1-finger playback 2 midi???
I have a couple of old keyboards by Casio that let you enter all the notes of a piece, deleting and editing as required, then using a one-(or two-)finger playback key to get the timing right while making a recording. Is there similar software for MIDI; i.e. take an existing MIDI file with notes correct and play them back with correct timing into a new file? I have seen only one such software for PC, Finger Conductor, but couldn't get it to work with my MIDI setup. If this worked with ABC or other simple notation file format, that would be great too. Thanks in advance. /glen
WAV file from PC to Mac
This may not make any sense. I'm not a techie and am even less checked out on music on the net. I've received a couple of files at work that I've tried to send to my Mac at home. The latest one was a WAV file - snowman.wav - PCM,11,025 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono. When I send it home via Exhange email at work, to Outlook Express 4.5 at home, it shows up as a document called something like ms-tnef (I'm at work and may have that file name wrong, but it's close). Does anyone know how I can get that file to play on my Mac at home? I get other files that run on either RealPlayer, or Shockwave, but this one and another (video) I received recently both showed up at home as a .doc. The one new wrinkle in all this is the new machine I have a work is running Win 98 vs 95 at my old machine.
Thanks
Mike
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac (how bout mac to pc?)
I'm having a similar problem, only the other way around. I'm putting windows wave files on a zip disk on my Mac and they're not showing up on my pc...any ideas or suggestions?
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac (how bout mac to pc?)
I need more info to think about this one... are ANY files showing up on your PC from that disk? That is it could be a more general disk format issue. Or are the files showing up but aren't being recognized?

Re: WAV file from PC to Mac (how bout mac to pc?)
I was just going thru' all of your questions.
As I know of for Mac to PC, have you guys put any
extension to it such as .WAV - PC files need this
extension and vice-versa sometimes if you're using an older Mac, In your PC you should save it as .aif file.
Then send it to the MAC.
It,s the, you know PC vs MAC situation.
question :
Did you save the audio file as a wav file from your MAC ?
Did you put any extension (.wav) to it, before transfering to PC ?
About the Zip disk, you definitely cannot use any
MAC formatted zip disk on a PC. Unless, you're
using a PC(IBM formatted zip disk)to make transfer
from MAC to PC. Through my experience, If you're
using a PC formatted zip disk to transfer to a MAC
there's usually some hang-ups along the way. Depending on how big the file is, it is best to
transfer 1 by 1, file by file or safer to put the file in the folder.
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac (how bout mac to pc?)
The standard Mac is using for audio files are AIFF files.
So the best is to use a converter to change from WAV to AIFF if you are using a MAC.
And for the PC: from AIFF to WAV. I guess this should solve at least some of the problems.
Succes.
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac
One thing you might want to try is .ZIP compressing the file first. This might take care of some data garbling that might occur when transferring files from a PC through God-knows-what-server to Mac. Then on your Mac, you can unzip the file using Aladdin Expander or UnZip.
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac
How is this an audio issue? Why would someone consider an Outlook Express issue to be so important as to put it in the Music Software Weekly newsletter? A waste of time...
One solution to your problem is to stop using MS software for your email. Use something simple and mulitplatform like web based email such as Yahoo. You will find that these, although requiring slightly more 'work', are much less buggy and restrictive.
Re: WAV file from PC to Mac
Take a look at this Mac program convert the WAV file.

Logic midi converter to MP3 file?
Anyone know if there is an app that
can convert Logic midi files to MP3?
Who? What? When? Where?
I am looking to buy a CD burner for my teenagers for Christmas. I have absolutely no idea of what I need to look for or any of the "ins and outs." Can some please offer a tutorial or direct me to where I can find information such as "CD Burners for Dummies?"
Thanks!
Re: Who? What? When? Where?
I don't know much about them either, but I just bought one for myself so did a little research. I bought a Yamaha CRW8424EZ for $170. It works great. I assume he wants it to make audio CD's. I have heard that those with SCSI interface are better for audio CD's, but I bought IDE and it works fine. If you go with SCSI, you may have to buy an adapter card for his PC. On the other hand, if his pc is already based on SCSI, that may be the way to go. I would also make sure to either also get a label making kit or get one that come with one. Yamaha also has free technical support (I suppose most of them do, but I had to call them and they were pretty helpful, even though the problem was with my pc, not with their unit).
simple analog soft synth for mac
Hello:
I'm looking for a very simple analog soft synth software package, free/shareware, midi keyboard controlled, subtractive, like the classic Moog approach. for the Mac. Maybe just 1 or 2 oscillators, VCF, VCA. More of a teaching device, rather than a pro or semi-pro music synth. Most of what I've found is for Win or is too large for my computer. I have a PowerMac 4400/200 with 48MB RAM. If you can help, please reply to my email with a link to download some program(s) I could try out. MANY THANKS.

