I am looking for some new samples for my yamaha ex5.I have a lot of really cool samples some many from shareware but I am looking for something practicle and useful I think I was burnt bad by-no holdz barred-Technomania and don'nt want it to happen again.I know some of the samples can get quite pricey, butdo I have to bite the bulet to get decent sounds?p.s. I love the sounds Jan Hammer had whe he played with Jeff Beck.
Re: samples
There are many great sample CDs out these days. Unfortunately if you want professional sound quality your going to have to pay for it. Check out www.findsounds.com

mp3 converter
I am looking for a software decoder that will take mp3 format and convert it to cd audio format. I want to be able to listen to my mp3 songs on my stereo player. Does anybody know of any software that will do this?

The best way to take music away from the computer is on hardware designed specifically for that purpose. Something like the sony net walkman will store 120 mins of mp3/wav etc files without you having to waste loads of CDrs by burning files onto them...and as it has a headphone socket it should be able to be connected to the hi-fi.
This means that you can keep music on the computer like an invisible library, just taking what you want away when you want it. Its v. simple to use...comes with all the necessary conversion software.
In fact you can even transfer your CDs onto the computer and access them this way if you're running out of space...surely a way forward for music storage and retrieval.

I want a system that pass my chalange..
I never use any musical sound in my productions because i mix human sound only to git an exelent song.thanks to - dj ray - for his exellnt advise but i am far away from that college. If there is any one who know about human sound songs. e-mail me and you will here something differnt!!. I which for an advice to know the following:
* best and practical studio mic ( not more than $1600).
*a good computer spisifications.
* the best sound mixer & editor that is very close to mixer properties.
* a digital mixer (not more than $4000)
* CD recorder.
i am in saudi arabia ( no profisional items avilable here )
thanks to any one try to help me build my stodio....
A Little Help
Well I cannot vouch for the best mic etc but your
best computing bet would be a nice 1 GHz AMD Athlon
and motherboard(CHEAP but FAST) with all the RAM you can afford.
You'll need a badass sound card. I suggest the
SoundBlaster Platinum Live (Dolby Digital)5.1, I've purchased
one that even has the luxury of decent MIDI ports on the front
of the machine. It comes with some music software
and is pretty much the top of the line sound card
available to the public from Creative Labs.
A large capacity, high rpm Western Digital hard drive would
also be a must. For a CD Recorder, I've had nothing but good
luck with the Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32. It records 12x 80 min cd-rs
in about 6 minutes. It also has 10x cdrw capability,
and a cd rip speed of 24x. It reads normal data cds at
32x. This particular cd burner has a hardware feature
known as BURNPROOF which pretty much keeps you from
ever having buffer underrun. This translates into perfect
cd-rs every time with no ruined cds.
I need profisional sound card...
i ues (SBLive Platinum) for audio editing and recording but, I want a card that can record without hissing - even single small hiss sound is not accepted- for a profisional studio.
multi-track recordings at least 20 TRACK at the same time ......you can immagen the duplcation of hissing at that instant.
also, I need a sound softwear that control aux efficts for every track...
also, I need a softweaer that can convert human sound into organ or any musical sound...
thanks..... mobil +96654981929
Re: I need profisional sound card...
so the sb live isn't good enough?i dunno mate, but i've already recorded several professional quality demos on it!of course if you want the ultimate,go for the yamaha SW1000!this has a synthesizer, professional effects, expansion capabilities(you can add more synths)and a glorious sound!it will do what you want it to do and then some!in fact that's gonna be my second soundcard very soon!as far as converting human voices into organ sounds, you'll need something known as a vocoder!search this site and you'll find plenty!from the looks of your question though,i don't think you should worry about it for now!in fact i don't even think you need a seperate soundcard('cuz for someone wanting a pro soundcard your questions are quite amateurish)!so before you spend some serious money, ask yourself whether you're ready for it,both financially and professionally!if the answer is yes, then the yamaha is the best card to go for!

help with windows media encoder 7.0 streaming
Hello. I have windows media encoder 7.0. I want to stream live broadcasts. I have a dinamic ip. address witch changes each time I connect to the internet. I was told to sign up with a service like selfhost.com but I can not get it to connect. How do I get around this with out geting a static Ip address? I heard it can be done with some ip address updater but I can't figure anything out. Can some one help me out? Thanks
Re: help with windows media encoder 7.0 streaming
You can live stream via Live365, I believe. No need for static IP.
Hope this helps.

