DAT recording and then into a PC- you can then use software such as Soundforge to do the cleaning.

I suppose you could also record analogue to PC and covert to digital and MP3 whatever's your poison. Tad messy mind.

Cakewalk problems recording audio - PLEASE HELP

I'm having grief with recording audio in cakewalk. Everything seems fine, but on playback it seems the audio track will suddenly speed up or slow down for a fraction of a second - can anyone tell me how to stop this?? Is there a quantise function for audio? Could this be some kinda auto-quantise?

There is a program called "ra2wav", and it's good, but a shareware program. Go to

to get a free RA to WAV program that works just fine :)

Problem with reason sequencer

I have just got reason and find that whenever play is pressed this starts off all devices it can even though the sequencer doesn't tell it to. It doesn't do this in the tutorial song so i can't work out why it does this. if the devices are manually turned off each time it works fine and follows the sequencer: not the end of the world but REALLY annoying. can anyone help, thanks

Hi,

I'm a beginner in this art. I need to edit a live 48Khz digital Wav recording, and am trying to use Sound Forge. Some of the things I am trying to do include:
(1) Convert certain frequency sections of mono into stereo
(2) Reduce clapping sounds at the end.
Can someone give me a few beginner pointers to get started, or maybe refer me to a good website that has
some info related to this. Thanks.

Try Wavclean. $15.00 and it works great on 16 bit or greater wav. files or Acoustica,an audio editor has a good noise reduction function also very inexpensive.

I have bought Emagic's "Logic Audio (Silver) v4.0" About a year ago. My authorisation disk is faulty and I cannot load the program back onto my computer. Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do?

What you need is a minidisc recorder with a digital
input, and a computer soundcard with a digital output.
It's best if the soundcard has an optical output, since
that's the most common digital (S/PDIF) connection on
minidisc recorders.

OK. then with the controlling software of the soundcard,
you want to select the digital output to be active, and
make sure it's configured to transmit at 44.1kHz 16 bits linear, and
in stereo. By linear, i just mean, no fancy compression turned on of
any sort. You should also set the soundcard to transmit consumer type
digital signals if it gives you a choice. Likewise, you should
set it to work with SCMS, since many minidisc recorders won't record a
digital signal that doesn't have some SCMS code present.

However, if you can get it to work without SCMS, you'll be
better off. SCMS is a system to prevent digital copies
from being made. In fact, you might not be able to
record into your minidisc if it sees any SCMS in its incoming
digital signal. That's how it works.

That's a pretty oversimplified way of explaining, but
it should help you get started. If you have your minidisc
recorder's manual, it will be a lot easier too.

Of course, if that doesn't work, you can always
just record the analog signal.

I dont bother with software for recording. I simply connect the speaker plug on the back of the puter with a mini jack to stereo audio cable direct to my recorder, set the recorder to AUX and then record "live" to the minidisk recorder by playing the mp3 thru the likes of Winamp or Mdia Player 7

Most of what I know comes from Computer Music Magazine ... www.computermusic.co.uk ... PC's are pretty comparable nowadays with Macs ... biggest problem with laptops is you probably need external soundcard connected by USB.
Personally I go for PC - I know how to use it and there is more software ... gl.