soft synth-look on this sights shareware offerings before you as
If your java savy go to softsynth.com and download cecilia.otherwise try looking at this particular sights synth selection before you ask a question.Oh and by the way your computer is obsolete. for around $200 you could get a g3 upgrade and more memory.then you could check out bitheadz analog synth or even proppellerheads reason.
My midi left town! Cubase Score V3.05
I use Cubase Score and a Korg is40 input keyboard and can't input midi anymore to Cubase. I do have midi output from the Korg as I ran it into another midi device, a Roland RA50 and it works just fine. I have checked for IRQ conflicts and found none. What I am wondering is if my sound card has gone into midi cardiac arrest? All the Cubase ins and outs appear to be properly set and I can play midi files ok on Cubase--It's just the inability to input which is frustrating. Any ideas how I can check my Sound card for midi operation? It is a Crystal FM Synthesis card that came with the IBM Aptiva. I have re-installed Cubase and the drivers from Crystal and still no luck.
Help please, thanks in advance.

Audiowerk2 together with Yamaha soundcard
I've installed an Audiowerk2 together with an Yamaha soundcard in my Windows PC. I'm using WIndows ME. So i downloaded the latest drivers for the Audiowerk. I also installed Logic Audio Composer which is shipped with the audiowerk. Then if i launch the program i get an error message, which is: cannot access the audiocard (audiowerk). Is this a problem which occur when installed multiple soundcards, or is this a windows me problem? I hope i'm clear enough. So, can anyone help me?
Re: Audiowerk2 together with Yamaha soundcard
This may be bad advice, but id say check out e-magics website. Its very informative and has info about compatability issues.

Software, PC for new user ?
I am very interested in the Music industry & creating
Computer Aided music, but have a few questions as a new
user to this subject:
I am in the process of building my own PC running Win98
as a platform: AMD 800MHz, 128Mb Ram, but not sure what
soundcard to purchase. I have been considering the Soundblaster
Live! Platinum card, is this card suitable for the job ?
I have been looking through the countless, very helpful
pages of the Hitsquad.com website, but I am only getting
confused as to the software to try/buy for beginners in
this field of industry.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Simon Slater

Re: Software, PC for new user ?
I've got SB Live value and I think it's very good but I'm selling it to a friend to buy the Platinum series for the Live Driver or interface.I have Cakewalk Pro audio 9 . I just hope it's going to be better.
Re: Software, PC for new user ?
I have a SoundBlaster Live (value edition) and it's the best purchase I've ever made! Platinum would be higher quality but for a higher price.
As for software - check out my own music program (Midget). A Windows version will be released in the future, but for now, I'm afraid it's limited to DOS.
If you reply, please email me your reponse as I will not be checking this board often.
Re: Software, PC for new user ?
well simon you pay for quality. There is a noticable difference in sound quality for i/o intefaces preamps etc.as far as just a soundcard id figure out what kind of software i want first , then see what soundcards/interfaces are compatible. If its asio compatible it should be all good.Check out steinberg, or emagics websites for their products. Also at harmony central theres a link to all themajor pro audio mags.have a look around and make an educated desicion.for an unbeatable price check out bayview pro audio.

Newer theory software
I would like to find out what is appealing, challenging and new in music theory software for some bright young piano/voice/sax/students. Please suggest sites that I might look into for students whose ages are 9-17---and academically, the creme of the crop. Thanking you for your theory software suggestions-- in advance. I'm glad to find this site, and hopefully there are others. Judith Lynne
Windows 2000 compatibility
Does anyone know of and program to record LP's to CD that is windows compatible?
Use of Sound Samples
I often see '200 free sound samples' advertised with music PC magazines/CD's. What are these? What are the benefits of using these, and how does one use them?
Any assistance with this will be appreciated.
Re: Use of Sound Samples
Theyre for use with sampler synths. you put the soun in the sampler and play it on your keyboard or other midi device.the unity ds-1 is a good sampler synth to check out(theres a free demo)
PC Audio Sound Quality
I have a IBM Compatible PC with a Celeron 400mhx 'CPU'; 128mb PC133 RAM, Digiman soundcard, and use Band-in-a-Box9/Powertracks6 to produce my musical compositions (midi's and audio)and backing files.
I am finding that the output sound quality still lacks when it comes to instrument sounds, even when using Rolands VSC88.
How do I get a more genuine instrument sound/audio output? Does this have something to do with getting a sound module and studio monitor speakers?