You should check out www.dns2go.com and download the client for yourself.
Dynamic IP's are a thing of the past as users connect to <whatever you want>.dns2go.com
Pretty cool.
Control Phreak v2.01
Control Phreak v2.01
Florida Music Co.
Review:
I downloaded the demo for this software program and spent about an hour or so exploring the innards. Here are my comments ...
1. Description: The program is a MIDI controller that will apply many control parameters in real time to a midi stream. It allows you to tweak the Pan, chorus, reverb, volume, and patch for up to 5 channels. The MIDI IN channel # and MIDI out channel # is assignable for each of the 5 channels that are controlled. It is left up to you to get the MIDI cables connected properly. You must use a sound card with Windows drivers.
2. Features:
The settings for all 5 channels can be saved as a 'Preset' so that you can save your current tweak positions and channel assignments in a file. Up to 100 Presets can be saved.
You can transpose each channel up and down by octaves and these settings become part of the Preset. You can also select the chorus and reverb settings that are offered by your driver. You can also specify a key split for each channel which effectively kills the output above/below a certain note. This allows for routing a new effect to another output channel at that note. Interesting that only octave transposition is allowed, since other harmonies cannot be dialed in. Also I did not find a way to use other controllers such as pitch bend, breath, etc. Also, be careful in playing with these parameters in real time, since it shuts the stream off BAM! It is not smart enough to wait for a note off command, so you are liable to have a hang which is not cool. This happens often AND there is no way to send an all notes off, so guess what - you start over.
A mixer-like panel with sliders is provided to position your controllers. The latency seemed to vary in the real time application of the controller settings. It sometimes took just under a second. For real time this is quite a significant delay.
The demo version only allows 2 channels of output (and in my copy, I could not always get the 2nd channel to work - probably my inexperience).
The program might work for a real time recording or gig, but not for a music studio application. The output and controller stream cannot be saved. You must use an internal midi stream router (e.g. Hubi's) to capture the controller stream. There is no provision for recording anything.
There are also patch name sets for about 12 different synths that can be loaded. Naturally, my Roland and Casio were not in the list.
If you have Cakewalk or Cubase, all of the Phreak functionality is built in so there is no need to spend another $100.00 which is the cost of this software. In fact most sequencers today have provision for controller settings that can be saved and some (like Cakewalk and Cubase) have Real Time support as well.
3. Bottom Line:
1-10 Rating: Johnny Pumphandle gives this product a 1.

MAJOR problem with n-track and midi
whenever i create a song with two tracks featuring the exact same notes, they both end up being on the same channel when i 'export' them as midi files. if i save them as n-track files there is no problem. if the tracks all contain different information there's no problem.
i set each track to a different channel within n-track, so this is not the problem. i've tried creating the identical tracks by 'cloning' the track and by copying the notes into an empty track, but as soon as i create and listen to a midi file i find that the two or more tracks with the exact same notes are on the same channel.
i've tried creating the midi files by first creating n-track files and exporting them as midis. i've also tried inporting midis and changing the channels and then exporting them using a different file name.
none of this works and i'm DESPERATE for help on how to overcome this problem.
any help will be appreciated
Re: MAJOR problem with n-track and midi
Joanna ...
I have an old copy of n-track studio 1.1.
Under File>Preferences>Midi Settings there is a
checkbox - Remap midi channels. Try unchecking this box.
Actually n-tracks doesn't handle midi very well.
It is designed for audio. In fact 'midi' isn't even in
n-tracks Help Index.
I would recommend doing all the Midi outside of
n-tracks and using n-tracks for the mix.

HELP ANYONE!!!
Are there any programs that you can download that will let you burn cd's with one CD rom?? PLEASE HELP ME! thanks
Nikki
Re: HELP ANYONE!!!
Nikki ..
You need a CDRW drive to burn CD's not a CDROM.
If you have a CDRW drive only, you can use these steps:
1. Put the CDROM in the CDRW drive.
2. copy/convert the tracks you want from .cda to .wav on your hard disk.
3. copy/convert the tracks from .wav on your hard disk to a CDR
disk as .cda files in your CDRW drive using almost any burner software.
Usually every CDRW drive is shipped with software to do this.
If you need more details, then I need to know model
numbers and specifics on your computer hardware.

I've heard a lot about some music notation software called 'Igor Engraver'. However, I believe it is only available for Macs at present. Could anyone tell me when a version for PCs will become available?

Splitting long live track up with no gap
I am going to a concert and will be taking ym minidisc player. I want to put the recording onto my PC, but split the concert up into tracks with no pause between, a bit like the MTV unplugged CDs. Does anybody have any tips how to do this ?
Thanks
Nick
Re: Splitting long live track up with no gap
Record all your tracks onto your computer in seperate WAV files then burn them to disc using "Disc at Once" this will give you a continous CD with no gaps.
Take a look at this What is DAO

The software you need is PlayJ Studio
You can't copy the songs or convert them, you can only listen to them in PlayJ but that's why there are so many good plj songs for free!
