I think fruityloops is awsome a bit difficult to catch, but since i have downloaded the demo, about 2 weeks ago i have figured some of it out, and i can already tell that it is well worth it. i wanted t try the demo before buying it, you can download the whole thing, the only thing is that you cant save any files you make. try looking at SonicFoundry.com and check out AcidPro there. its a loop based music creation program. just paint the loops like in a paint program, really easy and i am sure you will like it.

HELP! I am trying to use a Yamaha CD Burner on a ROLAND VS1680

I have a roland 1680 workstation and I'm trying to use a Yamaha CD burner thru the scsi port. The Manual says that the only burner you can use is the one roland sells for about 600$ !!! I read about someone getting a plextor burner to work, but that burner is also a good 400$. Any help/ suggestions would be appreciated!

I wish you luck. I have the same problem. Roland wanted us to buy their overpriced burner. Sounds like they made it software dependent. I'm learning to hate Roland. My burner is having problems and I do not appreciate what they have done as a matter of greed. Sorry I can't help you. We're both in Rolands clutches.

Unfortunately the Roland cd recorder seems to be the only one guaranteed to work with the VS workstations. I have a 880 and had to buy that expensive burner you mentioned in order to be compatible directly from the VS. However, if you have access to a computer that's scsi capable, you could connect the Yamaha to it and record, provided you could transfer your final stereo tracks from the 1680 to the computer. I know this isn't the most direct way but it can be a less expensive alternative, if you already have a computer and software.

Can any one tell me how to record my LPs onto CDs, without having to spend a ton of money? I would think I would have a recorder on board but I cant find it. I Have easy CD creator and can copy CDs and MP3s. But I cant figure out how to record MY LPs. I have foud My Windows sound recorder but It is limited to 60 seconds . Thanks for the chance to ask.

Depending on the size of your budget, you will find there are a number of very nice programs out there specialized for recording from analog sources such as LPs (vinyl) and cassette.

Here are some to check out on SMM;

Kurzweil K2000 sounds

I am trying to launch a realplayer file ".rm" from a director shockwave webpage. I keep recieving an error message page not found, but the file is uploaded on my server.

Also when I try to play the ".rm" file from the server "www.20m.com" I keep recieving an error message from realplayer 7.0 "a general error has occured." If anyone can help it would be great. I tried the realplayer site, but it's useless and the link to email tech support is broken! unbelievable.

Anyone that has heard, Public Domain - Operation Blade, New order - Confusion or The Warp Brothers, Phatt Bass will know they all have the same Had hitting bass in them now All of these song where originally made on Rebirth but as rebirth is virualy the same a fruity loops you must be able to make that sound with it! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW!

Why not try Winamp, and just put the track you want on repeat and that works with CDs and many others!

Is there a software that will allow you to do this. I have some soothing mp3s, that are 2 - 14 secs long. I want to loop each one so that they can play for about 3 - 5 mins.

Cubase audio hassles

i have a PIII 800 which i reckon should be able to simultaneously play MIDI and record audio (through a Sonorus STUDI/O card) into cubase (VST3.7), but for some reason this seems to be causing the MIDI timing to mess up completely. can anyone think of a reason?

i reckon it might be because the soundcard, USB controllers (one of which is my MIDI controller device) and SCSI card are all assigned to the same IRQ, but i cannot work out how to change them. windows control panel will not allow me to for some reason.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

You might have downloaded an incompatible version of QuickTime which has
automatically fucked up your sound files. This happened to my dad once, on Netscape.

He had to totally MANUALLY AND AUTOMATICALLY scan for ALL, I mean ALL quicktime files and remove them.
This was tricky, because many Quicktime files don't have obvious names. Also, Quicktime modifies other files
(such as the sound file). I would stop using Netscape Communicator, Use ICAB instead... it can really JAMM at filtering out junk too.
Re-install your entire system folder without anything you don't need. Make sure you delete everything you don't need.

I know this is a dragg, but unless you're good at seeing the fine print details
about each item in your system folder, you'll need to start from scratch.

This is why I started keeping a backup of my system folder on zip disk and on another hard drive.
The commercial programs do too much automatic troublemaking.

Netscape is also annoying because it installs AOL, which we all know is Totally like a virus.

this may sound insulting, but have you tried going into the Sound control panel? the best way is to acces it through apple extras>sound control pannel>sound. make sure you have the playthrough box checked. aside from that I'd have to know the specifics...but rest assured you're not alone. I've had my share of wonky mac sound problems.

When recording audio on your hard disc, no other program should be able to access the hard disc. You should turn off screen savers, disable virus scanners, reminder or scheduling programs, basically anything that could interrupt the hard disc.

I'm a 3D Animation Guy, and I wanna try my hand at making some music for animations and my demo reel.

I've tryed mixing software like e_jay and all them kinds, but it's not exactly what I am looking for.

I don't want to have to select from a list of ambient tunes they have and mix them all together.

I want to make the tunes from scratch and then mix them all.

I'm not a musician and the stuff I do may really suck, but I want to try and see. :P

I would prefer being able to do it all on the computer because it's cheaper and I don't have to go looking at music stores and learning a tonne of specs I need to know for a certain instrument, cause I get enough of that crap with a pc.

I also don't want something that limits me to "techno" "hip hop" or "rap". Cause that's just stupid.

Something with a huge catalog of instruments and the ability to make tunes and combine all the tunes into a song.

I know those majical keyboards can do most of what I want but their a bit spensive and I don't know which one to get and then I still have to somehow link it to my computer and use software to make the files.

I'd certainly prefer the cleanest and easiest solution as possible, without reusing other peoples stupid tunes which sound totaly gay! :P

Try Tuareg then. It's freeware so it'll only
cost you time. It lets you make everything from
scratch. It's got some sounds with it, but not
too many so you'll need to find some extra
samples on the net I guess. But I'd say that
for a free music tool it's totally cool stuff.

Please Help Install ST 24/96 audio card

I'm in desperate need of help installing a ST 24/96
audio card that came packaged with the Cubase Studio
Pack.
I was previously using SB Live and when I deleted
SB Live I no longer have a mixer in windows 98. Actually
I can get sound out of the card if I delete SB Live and
remove the card from the PC but I definitely cannot
input any sound.
Such as when I use Wavelab and try to record, I will
get a message like, "there's no mixer".
My question is do I need SB Live in order to properly
work with the ST 24/96 or is there another way?

Please Help. Thanks in advance.

Play using Realplayer8, don't use the newer Real One player as it stops to download large .RM files by small pieces.
Uncheck the options/preferences/performance/Use Optimized Video Display box.
Download Snagit or some other screen capture utility that can capture video.
If you later plan to render the resulting AVI file to Video CD or Super VCD (mpeg), capture using these parameters:
Audio; 44.1kHz stereo
Video; 352x240 or 352x288 (Use a fixed size in Snagit)
To get the sound you MUST connect the sound card output to line in. Adjust the recording volume with Windows volume control/options/properties/recording
You can get a splitter or two to set up your computer to both hear and record the sound for more accurate adjustment.
If using Snagit, I recommend Video output properties set to microsoft1 compression quality=75, Configure/Temporal quality=75, Key frame=20, 7 fps
" Video input fixed to above size, record audio checked.

It works for me.
