the real professional sht, fruityloops 3, if you like makin beats....(you should insert your own samples with that...) i know this is very quick, and not much info, but i'm at wrk, sorry...good luck.
Re: Good apz
Cheers for your time ma man, I am just learning the basics, so cheers, I will have a nosy at those appz, - I think I have got a few in the house on an a cd (fruity etc. - I will check - thanks again
No sound from audio cd
I had to re-install Win 95 on my P233mmx, there is a test of audio on cd-rom which worked ok. I have since reloaded Cubase 3.5, Cool Edit Pro, Fruity Loops 2.54
and QuickTime 3.2. Now when I try to play audio cd, there is no sound. If I plug a headphone into the cd-rom jack there is sound. I have done all the usual checks in Volume Control, checked the cable from cd to AWE64G s/card etc. to no avail. Any ideas please ?.

Re: No sound from audio cd
I had the similar problem but I can't hear from my headphones. CDs just play on the main speaker. I'm at work and don't want to disturb other. I tried the headphone plug in front and it doesn't work. The one in back does work but my headphone cord is too short. I've checked my volume control panel and nothing there improves the situation.

Check out some of the sites in our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/SOFTWARE_SAMPLERS/guide.shtml">SOFTWARE SAMPLERS guide</a> for sites with samples and loops. FruityLoop DOES rock, yes.

NO BITCH
first time..
Hello,
I found this site searching for the word 'sampler'. That is because i don't know much about making your own music with help of the computer. My wish for quite a while is making my own music, and i find the creative part the most important. (i'm really fond of music like on Moby's album play) I want to do it with the computer because i cannot play many instruments and i'm not in a group.
How's the best way to get started in this? We do have a keyboard that can be connected to our pc but when i move out i guess i won't have much time to use the keyboard (which stays home:( )
I'm also interested in combining computer-made music with, for instance, my el. guitar. Or maybe with strange noises as sound effects.

Re: first time..
Don't forget that an audio editor like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/rd/MS_syntrillium/rd.pl/?http://www.syntrillium.com/en/index.html?x=3&go=6^^MS_syntrillium">Cool Edit</a> and a sample sequencer such as <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SonicFoundryAcid/">ACID</a> will allow you record your own vox/guitar and then lay them down into a mix of samples.

Re: first time..
Fuity Loops is a nice piece of software to get started on. It will do loop based sample music, plus will play virtual synthesisers (or VST's wich are synthesisers that you can load into your computer so you dont need a real synth outside the computer.) Fruity Loops is a good start for someone just starting out. Especially if you are interested in doing Techno. I have experimented with it for my band's industrial music and found it very adiquate. Since I have a lot of gear, I switched to Cakewalk Pro audio and soon am going to SONAR. Cakewalk is one of the best midi sequencers out there. Sonar is the new update to it that comes with a few VST's Cakewalk also does multitrack reccording. It's more designed for serious musicians, but it's a great piece of software if you ever graduate from FruityLoops.
